  1. I am mostly with Jeff; although I think 2 pistols would be the way to go. A 22 pistol for practicing. The gun is cheap and the ammunition is even cheaper. I would recommend a semi-auto pistol by S&W, Ruger or Walther can be found for less than $250. For home defense I have no problem with a revolver. However, you could get a Glock 17, or an XD in 9 or 40 or an M&P in 9 or 40 and this would work for competition and home defense. IMHO you want a simple gun with a full trigger pull for home defense. 1911s are great guns, but unless you shoot them often, cocked and locked can be a dangerous way to go. All that for $.02!
  2. Just send me one of the new FO's when they are done and hit my credit card! My $.02 on the magwell..delrin insert is GREAT! As far as big, IMHO the most important thing is that it provides a shelf for the bottom of the hand that rather locks the gun in place like an STI with an ICE magwell. Yes, big is what we want, but the current one is fairly easy to hit, it just does not supply a "shelf" and if you miss the hole like I do it beats up the feed lips! H141 pads ROCK! Very nice to know I CAN load 22 rounds in the gun to start. No, I don't always load it full. Some stages just don't need it, but with 20 loaded it is easily reloadable and sometimes that is very nice. I have not tried to reload with 21 just because the error factor of not seating it fully does not offset the extra shot I might get if I do it right. But that is just me. Keep up the great work and I hope to see you at Area 3!
  3. Well done But I think you may end up paying for this one next week
  4. Well, I did not hear from EAA, BUT a front sight arrived in the mail today from the EAA Custom Shop which is the area that handles Warranty items. I know when I talked to them and had to give them the SN that they commented that it was only sold by them in July, to which I responded, "Yes, as I said it is brand new!". So, I thank you EAA for standing behind the pistol!
  5. John, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you I mounted the FO after I thinned it with a file then sent backup FO to you guys only to have the USPS run a destructive test on the envelope and contents which as we know failed I am still trying to locate a solid one to replace it with. See you guys soon for an Omaha road trip Tom
  6. Looking to purchase a front sight for my Tanfo Limited (as the original fell off). I would like to pay with paypal so I can get it coming as soon as possible. Please let me know what you have and what you want. I surely need a new post but I may also take a Fiber Optic. Thanks!
  7. And that is one of the major reasons that I truly enjoy this sport, great people!
  8. It's that tiny little screw that works itself loose in recoil. Red Lock Tight will fix it. I might as well tell you this one too while we're at it to save you some grief later: Drop a little blob of silicon caulking material on a piece of wax paper and let it dry. Once dry, trim off a small slice wit a razor blade or exact-o knife to place UNDER the blade of your rear sight so that when the sight is correctly adjusted for elevation, it is compressing the silicon in addition to the spring. The silicon will provide a nice cushioning "damper" effect which will help prevent the screw from walking its way out in recoil and getting lost. 'Alternatively, you can use a thin slice of vacuum hose if you have any kicking around. This works well since the elevation screw goes right through it and keeps it in place. The other thing you might want to do (strongly recommend) is go ahead and Lock Tight the elevation screw down also, once you have the elevation set for your load of course. Just count the clicks. Red Lock Tight for front and rear sight screws; blue Lock Tight on the grip screws. Another trick: Take out the roll pin for your ambi-safety and give it a single, light tap with the edge of a small hammer right in the middle of the shank. This will bulge the pin there very slightly so that when you tap it back into place it will never work its way out and get lost on its own. Thanks for all the tips and advice !
  9. You guys are great! I am trying to reach Henning to get a replacement on the way. As always...thanks! Hell, you guys just thinned that one two weeks ago when the pistol came in.
  10. Thanks for the offer. I have already installed the Factory FO that came with it but I want to shoot with the post front. I wonder why they will not handle this under warranty. It is clearly a factory defect of some type: either no screw, loose screw, undersized sight, oversized slot (it is not), etc. I just cannot believe that with under 200 rounds through the gun, it fell off. My original gun has well over 6000 rounds through it and it has never had a problem. At any rate, I am contacting Henning this morning to see if he has one in stock!
  11. Since my main Tanfo is off being Ionbonded after being handily cut and customized by the KC Boys , I was lucky enough to pick up a backup so I could shoot this past weekend and to get ready for Area 3. This gun had less than 200 rounds through it and in the middle of a crazy 39 round (not my design!) stage I could not find my front sight on the next array.....it was gone My first Limited took a strong piece of plastic and a hammer to drive the sight out of the channel AFTER I removed the screw. I cannot believe this one fell off after less than 200 rounds and of course is gone in the grass (and it had already been trimmed to .100 by KCBs). So I shot the last stage with my son's borrowed Bedell Limited (very nice). If you have bought a Limited lately, you may want to check it! Now I need to scramble to get a sight and hopefully get it thinned down. If not I will have to go with the FO factory sight. BTW-I just emailed EAA to see if this is covered under warranty. I will follow up with a phone call. I will let you know what I find out.
