  1. I think as a hint as to how USPSA HQ views thing just look at the resutls from any major USPSA match per divisions. All the classes are jumbled in together. OTOH, look at how IDPA does it, they break out everdolby by class per division, and any jumbled together results are strictly unofficial. In USPSA, if ya ain't the lead dawg, the scenery never changes
  2. Didn't you read the part where his hands get cold during the winter? I don't have to worry so much down here in Texas but where's he's at, it'd be annoying trying to shoot with numb hands. Besides that, there hs to be a cheaper mousetrap out there, might not better, 80 dollars for that plastic gizmo is steep. Chillsey, you ever look at price sticker or price tag guns?
  3. You could just get rid of the classification systems. Just shoot head's up within a division. I'm tinking that the olny other thing people are sandbagging for in IDPA is STI contigency money, maybe a $15 trophy, and a bump. I guess I could see how some people are padding their shootin resumes with their IDPA wins via sandbagging so that they can dupe people into taking CCW classes from them. Besides that, IDPA is already set up so there aren't any pirze tables. It's all raffle/door prizes anyways. I'm wonderin if there ain't some sort of log jam effect going on with people stalling out in Expert class just hoping to win Expert and get the bump to Master. I tink most people don't want to make master by shooting a sub 88 second classifier. Revolver shooters getting the bump at major matches. Ha! That's almost funny Bones. There ain't enough wheelies in IDPA major matches...errr... 10 or more for anyone to ever get the bump. If you are stuck on the wheel gun, then you already gotta know that the only way you're moving up is shooting ever faster classifier matches.
  4. I seen these single stack 1911's out at matches where the grips fit real tight against the mag well. I really like the looks of that. I've got a 1911 single stack gun that came with a plastic MSH. I'd really like a metal part instead. So do ya'll have any recommendations for a magazine well/chute, a metal MSH, and then wood checkered grips that fit flush? Links, possibly? This would be for a stainless gun. Tanx!
  5. Yeah, is it a waste of time? I ran into some old timer at a reloading store and he said I should do the pan half full with water heat up the case mouths/necks with a propane torch and when they get cherry red knock them over into the water to quench them, which is supposed to make the cases or just the case necks last longer.
  6. The prices I am seeing for 1,000 69 gr SMK's is in the 180 to 200 dollar range. Is there some place cheaper? Is there a cheaper alternative to the 69 gr SMK's? I wish Montana Gold made a cheap but heavier bullet for the .223. And just a .308 bullet that was inexpensive too.
  7. Somebody on the first page wrote about shooting paper at 100 yards. UGGG! I guess it all depends on how the stage is set up, but that's got to be a long day to walk out score and tape those targets. That would really slow things down I would think. I'd much rather see steel starting at 100 yards, or maybe even 75 I like the idea of time plus scoring. It's a lot like golf then. The guy or gal with the lowest score (time) wins. Anybody here ever see the TSA (tactical shooting association) target and scoring system? Somehow they figure in major and minor PF on the scoring of each target. I'm not for sure how it works. I have never shot it.
  8. Would you buy an individual steel challenge membership next year?
  9. I get a litte nervous seeing people carry unbagged guns (on a cart with a flag is Okay), but I guess that's up to the individual bigger 3 gun matches MD's and the ranges those matches are run on . I really don't care about unified rules. If a big match has their rules posted to the web, preferably where I can download them in a .pdf format and print them out long before the entry form turn in date, then IMO it is caveat emptor. As far as Blockhead's comments about growing our sport, with gas at over 4 bucks a gallon and .223 factory ammo running 50 cents a shot, I don't think too many people are goning to have enough discretionary income left over to keep one gun (the pistol) running, let alone 3.
  10. gHeyer than a football bat! whatever that Ben guy said, + 1
  11. Sniff Sniff Low post count. Smells like spam. Dealer's forum is that way------> http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showforum=58 Classifieds is real close to that too, if you make it to 25 posts.
