USMA CWT Houghton Memorial 2-Gun Challenge, 4/22-23

Recommended Posts

The USMA Combat Weapons Team (CWT) is proud to announce that the 4th Annual Houghton Memorial 2-Gun Challenge will be held at West Point on April 22-23, 2011 (Friday & Saturday, 1 day format, Pistol/Rifle). For information on Captain Andrew Houghton and his charitable foundation, please visit www(dot)andyhoughton(dot)org. For information on the CWT, please visit www(dot)combatweaponsteam(dot)com.

Details on the Match and registration will be posted in early February as we finalize range arrangements. What you can expect is another challenging competition that will test shooter and equipment, as well as a monster prize table for all competitors. This year we will be offering a Night Vision Shooting Course on Friday evening (training fee required, open to US citizens only), which will offer participants a unique opportunity to zero their rifles with PEQ-15 ATPIAL IR laser designators and shoot them with PVS-14 Night Vision Devices.

The Match and Night Vision Shooting Course are fundraising events for the CWT, and we appreciate any and all the support we can get. Thank you for your interest in the Match!

Looking forward to this match and the night training.

By the way, what does the "Leios Akribos Tachus" on your Combat Weapons Team insignia stand for?

Latin translators fail to decode these words.

Thanks.

Looks Greek to me (Ha Ha)

Here is what I found.

Leios = Smooth

Akribos = Diligently

Tachus = Swiftly

Maybe one of the CWT guys can clarify. Mal

Should be in the $125 range, this match is a fund raiser for the CWT so you happily write the check. Crying over the ammo is still acceptable. ;)

But only if they are tears of joy :cheers:

CWT USMA and I have been volunteers for the CWT 11 years and counting now (I can't believe its been that long!), and I can tell you that your contributions from shooting this phenomenal match will go towards an OUTSTANDING group of young soldiers who are truly the finest that the academy has to offer. The seeds sown now will pay dividends when you have actual shooters that understand progressive firearms training sitting on the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

But don't get me started because I can go on and on about why this team matters. ANYWAYS, the match rules have been updated on the team website (www dot combatweaponsteam dot com) and we will be posting the Registration form and Waivers for the general public this Friday.

Thanks for the interest in our match!!!

Today is Saturday 2/19/2011 and I was wondering if I missed the application being posted on the CWT site.

Was informed it would go up on Friday 2/18/2011 but don't see it. Any updates?

Teemch5

Teemch5,

Sorry for the delay.

:blush:

We submitted the forms for uploaded, but I just found out Friday that updating the team website is in the hands of the IT personnel at West Point, and not in the hands of our PAO cadet. Since it didn't make it up on Friday, it'll probably be Tuesday before our team website is updated by the IT office. I'll be updating this thread as well as starting a new thread on Arfcom shortly with links to the required registration forms and waivers...

Just checked the website and did not find the application, so I went to the Brian Enos forum and found the links for the applications and waivers.

I was able to open them up. I'll download them and and get them out first thing Monday AM.

I think I know the answer to my next question but is the fee for the night vision part an additional $150.00 on top of the $125.00 entry fee? My gut tells me it is but I thought I would ask anyway. So if I wanted to do both and get a t-shirt my total cost will be $295.00, correct?

Thanks and I'll see you there....Teemch5

teemch5,

That is correct- not cheap, but for a great cause and you'll get your money's worth out of it. The Night Vision Shoot will be a very memorable experience that is going to be led by a subject matter expert that does nothing but teach this class to military units throughout the country. You'll get a basic primer on the equipment that you see in all the photos of our soldiers, followed by a class on zero, followed by making lots of noise and brass in the dark at steel targets at varying distances out to 200+ yards. You haven't experienced the leading edge of small arms technology until you've laid an M4 across your LAP while sitting cross-legged in the dark, and dumped round after round of 5.56mm on an IPSC steel target at 200 yds while enjoying the halo of sparks erupting off the surface of the steel through your PVS-14s. You'll also get to see some IR toys that are NOT usually seen on the news pictures, but will wow you with what is being used on today's battlefield.

Hope to see you there!

:D

What time does the night shoot commence on Friday? I want to know how much work I need to miss. Looking forward to attending.

We'll have the exact times listed as the date approaches, but the safest bet would be to have your evening plans cleared out starting around 6pm.