  12. Jeff, I am Glad to see you got everything up and running. Do you like the Aimpoint? It does get some getting used to. Tom
  13. I am pretty sure that the people that say it was a bad piece of brass are correct. It should not have blown with good brass. As Leo said, it is a BRAND NEW gun. One thing I do know for sure, it was not an overcharged load. I was loading one load at a time. I was not in the "mind dead" mode of "place bullet, pull handle". I was carefully watching every load and checking everyone for OAL. Plus I use a precision bullet seating die and it works very well. Thanks again for all the input.
  14. Howard- thanks for the additional information. Jim-Chrono Avgs 4.1=855 4.2=872 4.3=skipped 4.4=904 4.5=925-second round blew
  15. 180 grain? Sierra manual shows 5.0 as a max clays charge at 1.125 OAL with a 180 jhp. It also shows 4.6 as the accuracy load. Yes, 180 grain Montana Gold CMJ. I was not aware that Sierra had this listed up to that charge level. I did not get to 4.6 and now I lack the conviction (courage) to work on getting it to that level. I am going to try N320 first and then perhaps one more powder. If I cannot get happy with anything else I will return to TG. It is HOT but it works well and I have no bad experiences with it. I load it to 1.18OAL with the same bullet. Thanks for the info.
  16. Howard, I can do an OAL of 1.215 and still turn the round freely in the barrel. No, I do not screen for FC headstamps. Is this Federal Cartridge brass? I wish I could tell you what was in the gun when it went boom, but there is not trace of the base anywhere. I truly believe that a number of shooters use Clays in 40 major and it works well for them. I have had a case seperation before, but never an explosive one like this! I guess I should have checked what brass I was shooting on these. I'm just a "once bitten" kind of guy and I don't believe I have the confidence to continue down the Clays road. I did not post it to tell everyone to stay away from Clays. I posted it so that the "database" of Clays experience included this head seperation. I only wish I knew what brass it was. Your input is always welcome and appreciated! I just tried a dummy round loaded to 1.22 OAL. It fits in the mag, feeds and ejects. With the barrel out I can insert it all the way and it still turns freely. Man, that is a long round!
  17. Sparky, Thanks for the input! I may end up checking it out.
  18. Thanks! I would LOVE to try VV N320, but everyone is always sold out. Where do you get it on a consistent basis? Ordering it as we speak! It appears you just have to keep the stuff on your shelf to make it through the tough times. Thanks. Ill stick with clays... a head separation can happen with anything when using once fired brass. I have shot 8k plus rounds of clays 4.6gr 1.70 small rifle primers without one head separation. Now Brice had one with some speer brass.. I usually use aguila or federal brass most of the time. I didn't like the feel of N320 in the Tanfoglio frame. But I am glad you are okay. they can be pretty traumatic when they do happen. Leo Leo, I appreciate your concern and I am also glad the gun and I are okay. I think you typed your load data too quickly. 1.70 OAL cannot be correct. 357 Magnum rounds are not that long. Josh will load some test rounds for me. I think N320 could be the powder for me. Tom
  19. Thanks! I would LOVE to try VV N320, but everyone is always sold out. Where do you get it on a consistent basis? Ordering it as we speak! It appears you just have to keep the stuff on your shelf to make it through the tough times. Thanks.
  20. Thanks! I would LOVE to try VV N320, but everyone is always sold out. Where do you get it on a consistent basis? edited after checking Powder Valley Looks like Powder Valley has it back in stock and I am ordering some now!
  21. I tried to get switched over from Titegroup to Clays in my 40 Tanfoglio. I loaded to 1.2 OAL and worked it up from 4.1 to 4.5. At 4.5 I had an explosive case seperation ! I am glad I had my glasses on! I actually thought I had blown up a gun for a moment. But, it was only the case blowing out. I measured every case length and charge as I worked up to 4.5. I had one load hit major (165.4) before the blown case. It definitely left an impression on me and I believe I am going to stay with titegroup. I do not like the heat that Titegroup produces and I was looking for a softer recoil impulse but I think I will stay with Titegroup and not wander down the slippery slope of Clays. I know it works well for a number of shooters and a few gave me input on how to work my loads up (watching for pressure problems) and the minimum OAL of 1.2. I just felt that I needed to post this so that there is some other perspective on Clays and 40 Major. And yes, I know it is not recommended by the manufacturer to load it in 40 to Major PF. Here are some pictures:
  22. Definitely going to RO the Open/L10 Nats and I may do a walk on the the Limited/Production/Revolver Nats. If not, I will still be at both of them, just not shooting My shooting is not the good, but I do excel at beer and lies
  23. John, You are amazing! It looks awesome I knew you would save my Baby Now I just have to learn to Shoot Thanks to Leo, Josh and of course you who sweated over this potential travesty. Josh said he knew you would be able to salvage it. You did much better than salvage it! I still cannot believe that all of those holes do not lighten it as much as Leo's or Henning's. I believe it is time for a trip to IonBond Thanks again for all the hours of work, both thinking, planning and machining
