  1. I just got my open gun back from Metaloy, it took them three days to hard chrome and 4 days on the return shipping.
  2. I know this is an old thread, but are these times from concealment?
  3. This is an interesting point….in several of the IDPA matches I’ve shot there have been stages where multiple targets were engaged though a window where less than 50% of the shooters body was exposed to all targets. The R.O.’s instructions were to engage targets by “slicing the pie” and perform reloads behind cover, shown as 100% cover. It would seem that per the IDPA rules a shooter could stand in front of the window because more that 50% of their body was behind cover. But, could the course of fire mandate that the shooter use more than 50% of cover for target engagement and reloads?

    Barrel holes

I just had a couple put in my super, it seems to have flatten it out a little.
  5. I hear you Eric the last few classifiers I have been trying so hard to post a score that is in the next higher classification. You seem to forget.......just relax and shoot!
  6. I like being able to easily adjust for elevation. This is really helpful if you haven’t settled on a particular load. But, I also think that Heinie slant pro's have a great sight picture as well.
  7. Another area to look at is the extractor tension. After installing a side mount C-More, I was experiencing the same problem. I finally installed an AFTEC extractor which fixed the issue. (I am sure a qualified smith could have fixed the problem with the factory extractor.)
  8. Shot this one today, started facing right and then twisted so my back was towards the target. In this position you can get some weight off your left knee. At the start, began twisting left while standing up. 7.80 sec, 0 points down, hf 7.692, Open
  9. PistolPete look at this post. There is a cure for all those primers on the floor! Check this out!
  10. I hear that Metalife does a good job, but I don't have any personal experience with them. Good Luck!

    Tac Sequence

Mark, - I like the bases of your stage design. Most of the matches I shoot here in MI are the typical start here, move there, reload like this, etc...etc. Great for beginners, but after awhile there is very little mental challenge.
  12. Thanks Dan, I just finished reading the article in F.S. I am not sure if the shape is the problem. Mine is shaped like a 7. This would mean the contact area is at its highest point causing a lower ejection path (if I am interpreting this article correctly ). I will have to look at this again and make sure the case isn’t hitting another part of the ejection port then popping up and hitting the mount.
  13. I just had a side mounted c-more installed on my .38 super open gun and noticed that rounds were bouncing off my hand during practice. After closer examination, the case mouth is hitting the beveled portion of the mount and being deflected down. I have not experienced any jams do to this, but I am sure there is a good chance for one in the future. Doing a search I found the following possible causes and fixes: -not enough extractor tension -speed up the cycle rate (install lighter recoil spring) Any other suggestions?
  14. Two years ago at the Michigan IDPA State Match I was running an IPSC side match with a friend. He repeatedly tried to talk me into trying IPSC, which I firmly replied NO!! This year, at the same State Match, same side match, there I sat with my .38 super open and STI limited gun in my range bag.....we had a good chuckle.

    Tac Sequence

Has anyone shot an IDPA match that didn’t specifically call out the stage procedure, leaving it up to the competitor to shoot the stage within the guidelines of the “LGB”? For this case having the shooter engage two (or more) targets at the same distance, without there being cover available, tactical sequence should be used, or a procedural would be issued.
  16. This is my Hi-Power from Ted Yost, it’s a real beauty. The trigger is outstanding, even though it still has that long take-up and reset. One big obstacle that has been difficult for me to over come is executing quick reloads. The magazine is rectangular with sharp edges that reach out and grab the mag. opening. You have to have perfect alignment to pull off a quick reload. Ahh, practice, practice, practice....
  17. I soaked the flash suppressor in KROIL for about 5 days, and then used a barrel vise and wrench. I would highly recommend the barrel vise, it makes a huge difference.
  18. Flex you hit the nail right on the head. At first my front sight (.090" width) was favored to the right when my shots broke. This along with a tense grip and poor trigger control caused the shots to go low right. Making sure my sights were properly aligned and keeping a relaxed grip equated to groups centered in the A-zone at 15 yards.
  19. Another observation, being right eye dominate, my left wrist is open to the left a little, aligning the sight with my right eye. This leads me to believe that I no longer have a "neutral" weak hand grip. Thanks for the advice.
  20. Practicing weak hand (left for me), my groups tend to be low and to the right. I am not sure what is causing this( grip, flinch?). I swear that my sights are right on when the round goes off, but something is a miss here. Any help would be appreciated!
  21. Rhino, - thanks, I have herd good things about Grams, thinking about giving them a try on some STI mags.
  22. Does any one use pads from Grams Engineering? What are your Opinions?
  23. Thanks to all who replied. I tried this in a match this weekend with good results. But, as scandog mentioned IDPA COF usually makes it clear where you are to shoot, so this method may not always be within those guidelines.
  24. One problem in Cowboy action shooting was the older colt single actions and clones tend to have a barrel diameter which were greater than the cylinder bore diameter. There was a theory that harder alloy bullets would not upset enough to form a seal against the barrel. This caused hot gasses to rush by the bullet causing gas cutting, which would leave lead deposits. You could actually see evidence of gas cutting, or what was perceived evidence, on recovered bullet bases. Since pressure needed to be kept rather low, a solution was to use a softer alloy which would upset under lower pressure and seal the barrel.
  25. Is it a requirement to seek cover behind a barricade before you start to engage targets? Using the diagram below, if the shooter is moving from point X to the barricade, can you engage the first target, on the left side, just after stopping at the barricade. Rather than dunking behind cover or shooting the right hand side targets first. (Assuming the stage will allow the shooter to engage targets from either side of the barricade.) targets======> _ _ _ barricade======>== start=> X
