  1. Neomet..great link; Thanks! Any chance you have pictures of both sides of the pistol that you could post? Did you take the rear stipling off also? Thanks again!
  2. I would like to gather as much information and advice on creating the custom molded grip that I have seen on a number of pistols on this site, Henning's included. If you can list the specific materials you used and instructions on how you did your grip, or would do it differently now that you have done one, that would be great. I would like to see pictures also. Currently I have transferred the wood grips from my Limited to my Gold Team because they provide more area for my left hand palm to get ahold of. My current aluminum grips are covered in grip tape but are too thin to allow a good two handed grip. Thanks in advance for the assistance. Finally updated my Avatar
  3. Here is the English language version of the page above: http://www.tanfoglio.it/catalogo.php?tipologia=1&id=28. I tried to order but you have to have an account. So I gave them my email address and they are supposed to email me a password. We will see what happens. Great job on finding this and whoever the Eric guy is, he sure has a fancy shirt I like the grip job you did. I am going to start a new thread to get pictures, advice and specific materials used to get the grip done. I have looked at Henning's and I just want more info before I mess with $125 worth of grips.
  4. Ryan coated both the mag well and the optic mount on the Avatar gun pictured!
  5. Well, I guess I was wrong. I went there looking for a Limited as I know they are a bit scarce. I should have read the post a little more carefully
  6. Excellent! Looking forward to seeing the outcome of the experiment. I am about ready to do the molding on the aluminum grips like Henning shows in the video. However, I don't want to cover it with grip tape and I just need to find a material (paint) that I can spray on and add aluminum oxide sand to in order to make my own non slip "grip tape".
  7. Only saw one Elite Match and it was in 45 ACP. All the others appear to be Witness Match pistols, but not Witness Elite Match but thanks for the lead anyway.
  8. I would definitely take at least one.....as long as they come in XL Petite
  9. Well I don't want to break the Irish Whiskey thread so I will note that I do enjoy an occasional Irish Whisky and Bushmill's or Jameson's are both tasty to me. So is there a favorite Scotch thread since I want to put in my votes for Dewars and Famous Grouse. Happy Safe Holidays to all the members of this great forum and especially to Brian for being such a great host
  10. Well I am probably the guy who took it from 4 to 3 and mine arrived Tuesday Although can see my Avatar is still my IonBond STI (sold my SVI to fund the Open Tanfo). It shoots very well but, my hands like the Tanfo better so now i have a set My thanks to Henning for spending time with my son at Area 3 and providing information on the Tanfo load (2006 V8). I am still playing with the grip on the open gun but the wooden grips on the Limited are not bad and I may try modifying them. Only problem is getting the SuperComp brass to feed well in my 650. Using a 223 shell plate but it is having trouble hitting the primer hole (indexing). I may need to clean and readjust the primer feeder system. As long as I have an opportunity to practice (i.e. enough ammo), I will shoot this next weekend in KC (hope to see you there Leo). Just dry firing now to get the feel of the gun, holster and sight allignment. The gun fed 38 Super just fine. I am sure it holds more and functions even better with Supercomp. 7.4 grains is what it took for my load with 125 zero and WSR primer. One last note to thank Henning for providing a great website along with helpful videos and great practical advice Good luck in Area 2!!
  11. Could someone please post pictures of an Ion Bonded gun after it has been drawn out of a kydex holster a thousand times. I don't think a Ghost or CR Speed holster will give you what you want. My XD has not been done yet, but it is in line for the coating. When that gets done and I go back to working production I would be glad to. I would imagine someone has a production gun that has the DLC finish on it that can show you if there is any wear.
  12. The Accu-rails were not coated on the advice of George at EGW who did the Comp install and fitting to the slide. Quote from George: "I would not do the rails, it may make them brittle. ??" I truly do not remember if I asked Ryan, although I thought I had. I imagine I can get a new set of rails done at any time. I am no gunsmith but I thought the rails were meant to wear and then be replaced. BTW, the rails were already on the gun when I got it. I would still ask Ryan the question since it couldn't hurt.
  13. Hey, that gun looks nice! Matt...and I bet it looks very familiar. Yes it is a nice gun and he takes good care of his toys, but it is time to get it DIRTY!
  14. Can this finish be applied to a new gun? Or do you have to wait to get your gun broken in like you do for chrome. You could probably put it on a new gun, but it would be better for it to broken in a bit beforehand. I believe G-ManBart is correct. Although the coating is very thin, even thinner than a classic hardcrhome coating, it is going to add thousanths to the entire frame and slide. But the man to ask that question to is Ryan Flynn at IonBond. He is a gunsmith and knows his products! You can email him r.flynn@us.ionbond.com or call him althouggh I don't have the number handy I know it is in the Ionbond posts somewhere near the beginning. Good luck!
  15. So I had to try it since I must have had the same idea. It is pretty darn close. If the CZ grips were wider, they would make it. The contour and design of the CZ look better. The hollow middle of the Tanfo does not make much sense even with grip tape inside of it. I have some Henning prescribed work to do. I have to get this Avatar changed!!!
  16. KSmoker and I sent our dissassembled pistols in to Ryan at IonBond. Ryan turned them in less than three weeks (would have been two, but a machine broke down). I just wanted to share the before, during and after of my pistol with those who will be getting work done there. Two pictures of the original pistol: The original used pistol I bought had Comp problems (too loose on the barrel) so the comp was replaced by EGW (yeah I know its big ) and this is part of what went to Ryan. Reassembled (thanks KSmoker!) with new grip after finishing. Small parts were mostly bead blasted stainless, but comp was done in the silver finish everything else in Black including scope mount and mag well: I still need to replace the Ice mag well insert and put the thumb rest back on but other than that it's ready to go. I think he did a GREAT job and I am very happy with it. I need to make it my new Avatar. I assume KSmoker will post his when it gets reassembled. Thanks Ryan!!
  17. Pictures from AlamoShooter of the gripsafety recontour he had done. Very nice work.
  18. Thanks GMan and AlamoShooter (Pm'd with email address for photo). I will try to work around the disabling, but if that is the only solution, I will do it. I think sensitizing will do it. My hand is on it, but not fully compressed.
  19. Good Point Maybe a wide one like the one above would help. That and sensitize the grip safety. Thanks
  20. how about making your thumb safety wide enough check the link below by Jojo Vidanes of JV Dynamics the patron saint of Norco Don't know if that will help my small hands keep that grip safety in. It has to be ALL the way in to function. I may try to sensitize it, but I believe I would like to give the low safety a try if it will fit and fuction in Ambi mode. BTW...Nice looking pistol in the picture.
  21. I am trying to make the move from my XD in production division to my SV in open division but I am experiencing a problem. I have trouble riding the "normal hieight" safety on my 2011 and holding the grip safety in "consistently". I need to get my hand lower and I believe that the Gunsite low mount thumb safety will help me. (tried one on a friends 1911 and it was sweet) I do not know if it will work on my SV2011 frame or if it will still allow the right side of the ambi safety to function. Does anyone have experience with this? I have seen grip safeties pinned, although I doubt it is legal in any division in USPSA. It is already a memory grove safety, but not a real big one bump. I would rather fix the thumb safety which will allow me to keep contact with the grip safety as long as it will work in the pistol. Thanks in advance
  22. Thanks Boz for providing the information on Mobil One.
  23. I use SG (SH Light in the winter) and FP10. However, I would like to know what viscosity of Mobile 1 is being used by the folks who say they use it. Thanks!
