  1. Supply also has to understand that when frustration overcomes joy, people like me say f*#k it and quit using the product all together. I don't worry about .22 availability or production anymore. I sold all my .22's months ago and have no plans to replace them. I am a lost consumer. If it gets to the same point where I can no longer shoot my competition pistols regularly enough to enjoy it, I might just say f*#k that too and go back to golf. There's no shortage of courses and balls.

    Lifeislarge,

I understand your frustration ! But if everyone had the same thoughts and ideas as yours about selling all your guns, Then the Government has WON !

I mean supply has to come back, even if it takes a while ,But I for one am not giving up my firearms. I don't shoot as much as I use to, But I do have enough ammo! And powder, primers and bullets to , If need be to put food on the table and take care of anyone or thing that would threaten my family. And my way of life !!!!

Granted, I'm not one of those that when I'm in Wal-Mart. And yes my local Wal-Mart has ammo and 22s. When I'm at the sporting good counter, I don't buy, buy. I look at it this way I have 22s, The next guy in line may need to buy them to teach his son/daughter to shoot.

  2. Thanks for the replies guys. Sounds like my brother is getting a rifle he is going to love! He is planning on using it for deer and maybe hogs.

    Thanks again

    Jeff

  3. Anyone have any experience with this round , My brother is on the verge of trading for an AR chambered in this caliber. It is a new round to him and he is not familiar with it. About the only thing we do know is it is based on a 30-30 case.

Any info on availability of components would also be helpful !

    Thanks

    Jeff

  4. The gov't isn't smart enough to cause this type of shortage.

    We did it ...

But anti 2nd Amendment types coming to power were most certainly the catalyst for this event AND the previous ones.

Just a heads-up! this thread is on the verge of being closed and locked!

I started a thread with the same content, And before I knew it and it was a very civil discussion, The thread was locked!

    Just my 2cents

    Why would they close it.

that was my question, And I never got an answer

  5. Ironic sentence is ironic. :roflol:

The point is that as you said this has all been a result of panic buying. There has been no law passed or action taken by a government agency that has put us where we are today. We did this to ourselves.

Not saying lawmakers have not tried. That has been a market force in the equation to be sure.

    AMEN !!!

  6. I have been able to buy pretty much every type of powder I have wanted in the past six months (load 9mm, .223/5.56 and 300BLK) either on-line or at local gun shops. I have purchased these:

    • Vihtavuori N320
    • Hodgon Titegroup
    • Alliant E3
    • Hodgon Clays
    • Accurate Arms #2 (although haven't seen any recently)
    • Accurate Arms #5 (although haven't seen any recently)
    • Accurate Arms #7 (although haven't seen any recently)
    • Winchester 231
    • Reloader 15
    • Accurate 2230 (although haven't seen any recently)
    • IMR XBR8208
    • Vihtavuori N133
    • Vihtavuori N135
    • Accurate TAC (although haven't seen any recently)
    • Accurate 1680 (although haven't seen any recently)
    • Hodgon 110

I regularly see these locally (even in the past week) although I don't use them:

    • WST
    • WSF
    • IMR PB
    • Winchester 296
    • Winchester 748
    • All sorts of Alliant (1 and 8 pounders) showed up recently.
    • All sorts of IMR powders (mostly 1 pounders)

And a whole bunch I am forgetting.

Sorry to say I'm not one of those people that can sit in front of the pc every free minute I have. Other things to do(family, friends, work, yard work, garden) the list goes on! By the time I do get to sit at the PC, which btw Is most of the time around 8PM ,Everything has already been bought up!

  8. I have experienced some stubborness when resizing on my Lyman Tmag press and yes - using lube did solve my problem but that slows the reloading proccess way down, plus makes things a little more messy and sticky. Granted not alot more but enough annoy me. The trick I have found to bypass using lube is in the tumbling. Use one of these two products in your tumbling media. Either Nu Finish car polish or Mineral Spirits. Both of these work very well but I myself prefer mineral spirits. Number one its cheaper and number two it does a better job removing powder residue. The Nu Finish will definity make your Brass shinyer though. But both products will leave your brass nice and slick and smooth. This made a huge difference when resizing my brass.

Isn't mineral sprits a petroleum product? if so wouldn't this affect the powder, primer?

  9. You know al this talk of stockpiling , shortages ,(should have stocked up earlier) is all BS.

Yes it is supply and demand! But to tell the truth, not all of us and I I'm pretty sure there is a lot of us, don't have the resources or money to make large quantity purchases for bullets, brass or powder.

Its always the same soap opera, every time I hear someone talk about supply and demand, I would almost bet they are probably the ones going to the LGS, wally world ,Dicks, cabala's or where ever. Seeing ammo, and/or components on the shelves and spending almost every dollar they have on them, and in turn contributing to the problem of short supply.

