  1. Try 4.3gns of 231 with the 125's. Makes minor OK and its easy on the shooter.
  2. Looks nice. When you say they do the job Okay, are you saying there is something better for a wheelgun? TIA, Ted Well Ted.... I don't think that you will buy a better made or more reliable sight than the Aristocrat.... but one that had a moving target style adjustable front sight would be the "BEST".
  3. I have the Aristocrat TS6 on my S&W Model 10 - it is basically a slab sided 1" Douglas barrelled PPC revolver. I have several of these - they do the job OK.
  4. I started shooting AP back in the late 80's with a 586, got to Master grade in a little while, then lost interest a bit..... sold the gun and concentrated on PPC (revolver) style shooting. Last year I got an itch to shoot some AP and bought a full-house semi auto. After shooting one regional match and the WORLD championships with the semi-auto, I formed the opinion that the Open division was pretty much a semi-auto game. I was pleased, and felt that my decision to buy the SA was the right one. Since then I have shot another 2 matches and am now a High Master. The 2007 rule changes (back to the way things used to be), have given the SA an edge in the plate match and on the mover, arguably the most unforgiving matches. The Revolver is still a better thing in the Practical (more forgiving) and there is no clear difference in the Barricade match. So for me.. the SA wins out overall for Open. In metallic I still shoot a revolver - because it is a different style of game. Oh... semi-autos can be a bit more finicky... and the damn mag release can be an annoyance at the most inopportune times... but they enjoy an edge in the game at the moment. The over-riding consideration in all of this is the matter of shooter skill..... now what was that saying "it's the singer, not the song !"
  5. I agree.... try 5.0 gns of WW231 over the 115gn XTP or Sierra 115gn HP. Always a very accurate combination. Load to an OAL of 1.210" and reliability is assured. 90 grainers are not renowned for being "tacks" !
  6. I get it in both elbows every so often, seems more prevalent in leadups to big matches (naturally !) Treatment is 5 minutes of stretching with palm up agains a wall, then 5 minutes with the back of palm up against a wall. I do that every 4 hours and ice for 20 minutes twice a day. I also do similar exercises as mentioned in earlier posts every day - but only after stretching. When it is real bad... three days before the match I start on 150mg diclofenac potassium (VOLTAREN) and the day of the match I start to taper back by 75mg, the day after is the same and then I leave 'em alone. The last bout lasted 12 monts, with 3 months of real soreness - but then I never stopped shooting either. The band will help reduce the pain some, but won't help fix anything..... just like the NSAID's. The long thin needle is a last resort - it don't last long enough. I did try some accupuncture and accupressure massage and got good relief from both. Just my .02 cents.
  7. To stop the galling dead in its tracks, try some RIG +P gun grease. My Scoremaster was doin' the same thing, even BreakFree seemed not to help. Got some RIG from Security Equipment Corp in Honolulu and it all stopped !
  8. To get an even nicer trigger pull - buy a Wolff Reduced Power "Ribbed" mainspring and put it in. I have used them in every S&W revolver I have owned over the past 20 years - without fail.
  9. Never a truer sentence rattled off a keyboard - And there endeth the lesson.
  10. The Manhurin revolvers share a lot with the S&W's, holsters and speedloaders especially. Straight from the box the actions are like a tuned S&W, they are VERY accurate, have good sights and an excellent metallurgical pedigree - but they are expensive and parts can be a bitch to get. For me.... S&W rules in the revolver stakes. Fashion can go out of style but quality never does.
  11. I have found that 4.2gns of WST with a 125gn lead projectile work OK in the G34. You can go up to 4.5 without any trouble. Accuracy is good - but WST leaves plenty of crap in the gun. Clays is a bit fast for lead - but good with plated or jacketed stuff.
  12. The 125's were a bit quicker 1092fps avg (136pf). I used 4.5gns of WSL on the 122 lead projectiles to get 1058 fps (129pf). The recoil seems pretty soft yet the slide cycling is still positive and crisp. My gun is an SVI 2011 style frame with an STI slide and Nowlin 38 Super barrel with a steel 3 port comp. It shoots real sweet.
  13. Thanks guys - I tried 4.8 gns behind a Winchester 125gn HP (bulk pak specials) - wow !! at 25 yards it was just one ragged hole about a half inch in diameter.... and that was for 6 shots. At 50 yards it was an inch and a quarter 6 shot group. All in all I am very impressed. Even the coated 122gn lead projectiles were well under 2 inches at 50 yards - and the gun is much cleaner than when I shoot Winchester 231 or WST. Seems that I got a real bargain.
  14. I have just purchased 10lbs of Winchester WSL - it was too good a deal not to take it (like so many others no doubt !) - even though it has been out of production since 1998. I intend to load my Bianchi 38 super with it, but can't seem to find much data other than an old Winchester guide that lists WSL in 9mm loads. I will use 122gn coated lead projectiles for practice and 115gn sierra's or Hornady XTP 115's for matches. Anyone have any experience with WSL and especially in Bianchi shooting ?
  15. Where are the Mover Dots made OTHER than at Gilmores' ?? Surely if Riley can't make supply then someone else can ! Is it a Leupold standard line ? 8shooter - for a really good mover base try Pete's Gun Works in Sydney - it is a near copy of the famous Jonsil (Silady) mount.
  16. AP...... 9x23 brass is available in Australia, and a good selection of Primers, but WST is a bit scarce - there is plenty of Bullseye around (and no shortage of Bullsh!t) ! If you go to the trouble of taking brass... then take a set of dies. They may be only thing that would slow you down ! Email Craig Ginger.... he will have a good idea of what is readily available in the area. I think his address is on the Blacktown Pistol Club website.
  17. I think that the problem is the 8.4 volts that the 7 cells produce - that's why I was going to try an 8 cell batery - they are rated at 9.6 volts. I just didn't want to fry one MkIII in the name of experimentation.
  18. For about 10 years now I have been using rechargeable NI-MH batteries in my two PACT MKIII Timers. They work fine for training and dry-firing, but I have noticed that they both have problems with the chrono when using rechargeables or even alkalines that have an hour of timer use on them. Has anyone else found the problem ? And has anyone else tried a 9.6 volt rechargeable in their PACT. I do roughly 20 hours of dry fire training and about 6 hours of live fire per week over PPC, Action Pistol and Air Pistol, so I save a reasonable amount through the rechargeables.
  19. Dude.... the words do not support your theory. Why blow off $6k on a project without a ruling from the NRA ? Hell, if it is knocked back ... you can always shoot Service Pistol. later
  20. When I read the rules for metallic sight semi-auto - it seems that those guns are excluded from the metallic sight division because of rule 3.2 "3.2 Metallic Sight Firearm - Minimum caliber is 9x19mm (9mm); a semi-automatic firearm with no more than a 6 1/4 inch barrel length. The front sight not to extend past the front of the slide and the rear sight not past the rear of the slide by a 1/4 inch. A revolver’s barrel will not exceed 8 5/8 inches in length; the front sight not to extend past the front of the barrel and the rear sight will not extend past the rear of the frame. "
