jar
The .40 caliber rule is there to keep Limited from being an arms race to see who can make the tiniest diameter case that makes major. I really don't want to see 26 round Limited guns in .30 carbine. There's still a 0.354 minimum overall. I'm not saying the rules should be changed and make everyone buy new guns, but the arms race would still have a stopping point. Now you've got me thinking about what craziness we'd see if you dropped the 0.354 requirement for Open.

Round_Gun_Shooter
My carry gun is chambered for 357SIG. I shoot L10 and other divisions with it and although much of my ammo makes major, I declare minor and always have. Shooter in this case made a mistake as did the Chrono staff. Hopefully all have learned the rules since the match

Seriously, I don't think we want to start off down this path. Will we someday play with lasers? maybe electron pulse guns. burn a hole in paper, tone it down so the steel falls instead of getting a hole melted throu, but for now, 9mm is the lower size for all rounds, and 10mm is the lower size for major in all but Revo and Open. We have a successful sport here, let us not screw it up. No one needs another arms race. Right now the big thing is can I get 20 or 21 in a mag, open up to 9mm and we effectively turn all the .40 guns to expensive paper weights. Think not? how many people shoot Limited with a .45? You joke, but they used to really do this at the Masters at PASA on the long range event when they were shooting rifle rounds out of their XP100's. Did you miss the part where I said "I'm not saying the rules should be changed and make everyone buy new guns"? I just think it's an interesting theoretical question. How low in diameter can you go and still make major while not making the length too long for a usable grip?
Schutzenmeister
all that is required for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing, Was this a USPSA or IPSC ? Doesnt IPSC allow 357 sig for major if the shooter is from a place that has some legal restrictions on 40 ? If this was USPSA the rest of the shooters on the squad that witnessed it are just as guilty as the chrono guy for letting someone get an improper score, 1 - Yes ... .357 Sig IS allowable as major in IPSC Standard Division. 2 - No ... .357 Sig CANNOT be scored major in anything except Open or (theoretically) Revolver Divisions for USPSA. (I say "theoretically" for Revolver as I am not personally aware of any revolvers chambered for this round. Bottle-necked cases tend not to play nice in wheel guns, as I understand.) Both responses based on the respecitve rulebooks.

SethML3602
I just have to say. I didn't know that this rule exsisted because i haven't actually read the rulebook to it's fullest extent(am reading now). I have learned so much from this forum and reading the rules people bring up. I had no idea that there was a Minimum bullet cal for certain classes. Anyways back to the rule and what i would have done. I just wanted to put in that my reaction(Since i now know the rule) would have been to tell the chrono they were wrong whilst i was getting out my Smartphone going to my AdobeReader and open my rules PDF. Scroll down to the limited10 section and hold it in the chrono's face. If it still didn't get changed then me being me i would have told him to call the RM or MD. However i wouldn't have gone as far as to leave the match. Just so you all know you can get the rules on a PDF and put it on your cellphone if it is a smartphone. Anyone who doesn't know how/where to get it PM me and i can walk you through it. it is great having the rules no matter where i go.

I keep a copy of the current rule book in my range bang. Low tech? For sure ... But it works! (And it dosen't even require batteries! - LOL)
Anopsis
I tried this "paper" version you speak of, but I couldn't figure out how to do a search. Just kidding, I have both the electronic version AND the hardcopy stays in my range bag. Trying to find anything on my tiny iPhone screen, and in bright sunlight, makes the paper copy that much more valuable.