That's my 2 cents take it for what its worth!

If you already have a stockpile, why not lay off for a bit and let everything catch up!

BTW , If my little rant gets the thread locked, Let me say I'm sorry now!

  10. In 2004 lead was about 20 cents per pound. It has come down recently to 1 dollar a pound. Lead is a commodity and commodities are typically sound markets in terms of how you would normally think of supply and demand. Although there is some environmental compliance interference even internationally.

Lead would have to be (totally guessing) 50-60 % of the price if bullets? So as the main component goes so does the price. Brass would be the other big component. And I couldn't find a chart of prices, all metals are up over the last few years.

So - I think it's a bit naive to say companies just charge more because people are buying more. It's true in some cases to an extent but I don't think it is what's going on with ammo

How does lead go down from 20cents a pound to 1 dollar a pound!

Or maybe I'm reading that wrong!

  11. OK I've heard all the sides and . All I can say is I still think its a form of gun control. Just think of this, who controls the ammo, powder and firearms companies? (The Fed Government)

They have to get the license to conduct business(from the IRS/BATF). Import/export license if needed(also from the feds) They have to keep records of all their product, Just incase BATF/IRS wants to make a surprise visit and inspect their business.\

In a sense they are government controlled !

The one thing I am tried of hearing is I should have though ahead and stocked up, well since I'm not shooting as much as I id before my son came along. I let my stock go down, But I still have enough for me and him to go do a little shooting now and then.

For anyone that had the stockpile or though ahead and stocked up. Glad to hear it, But the same song over and over again gets old.

I want to know the real reason, I know that panic buying ,especially after a public shooting is part of the cause ,But I still cant believe that It is the main reason, That ammo and powder companies cant keep up!

I don't see anyone having to much trouble finding any kind of firearm, even with the gouged, outrageous prices.

Like I said in my original post, The guns are no good without ammo!

  12. Not trying to start a flame war, Just a conversation! Yes I can find ammo here and there, But the prices are crazy .I'm talking about the average Joe who cant really afford it, when he feels like it . And yes I know that the scalpers are out in droves.

But as far a us as shooters buying up everything we see, I don't know. But why cant the ammo companies and powder companies get it out to us, no one can buy up powder ,primers ,bullets that fast. The powder and ammo companies can surely run at fast speed, Or can they only go at a snails pace? And are they running 24/7?

I would just really like to know !

Like I said, Our guns are not worth squat without bullets or powder!

BTW, I do have it on good authority(family member) that one of the big chain stores is hoarding a big stockpile at their distribution center ! Like 5 tractor trailer loads

  13. Who else thinks that the current ammo shortage is a form of gun control?

Just think ,if we are unable to get ammo, reloading components ,then what good are our guns?

When a man is unable to go in any store and buy 22LR, when the ammo companies are supposedly running 24/7.

What gives? And as far as finding any 22s ,I am not going to pay $60 a brick, I know I know , Should have stocked up earlier,(biggest BS line I hear), Ive got a stock of 22s, But that wont last forever! But what about the guy, who works, supports his family with what paycheck he gets week to week and then only is able to do a little shooting when and he has a few spare dollars to spend on the ammo, he is SOL!

Just my 2cents, flame away people, I can take it !!

BTW if push comes to shove, I have a cap and ball revolver, enough powder, and lead for the round balls. even have the molds for the round balls and mini balls too!

  14. Finally had time to test the 200gr RNFP !

Groups were decent, All shots were inside a circle the size of a baseball at 15yrds,(offhand) recoil was not powder puff, but not factory either ,didn't run them over a chrono.

    Load I am using is

    200gr RNFP

    mixed brass

    Fed LPP

    4.0 grns Titegroup

As soon as I can I will run them over a chrono.

But I think this is going to be a good load, Just have more testing to do. BTW after 200rds,No sign of leading!

    Jeff

  15. I know the RNFPs are for 45colt,But when I ordered these were all out of 200 and 185gr SWC. They were not in rotation of being casted at that time. So I went with the RNFP, The 147s I ordered for my G35 with 9mm conversion barrel . Eat the 9mm 147gr FPs no problem, No signs of leading after 300rds.Hope I can say the same for the 200gr RNFP out of my springer 45.

:Loading 200rds tonight ,will post with results when I get a chance to go to the range!

  16. Thanks guys!

I've just started using Missouri bullets, My first were the 147s in 9mm. Shot great out of my G35 with LW 9mm conversion barrel. Since I have used all my 200gr SWCs ,And Missouri was out of their 200swc ,I decided to try these.

BTW I'm using 4.0 grs of VV N340 under the 9mm 147s and Have not experience any leading , I've put about 300rds down the tube!
