Joe4d Posted March 31, 2011 Share Posted March 31, 2011 For limited USPSA get a blued 6" bushing barrel eagle .40, add a dawson fiber front and mag funnel and shoot it a year or so then get the slide lightened. Nothing a 5" gun can do that a 6" gun cant do better and nothing a 6" gun can't do that a 5" gun can. Except be legal in IDPA ESP. lumpygravy Posted March 31, 2011 Share Posted March 31, 2011 I was in a similar situation except I already have a 5" shorty. I wanted a 5" LDC but was also curious about a 6" too. The most common recommendation is to find someone with what you don't have and ask them to try it. Being generally good Joes, most shooters will be glad to let you test fire their blasters. I don't know anyone at my range with a 6" much less ever seen one so I decided to get two top ends for a LDC frame. If you have the means, two top ends for the same frame may be an option. You get two guns for the price of one and one half. Sure, you can't shoot both at the same time, but I think there's a rule about that... I suspect I will settle on one top end and worst case, sell the other. If the only decision is 5" or 6", I don't think you can make a bad choice. Wild Gene Posted April 1, 2011 Share Posted April 1, 2011 The biggest plus for a 6" gun is, at least for me, that it is much easier for my "over 40 eyes" to pick up the front sight, and to be able to focus on it. I can pick up and focus on the black front sight of a 6" gun much quicker than a red F/O on the front of a 5" gun. The younger guys run the 5" guns very well, you will notice the older guys will run the 6" more often (seems like anyway). Technically, the 5" is quicker back on target than a 6" gun (very true with the SAA revolvers). The longer sight radius is a plus on longer shots, IMHO. There are a few threads about this. EkuJustice Posted April 1, 2011 Share Posted April 1, 2011 If your going to get a 6inch,get the slide lightened from the get go. The factory weight 6inch just has alot of weight in the nose going back and forth and thends to whip around more. Why practice for a year with a gun then change it and have to relearn the feel. Shot a 6 inch and a 5inch before buying and went with the 6inch and had it lightened. On distance the 6inch does help for me at least.