  12. Who's comign up wiht thees stage designs? Does the Match Diretctor have a grudge against iron sighted shooters? WTH? Definately go with the 3 to 9 scope for that long stuff. Just be carefull thuogh cuz your zero might change zomming in from like 9 power down to 3. Yuo have given the scope the box test, havent you? once you strat out with the 3 to 9 scope it has to stay on your gun and theres no changing to the haolosight either or to another gun. so you have alredy shot at these 5" plates at 200 yards alreedy and you're used to it with the eotehc, then stick with the eotech then. i guess you could mount the eotech to the forearm quadraail and call it open division.
  13. The theory propoesed heer on theese forums is that they dont want just any Tom, Dick, and Harry not paying for a USPSA membership fee and shooting the classifier stages down on Harry's farm, using the calculator and getting an idea of what their class would be. That's the theory anyway. I reckon if said Tom, Dick, and Harry was that motivated to "boot leg" or hijack USPSA they could also go through the major match results pick out the scores for the likes of Dave Sevigny, Rob Leatham, and Todd Jarret for the classifier stages to get an idea of the for real High Hit Factors and possibly back track from there. There is a thread from way back on theese forums from a guy named "shred" . He somehow got access to the database or did some resveres mathematics and showed in his thread with some graphs how folks could be over classified on a particular CM, folks on other CM's could be underclassified, and them some CM's were's right on. Just do a search for "shread" and punch in "classfier" for the key word search. It should pop up. Yes, I'd like to see for reall High Hit Factors per each classifier and by division posted up to the web too. I think I saw somebody else saying that it would be like who posting who ran a sub 4 minute mile, or a 10 second 100 meter dash.
  14. I was wondering if they were gator back grips like these here: Gator Backs at Brownell's Or if they were simmonich grips: Simmonich Gunner grips via Brownells I just remember being impressed by how textured they were when the shooter was given the LAMR command. This was a few months ago. I asked the shooter if I could check out his 1911 and we went over to the safe area to check it out. He told me what they were but for the life of me can't remember what they were. Do you all know of any other grips textured just as much? They were plastic/polymer. They weren't alumagrips. Thanks in advance
  15. Okay, so I've read about some custom shops who put together STI framed guns. I think Brazos Custom is one and Dawson Precision is another. I was thinking about an STI Spartan but I would like a stainless gun first and/or a hardchromed gun second. This would be for USPSA's single stack division and IDPA's CDP division. I do like the Spartan as far as price goes, but I have heard that it is made in the Phillipines and has a lot of MIM parts. Again, it is NOT a stainless or hardchromed gun. I don't want to put up with the hassle of shipping the gun back and forth to a plate-ing company. I just want the closest thing to a "plug and play", run 100% uber reliable, 1911 Single Stack in .45 with an STI frame. I don't want to buy a gun have it puke all the time and then have the frustration of sending it off to a "gunsmith" to work on it. Oops, I almos fergot. I'd like to buy a .22LR conversion for it too. Any recommendations BESIDES a Kimber? Any come with a "stainless-like" finish?
