Practice with all your gear on

When dry firing recently, I relearned why it is important to wear all my stuff. I was practicing my draws without any magazines in mag pouches. When I put the magazines in to practice reloads, my weak hand kept hitting the mags during the draw while moving to my stomach. I had to go back and re-work the draw to keep that from happening.

I think it helps with building overall skills by practicing with full gear. All of my instructors suggested the same thing during my classes. As such, I have become way more comfortable and familiar with the placement of my holster and magazines.

Always practice as if it were the real thing.As you found out it will help to keep you from developing bad habits. Plus the more familiar and comfortable you are with your equipment the better you'll feel when competing.

It might not be necessary, but to build an automatic response it helps to run it exactly like you would in a match.
