Of course, that rifle now has a Leupold Prismatic on it. Which by the way, crushed an Eotech yesterday when shooting drills at plates. The clarity of the Pris was far superior to that of the Eotech and made hitting the plates much easier.

Thanks for the globe sight and bullet info. I have been looking at the Prismatic for some time and the only thing holding me back is the 4 MOA dot. I was hoping to see one introduced with a 2 MOA dot in the circle plex. Is there any chance one will be introduced or at least as a custom shop option? If yours is a 4 MOA do you find it to be a hindrance at 250+ yards?

Thank you

I'm not running the Turkey Plex reticle which leaves a lot to be desired. I am running a circle dot reticle which I believe is available from the Custom Shop.

I think there is some pressure to improve the reticle in the Pris. I should have more info after the SHOT show.

Awesome, Is it the standard Circle Dot? Please keep us posted, have fun at SHOT and if you ever want to sell yours......

I called Leupold and they told me that it was not possible to get any other reticle in the 1x14. I have seen other reticles offered, so it makes me wonder how knowledgeable the CS fellow I spoke with is. This optic looks like fun, it is too bad that it is not available with just a 1.5 MOA dot, and if it is I wish they would sell me one.

thanks for all the info of rifle setups. I have a 16inch barrel so i think i will be getting the JP bolt on gas block to put on end of rifle to increase my sight radius. Any recommendations on front sights that will bolt to the picatinny rail on the JP bolt on gas block?

The JP A2 style front sight or the Armalite A2 style front sight would both be good choices fitted on the clamp-on sight block from JP.

The JP one-piece clamp-on in the link above is also a good choice but does have the drawback of not being easily removable if you want to put optics on it once in a while. Loosening it up and rotating it would be a loser because you would have to re-establish adjustment every time you do that.

BTW, the JP clamp-on sight "base" is just that, a sight mounting block only, not a gas block (as pictured above on my rifle).

This is a great thread! I'm in the same boat with arsoncop9. I have a 16" VTAC upper that I would like to equip with iron sights and was considering mounting the JP one-piece clamp on front sight to get a longer sight radius until I read about the clamp on sight base. My question is, if I go with the sight base, can I mount a flip up f/s onto the sight base? I plan on installing a flip up rear as well because I eventually want to run an optic / scope on it one day.

Yes as long as the sight was designed to clamp onto picatinny rail you are good to go.

Is this the part you are referring to?

And, yes, you must have facial hair to shoot irons.

Facial hair allows the shooter to build a consistent check or spot weld. Any facial hair will do: the goatee, the Piatt (which will make you more accurate), closely followed by the Puente or even the pornstache.

Robby Johnson never won a Nationals with irons as he has no facial hair. You cannot get there on mere talent alone.

Yes Kelly I agree with the facial hair being a must for a proper cheek weld. I prefer the gotee with two week old unshaven sides for a light, full, cush to the weld. This is why we Iron shooters stay away from adjustable stocks as the interface between the two sections tends to catch facial hairs and pull them out...ouch !! :D