  16. Pics, Les, I need some pics. Okay, TRUBL, do you have a JP/VTAC modular handguard then?
  17. I used BigDave's idea of the canted rail pieces from Yankee Hill Machine. Just at 25 yards, the flip up rear sight ran out of windage adjusment. The flip up front sight's post was screwed down all the way. (I was using a HiViz fiber optic post and I would recommend against it, BTW, because it only has 2 notches in it for the detent pin. If you're going to run a FO post get the one in Dillon's Blue Press magazine/catalog. It has more notches.) At 25 yards, the bullets were right on for elevation but still hitting 2 inches to the left of the point of aim. There is enough thread left on the flip up front sight's clamping screw that I could put in a 1/8" to 3/16" thick shim to get the front sight where it needs to be. Probaby just a piece of aluminum or steel flat stock notched out for the clamping screw. Or actually maybe a little farther than where it needs to be and then correct the windage back to the left w/ the rear sight. At the range, I tried loosening the gas black and twisting the whole thing around. That might have worked but it made the gun puke. Probably something about the gas tube not in line or squared up to the gas key on the bolt carrier group. So I twisted it back, it ran again. I have been emailing Yankee Hill Machine about this thread the past several days. I have been trying to get them to mill up an all in one (no separate canted rail pieces), but I think they think the money or the market is just not there to warrant the expense in retooling. (hey, if you think otherwise, please email them and tell them that they are missing out on market share in the 3 gun competitions) I even told them that the next best thing is the iron sight system by JP Rifles, which goes for $99. Now, you don't have to possess a JP/VTAC modular handguard on your AR (another $150), but it looks like it would help. The other option seems to drill and tap your non JP free float tube and bolt/screw JP's iron sight "rail" to your handguard. I told YHM it would be sweet if they could get a canted front and rear sight combo together for under $100. Sorry JP. The YHM tech guy I was emailing said it could be that my gas block sits lower than the rail on top of the upper receiver. I haven't looked that closely at it, so my gun might actually be dead on at 50 yards or it might be 2 inches to the right. I don't know, yet. (I thought I was going to run my AR in limited so I originally bought the flip up rear and front, thinking that someday I would buy a nice scope and they would just be a BUIS system. Well, I saw BigDave's thread here, and scrounged a scope from somewhere else, then bought the canted rail pieces.)
  18. I figured out what my problem was w/ the inconsistent OAL's I was getting. I didn't run the brass through the sizing/decapping die first. I went straight for the powder charging / belling die first. DOH! Problem solved! Just like my shooting ability it was operator error.
  19. I'm thinking about switching to 9mm for production. If I went w/ 147 gr Berry's and a Winchester Small Pistol Primer, how much Titegroup would it take for a 130-ish power factor? I'm thinking the OAL would be in the 1.12" + range. The mags won't accept rounds too much longer than that.
  20. Nu Finish 2000 squirted in your tumbler with the media does a good job too. I just let it run w/o the brass for at least 5 minutes. I then break up the walnut shell clumps w/ a stick while the machine is running and then I dump in the brass. Hmmm... I might have to try the simple green and a mesh bag trick too. W/ the heat we've been getting lately, I'll just stick them out on the driveway.
  21. Yeah, this is for a 5" production division gun. What kind of charge wieght should I go with to make a .40 MINOR load using Berry's 180gr (copper plated/swaged) bullet and Titegroup powder and a Winchester Small Pistol primer. OAL is aroun 1.12" Gratzie!
  22. thanks! <tongue in cheek mode on> I knew it! I knew sombody would have to say "try Clays". For the newbies out there that might be reading this, this is the "Titegroup for 9 and .40 and Clays for .40 and definitely for .45 forum". Nothing wrong w/ that, it's just that if you ask about some other powder like E3, or Solo, or American Select somebody will come along and say "try Clays" or "try Titegroup". <tongue in cheek mode off> Yes, I should have bought a 4lb jug of clays instead, but I'm stuck w/ the 4lbs of 231 for now. I won't be buying any more powder until I use up this 231. Back when I had runned out of some V V powder, I tried one pound of 231. It has given me the lowest ES's and SD's and didn't seem as temperature sensitive as the VV powders. Besides I didn't think the V V powders lived up to their reputation as being as clean as they were supposed to be.
  23. Just cracked open a brand new 4lb jug of 231 the other day and bought 500 of the Berry's 230 gr RN and another 500 of the Berry's 200 gr SWC. Using Winchester Large Pistol Primers. Looking for a major PF load out of a 5" 1911. Probably going for an OAL in the 1.24" neighbourhood on the 230 gr RN. Gots no idea on what OAL I should be looking for on the 200 gr. SWC. Any suggestions?
