  1. I'm looking for a good stating load for 40 minor

It will include Rainier 155 FP bullets, the powders I have are titegroup. VV N340 and unique and a half pound HS-6

Any starting points anyone could give me would be appreciated

Gun used will be a G35 glock factory barrel

  2. I've got about 3/4 pound of HS-6. HAs anyone got a good load for 45ACP 200 gr plated x-treme. I'm wanting to try it, I have other powders titegroup , VV 340. Looking in the lee second edition load manual, N-340 and HS-6 are right next to each other, as far as burn rate ,But charge weights are very different .

Has anyone tried HS_6 in 45, I am shooting Springfield loaded 5" no comp!

    Thanks for any info!

  3. OK here's a report for the new shooting range in Shelby/Cleveland county!
Me an my brother went Saturday morning range wasn't to crowded, went can checked in, I now have a certified range card( fro watching the safety video. Once we were checked in, Went to the lower pistol bay, The one that is covered, if in case of rain. Well that was A real disappointment. They were letting them shoot rifles there along side pistol shooters. I will not shoot beside rifle under the cover, to damn load!
Went to the bay with the steel targets, Only one person and his wife there shooting! Only one (1) range officer on duty. He set up a table and we shot on the opposite side of the range! I have to say that he knew his stuff. Very helpful and friendly , I only met the one RSO and The one that I think was the head RSO! the RSO (who was riding around in a golf cart, Seemed like he didn't know a lot about reloading ,He ask a lot of question)! I do have to say that in the check in office, only one of the ladies actually knew what she was doing the others didn't even know how to work the kiosk. We shot for about 3 hours, put about 500 rds. downrange . Didn't shoot any steel But I will be back and shoot that double Texas star!

And for anyone that doesn't know the 250 yd. and short rifle range is CLOSED down till further notice . From what I saw of the new improvements, they have created ricochet plates out of the new baffles they built to stop rounds from leaving the range , BUT form what I saw from the car, you have a very small window to shoot at the berm! And the new baffles have plywood ,with AR500 steel on top of them , since AR rounds wont penetrated AR 500 who knows where they will end up, yes the plywood will slow them down < But (and its JMO ) I think a lot of rounds will be bouncing to the ground right in front of the firing line. because of the AR500 steel. Especially if shooters shoot to high to much

Cleveland county does have a great place to go shoot pistol and hopefully soon rifles, And if it is kept up to the level it is now! And not allowed to go and get run down. It should be a great place for years to come. I will say this if they play their cards right and get GSSF interested and other shooting discipline's ! It will be a great place to go and shoot pistol matches.

All in all I was impressed with the place! But I do not like the idea of letting the rifle shooters shoot right beside the pistol shooters in the lower pistol bay! IMO the cover reverberates the sonic boom from the rifles to much under the cover, Its almost like shooting a rifle indoors .

And one last note, We asked about the brass that is left on the range, The RSO working our bay told us If its on the ground we can have all of it we want, But if its in the bucket NO !They are going to be selling brass, so they pick it up to offer for sell, He had no idea of a price or quantity, He said that they did not have enough to start selling it yet.
Bottom line I will be back, as soon as I get back up to Shelby and my dads on a weekend that I'm able we are going to go again and this time that Texas star is mine!

"A government should be afraid of its people , Not the people afraid of its government"

    AMEN ! Marshal83

Update !, NO plywood on the top of the berm Just AR500 covered baffle's at the firing line!

The following is a update form range visit:

New report on range visit in Cleveland county, I know this look strange but I mess up the placement of the report

  4. OK guys need some input!

There is a new NC dept. of resources range open up in Cleveland county(Shelby NC) My home town!

Via my brother ,He has kept me up to speed on when it opened, and what they have to offer.

My question is, that only about 1 week after opening ,The new 250 yard rifle range was shut down, Due to rounds going over the berm, I was told by my brother and checking out the local news, on the net. That the reason it was shut down is there is a house not 200 yards behind the rifle berm. And that rounds have been hitting the house and barn

The head range officer went to the house and while there heard a round whiz over his head ,went right back up to the range and shut it down! They have since put up a plywood wall on top of the berm! And reopened.

My question is what butt head engineer would build a rifle range with a house right in the line of fire, even if it is behind the berm?

I have found out that the reason rounds were leaving the range is that shooters were sitting their targets only halfway to the 250 yard line and shooting to low, I've seen photos, and they have boxes built to shoot through so as not to shoot over the berm ,But the rounds were hitting the ground and skipping over the berm!

    What are your thoughts?

And is this just a case of the higher ups wanting to get the range open so they can get the money coming in?

Not trying to rant here ,Just want to hear your thoughts!

And mods if this is in the wrong place or not the right content ! Sorry for its placement

    Jeff

  5. Last Saturday I was setting up to run a batch of 45 on my 550. Got the power charge set, and then all of a sudden the primer slide wasn't going all the way back! I took it off and cleaned it, ( piece of tumbling media behind it) Put it back together and slide locked up would not move with rod, had everything lined up but nothing bar was locking in place, Quick call to Dillon help and a few file stroke later(When I say few It only took about 2 stroke with the file) free as a bird!

The side where the screw holes that hold the primer assembly on the 550 had a very slight bulge on the inside face ( The Dillon tech said they tend to do this from time to time.

Just thought I would share this with everyone ,so you all would know the trick if it ever happens to you!

  6. Just a question, not trying to hi-jack the thread!

But this is the third thread I have seen about this subject if failing to pass the case gauge!

And every time I do I see that the poster is using either hi tek, or poly coated bullets. And to mention these thread started when everyone was switching to coated bullets for cost savings.

Could it possibly be a coated bullet problem showing up?

