  1. Thanks for all of the info and keep it comming, it seems to me that if the bullets are 402 then I would need to make the throat .403-.404 to give the bullet plenty of clearance. Would this statement be correct? Thanks for your help.
  2. I have a nowlin barrel in my six inch limited blaster and my question is this- have any of you ever had a problem with lead bullets hitting the side of the throat and not allowing the round to chamber. The barrel is in spec but is on the tight side in all deminsions. The problem seems to be in the lead bullets I use for practice and some matches. The bullets seem to be sized to big (.402)- (most of the lead I buy is real close to this) My question is this, how do I make the throat bigger- (a little on the sloppy side )so I can use lead bullets. I have two other 40 blasters with schuemann barrels and I dont have this problem. Any info would help would be great.
  3. Sounds like fun. I will round up a few guys from the Panhandle(Real North Texas) and we will come and play.
  4. you need to go with the sti or sv. In my opinion my sti .40 cal. idpa gun shoots softer than the 9 and it also kicks butt in limited division. With this combo you can shoot IDPA until you get bored or fed up with the inconsistant RO's and then you can go shoot uspsa/ipsc. One gun that does it all is the way to go. Nothing wrong with the 1911 or glock, the sti/sv are better options if you are serious about competing in either idpa/uspsa/ipsc.
  5. You bring up two good questions. I dont have the exact answers but I shoot a sti with replaceable faces. I have also had my gun checked at state and regional matches and there was not one word said by the powers that be. The same goes for my vest, I use 5.11 vest and I fold the pocked flaps in so it makes reloads easy. I have never been told not to. I have have taken classes given by IDPA gamers that suggest you stow you mag in your pants pocket so that your hand is already underneath your cover and closer to your next mag. I still think it is faster to drop your mag in a vest pocket rather than trying to navigate it into a small pant pocket.
  6. +1 for SONOFA Has anyone ever seen a SONOFA win a division or class at a regional or state match? I think they are just mad that they cant shoot for sh**. I think we should should add NS to Sonofa and this will stands for NO Shootin SONOFA!!
  7. I was just wanting to get an idea of who was going to be shooting at the Texas State Limited Match. I have never been so I am wondering if there will be plenty of grandmasters and masters competing. There is nothing like learning from the best.
  8. Funny. And here I thought the RO was interested in making sure the rules were followed and that the shooter was safe. If you are gonna call it, then call it., If you aren't, then let it go and get on to the next shooter. I guess I just disagree with your tactics on this one. The RO isn't in the business of getting a shooter "flustered" as far as I'm concerned. +1 The only real complants I hear from other IDPA shooters and that have experinced myself are inconsistant RO's. Some RO's will you ding for taking a dump, other will let it go. Since IDPA is shot for fun "ONLY" there should be no trophies or prize table. Then we would not have to worry about how other shooters shot the stage.
  9. SVI fits in the box like a glove. I use the stainless model and it puts me right at 41 oz.
  10. Yeah, nobody cares at the local match, I haven't been there on classifier day though. I also don't want to take it to a match and my scales be off an oz I think that the weight rule needs to be bumped up so that a guy can shoot a mil spec with a few extras and not have to worry about going to the scale at a match. I have seen several guys weigh their 45's and not make weight. They did have S&A magwells though. Who wants to shoot a single stack with no magwell?
  11. Lets see, major towns in Area 4, near ranges of some type, where there are "things to do": New Orleans Shreveport Dallas/FW Houston OK City Tulsa Little Rock My apologies for missing some others, for sure. And many countless other smaller towns with at least decent food, bars, and movie theatres. I like the Clark range, shot there for years, but I'd be all for a semi-rotating venue, to make the match more accessible to everyone - if not every year, at least periodically. How long does it take to plan Area 4?
  12. [/quote As far as reloads are concerned, the rule of thumb to remember is to always slide lock reload unless mandated by the coarse of fire. With other types of legal idpa reloads their is a greater chance of dropping a mag and of coarse they are slower. Run your gun empty even if means making up a shot somewhere.
  13. Dont worry about anything but having a great time!! Dont let your age bother you at all, I get my butt handed to me by guys in thier 40's on a regular basis and I am not that bad. IDPA is a great way to get back into shooting but shooting both games( yes both are games) will make you that much better. Remember that shooting is shooting. Good Luck!
  14. If moving the match is favored and a possiblilty it looks like there are several great alternatives. Robert and his crew have proven that they know how to put on a top notch match. I know for many being able to shoot tbe Area 4 match anywhere this year would be great.
  15. Tulsa sounds great, do you think that they will be to busy with trying to get their range finished for Nationals to take on any other major event this year?
  16. What do yall think about asking Robert Porter and Ken Hicks about moving the Area 4 match to the Double Tap Ranch? It would be a more central location and there would be way less humidity!! Robert, what do you think? I know Wichita Falls has plenty of hotel rooms.
