  1. Thank you. I do appreciate the advice. About how many long range targets are there at Ironman? Soonest that I could possibly go would be next year, regardless. Usually 3 at around 500, one at 700 and one at 900. I think that last time I shot it you could score a total of 3 hits at each distance for a total of 9 bonus hits. I didn't shoot Ironman last year so YMMV. Stlhead shoots it every year and could give you a heads up on how it is run now. Doug Last time I shot it, I believe it was 5 hits worth 10s each / target, but it's been a while.
  2. But we're not talking long range matches here. We're talking about three bonus targets at a 3-gun match where you are allowed spotters
  3. Shooting just 10s isnt really that important. Figuring out what works and what doesnt, is. I tested gripping with different pressure, different hand positions on the barricade, different body positions on both sides of the barricade, shooting faster and slower. Just test the shit out of things, to find what works. Also, when you practice, dont worry about holding off to shoot all 10s. Practice aiming for the center/neck and make sure you shoot nice groups. With more training and finding the right positions, you'll soon be able to hold in the center for everything, so practice "the right way" and then just hold off at matches. When I started shooting PPC I had to hold off quite a bit, especially left barricade, but also sitting (at 50y). After a while and a decent amount of practice, I was able to hold center/neck even at 50y. Btw, Ralf and Sylvia are good friends of mine, so if you ever head out that way or decide to get something from them, say hi from me
  4. dry fire, dry fire, dry fire. And practice more at the 50ym line. Once you step back to the 25y line the target looks enormous. Practising the actual match isnt really that useful either. Figure out where you're losing points and practice only on those segments. No point in wasting ammo at 3 and 6y. When I was practicing PPC, I could spend an entire range session only shooting one single string, or even a single position, for hundreds of rounds. However, there's probably only so far you'll get if you dont have anyone to practice with. It might be worth saving up the money to take a class from Neil Jones, or someone else. In the long run in might save you money....
  5. Some of my gear still has KY mud in various places... and I didnt even shoot the match last year
  6. I was at mid-high 2900s in my 18" JP and just over 3000 In the 20" with my 69gr SMKs. Compressed VV140 load over recommended max.
  7. +1 for semi. Bolt is just too slow. A .308 works just fine. You'll probably have someone spotting for you and helping you get on target, so no need for something fancier.
  8. Im a thin and pale computer geek, pretty much as far from operator as you can get Ive had good experiences at PHX, so I guess it's more depending on the airline you fly with than the airport.
  9. I don't think it will make me more competitive, I have not been competitive for years and I don't see that changing just because a new division is being considered. I've been shooting a Prod/Optics gun for over 6 months and have been beaten by a lot of competitors, the same competitors that were beating me when I shot an Open/Major gun. I am promoting this division because of all the reasons I have specified over and over again. I think it will grow the sport I think it will help retain competitors who may have to leave the sport due to poor vision I think it will help to promote sponsorship from companies that make this equipment I think it provides a lower cost alternative to Open for competitors that want/need to use a red-dot For the first point, I believe that the number of gun owners that can't be bothered to shoot USPSA with an iron sighted gun but will happily do so with a PO gun with 10 round magazines and no other modifications is virtually zero. I dont think Ive ever seen one of those at a match and the ones Ive seen in non-match settings are extremely few. If, and thats a pretty big if, there is any decent participation in this division, I suspect that it will just be people jumping over from other divisions. Im not sure the second point is very valid. No one has to leave because their vision is bad (unless they cant see the targets), since they can shoot just fine in Open. Third point might have some merit, but since it's very unlikely to be a large division, sponsorship will be according to size (read small). Seems implausible that Glock or S&W would plow large sums of money into a small division with uncertain future, some maybe, but unlikely to be noticeable in the grand scheme of things. The fourth point is just silly. A gun for PO wont be cheaper than shooting in Open, because (surprise!) exactly the same gun will be ok in Open. Creating a new division so that some people can be just a little more competitive seems like a waste of time. Revolver Optics might make more sense, since I'm guessing that division has the highest average age and would be the most in need of dots
  10. I say we try Production Optics, Open 10, Revolver Optics, Compact Carry Pistol, Limited Optics, Duty Pistol, Duty Optics all at the same time and the division with the highest participation wins recognition!
  11. Last time I chronoed my G34 and SP01, the difference was 0.5 PF between the two. YMMV.
  12. Ive flown quite a bit with a few different airlines with my 3300 and never been dinged for overweight or oversize, guess Ive been lucky. Yup. Me, Bennie Cooley, Rob Romero, Jansen Jones, TNTC One time it was 100.00 per segment, Delta. 400.00 total. So I just learned to pack real light. Ive seen them weigh it several times without dinging me for it, 75lbs I think is the record so far

    Magpul GL9

Dont really see the point if they're $5 or so less than factory mags, but for those that need 40-50 mags / gun, it adds up fast!
  15. It will be interesting to see if other companies come out with longer magazines now. If not it's gonna give the Unlimted Glock shooters a bit of an advantage with the 33 round mags for them. 33 - 33 ? ? HA I got a 55 round drum for mine Well it originally was for my 9mm AR carbine uhh , I mean pistol Just put a Glock feed tower on that Beta mag.. you know you want to!
  16. It will be interesting to see if other companies come out with longer magazines now. If not it's gonna give the Unlimted Glock shooters a bit of an advantage with the 33 round mags for them. My CZ 170mm mags take 29 with a thin base pad. I'll probably get another 2-3 rounds into them if I use the CZC large basepad. Of course, the Glock shooters could put a +5 base pad on their mags and get to 36, or use a drum. For 3-gun, I think youve pretty much reached the point of diminishing returns when you hit 30-32. I doubt that removing the limit is going to change anything, it just seemed like a silly historical restriction, so kudos to 3GN for listening
  17. 150 pf out of a 9mm carbine is easily achieved. Depending on your load/powder, your 125-130 pf minor pistol load might actually make 150 in your 16" 9mm AR. (not that it matters, since not even USPSA cares about pf for 3-gun anymore)
  18. They dont mention anything about caliber in the rules either, so when they say factory length, do they mean for .223/5.56? What about mags for other calibers?
  19. Second, insert any other restrictions on modifications that you actually intend for each division. List the modifications that you explicitly don't want to see. I don't know what those are or if you have any in mind since most everything is allowed in divisions. Perhaps you don't want frame weights, tac lights, or slide rackers? Can shooters legally add weight? I think that listing allowed configurations and modifications would be preferred to the other way around, at least for a division like Factory that's supposed to be pretty restricted (I assume)
  20. Which historically has meant that pretty much anything goes, as long as its based on a "standard" 1911/2011 or AR platform. Even custom built ARs shooting wildcat calibers have been ok in the past... If theyr'e trying to change that, they probably need to define and refine the rules a little further, since it's a can of worms. If not, then factory is a stupid name.
  21. What are some things you'd like to see in true Unlimited? Things like removing the mag limits for pistols. It's silly to have restrictions on pistol mags but not rifle and shotgun mags. Or removing the restrictions on not modifying or reconfiguring things between stages. Kinda like Trooper division, but without the restriction of having to carry everything between stages.
  22. For a minute I got really excited and thought that they would actually have an unlimited division. Then it turns out they just renamed Open. :/