I know that most lead bullets are 1 to 2 thousandths over jacketed bullets of the same caliber, so could that be what going on?

Just my brain working over the problem, maybe I'm seeing something that does not exist

BTW All I have used is Dillon dies in my 2 550s, and I never had a problem with rounds not having pass the gauge.

  7. Palmetto State armory now has VZ grips in stock! Stopped by Thursday and picked up a set for my Springfield Loaded 45 ACP

Now I have to save up to put a set on the Springfield Loaded 9mm

Only ones I saw were for 1911 But m sure they will get other models in stock, Now that they carry them!

  8. Ben wanting to do this, I've got a springer loaded 45 and a loaded 9mm both stainless. It not the best pic ,I got in a hurry to take it but Here it is, Oh and the 45 finally got its VZ grips today.

Now have to get a set of VZ for the 9mm and a fiber front sight and they will truly be twins!

  9. First - if cases are sticking on the powder/expander funnel, forget the 1000 sandpaper Get the dremel and polish it to a mirror shine, I have did that with everyone of mine on all 550s Not one problem sticking cases

Second- Bullet sounds like it has thicker coating on one side of the bullet ,bullet to big in size or a combination

Third - Graphite is your friend ! Take the primer assembly apart coat all sliding parts with a coat of graphite using a Q-tip then reassemble

If the Mr. Bullet funnel doesn't fix the problem ,then I would switch back to jacketed or plated bullets or try another brand of coated bullets

    Just my 2 cents

  10. Federal SPM primers VV N330 powder, New Winchester brass and the only dream bullet on the market(but to damn high priced) Remington 147gr Match FP

When they were not so high , that combo won me one GSSF match after the other and it was the best of powder-puff loads

the above combo with 3.5 grs N330 !

Oh and Ill go with the Dillon girls to, But I want one for each day of the week !!

The rem 147 match is the only bullet I have found that are very consistent , as far as weight , diameter ! That was back in the day (2000 to 2007) don't know how they are now since I haven't shot any of those bullets since 2010

  11. I have your exact gun. My go to load (for IDPA) is 3.2 of TG under 147gr extremes at OAL of 1.135.

Thanks guys, Lot of good loads here!

BAWunder. I use almost the same load in my g35 with a 40/9 conversion barrel 3.5 grs TG This is the load I'm going to start with!

    Thanks

Lots of good starting loads here!

  12. This is to all the guys here that have A Springfield Loaded 1911 9mm.

I am about to purchase a Springer Loaded 1911 in 9mm.

Just wondering what load everyone that has one is shooting in their guns! I will be keeping the factory recoil spring for now, maybe a trigger job!

I've got several loads worked up that I shoot in a G35 with a 40/9 conversion barrel, Just wondering what everyone else is shooting in their springer's!

    Thanks

    Jeff

  13. I don't use the stuff from the pet store(lizard bedding) The walnut I am using is what is used in auto shop ,used for blasting the blocks and metal parts for cleaning them.(it is pretty course media) The only additive I add to the media is Lyman's turbo charger media activator. works like a charm! And maybe a little dust but nothing like I'm reading about!

  14. Just have a question! What type of media is everyone seeing a lot of dust? I use only walnut, and have noticed a small amount of dust ,But nothing like I'm reading about here. Now when the walnut gets loaded up I have went as far as washing it. 5gallon bucket ,water and media several rinses and then 3 days to dry! Needless to say I don't do that anymore, to time consuming. But I do still use walnut exclusively!

Just wondering why and from what media everyone is getting all the dust!

    Thanks

  15. Kind of like the last little reduction, 7625, pb, and 4756, who's to take the blame? I would put my money on Hodgdon.

I am trying to support other powder companies that has no Hodgdon fingerprints on them so no one company controls the reloaders.

    Sorry just my little rant

I hear what your saying Gary! It is bad when they wont even support the guys who made them all the money!

  16. Try some Universal, burns clean, accuracy is as good as VV in my STI 9mm's and 38 Supers. I used 320, 330 and Universal in some chrono sessions and found that at 5 grains of each the SD was lowest with 330 then 320 and finally Universal. Out of my Bianchi 38 Super they all shot under 2" at 50 yards with 115 Zero's or 115 HAP. Availability can be a bit patchy but it is better than 330 !

How about price? Id give it a try, Since I cant get N330 I have since moved on to titegroup and N340 for 9 and 40. Mainly because I have it on hand!
Graf and Son have 4lbs for about $80.....and it is in stock.

    No N330 only 340,350

  17. Just received this e-mail form Hodgdon, regarding N330 being imported!

The question goes to VV. They should know that, for some reason unknown to me, we do not import N330, We do list N310, N320, N340, N350 but N330 is not a powder on our import sheet. In regard to VV powders, we are really at their mercy. If they do not ship us anything, we have nothing. Whatever we get, we sell.

In the first post, I talked about the e-mails I have received from the VV rep ,The VV rep. Is stating that its up to the importer to decide weather to bring in N330, or not! According to what I received form Hodgdon its up to Lapua to decide it, to put it on the import list or not. So who's telling the truth? I do not know ,But it very interesting that one says him the other says they.

Guess IM going to have to do more research!\

Let all of you know what I find out!

  19. I would like to see N330 again. MG 124 JHP 4.4gn of N330 OAL 1.100 AV 1029 ES 20 SD 7 1" group at 15yards

Did they say who the importer is?

    photo-2.jpg

No he didn't! I would like to know who it is, But I guess they cant divulge that!

I use to print groups like that al the time out of a G34! Rem 147gr match ,with 3.7grs N330,Dont remember FPS but was the softest load I shot out of the G34
