  1. I was talking to my supervisor before thanksgiving and he was telling me about A friend of his that had been laid-off from Remington Arms Company in NY .

Now I have learned that Remington Is right at $1 B in debt. What is happening to the gun manufacturing companies ?

Marlin is now owned by some corporation, (quality has gone down) Remington is owned by some corporation (quality has gone down) Now Learning that Remington is in a deep hole that looks like they wont get out of. We all know about the crap-ola going on with Colt manufacturing. (quality in the can) I know that all of the gun companies are trying to get the product out the door, But some of the quality is not there!

I guess I'm just nit-picking, But When an American icon like Remington is on the edge of going under(which I know they probably wont) Something is wrong !

I know I will probably get flamed for this But lets hear what all of you think.

As a side note, I did also hear that a group of investors had made an offer to buy Remington for $800 to $900 k. So maybe if they wait it out and things get bad enough, They may wind-up getting control of Remington and bringing it back just like Harley Davidson did after AMF had control of them!

Then maybe we will start seeing Remington rifles ,that don't have sloppy bolts!

  2. Ghost21, You were right on the money about Dick's, they sent out a flyer in my paper (Sun Sentinel)Ft.Lauderdale area, 3 days before Thanksgiving showing 2 flavors of 22lr in the 525 value packs-Federal and Remington for $19.98 They also stated that this sale will begin at 5pm THURS THANKSGIVING NIGHT & continue into black Fri.I went there at 6:00 PM after eating and football - ALL GONE in the first 15 minutes, they told me the lines outside were all waiting to get to the Ammo counter when they opened the doors at 5PM, I asked them if they had enough boxes on hand to continue this sale into Black Fri, but they said everything they had was sold out in the first 15 minutes. I wonder how many boxes they had, as they limited purchases to 1 per person.

The one here still has 22s I went to several stores today(Saturday) And they all had 22s. Sportsman warehouse can kiss my ass, they are asking $4.95 for a box of 50 and limit one per person. needless to say they still have a good supply of they on the shelf

  3. The only thing you were right about is that these stores got ammo recently and they are putting it out for sale this week. Did you ask to see their receiving manifests over the past year to see how many shipments they received during the year and had sold?

It isn't like they have been saving up all their shipments over the past two years to put on sale this week.

Lots of my local stores have received CCI Mini Mags and/or Remington Golden Buckets at various times over the past year and they sold them when they got them. They were a bit over priced (Mini Mags were $12.95 per 100 for example), yet they sold them all each time they had them. People are buying it faster than they can make it, it is that simple.

I have heard the same story now from the same guy at Dicks, For the past month ,when I go in there ,I asked about 22s, he told me they had them in the back ,But were saving them.

And now they have them out ! Me and my buddy were there last night and he bought 2 boxes. They had a stack of them out!!

  4. Well guys ! I knew I was right! Lawman's of Columbia SC , Put their 22 ammo out on the sales floor Tuesday afternoon.(I was there when they put it out) The guy told me that It came in that Monday ! Remington 22lr golden bullet $24.99 525 rds. / CCI 22 mini mag $7.95 100rd pack They put out about 15 cases of the Remington and 10 cases of the CCI limit 3 boxes pre customer pre day.

He told me that Remington had sent out a big shipment to retailers, SO the story at dicks about the 3 pallets sounds like its true!

Still sounds funny to me that ,after being in short supply that now, at the holiday it hits ,SO all I can say is looks like everyone will be able to shoot the 22s for Christmas!

  6. It's bothers me to see so many seemingly like minded individuals throwing around pejoratives like "hoarder", "flipper" and the like; what's the difference between a "flipper" and the owner of your local gun store? both purchase inventory with the intent of reselling it at a profit don't they? why then is one the pillar of the community and the other the scum of the earth?

Those who use laws and threats of force to manipulate markets are the enemies of consumers, not market actors engaging in voluntary commerce

AMEN Kneel !!! On that last comment!

  7. I still call bullshit! You can put a pretty pink dress on it But its still a pig in the mud!

And as far as the hoarding, Yes that Is part of the problem ,I see guys on here all the time saying "I FOUND POWDER , PICKED UP 2 CANS EVEN THOUGH I DIDNT NEED IT"

And I call it good business to stretch out a limited supply to keep people coming into the store. My LGS does it. He gets in a case or 2 of .22, he puts a limited amount on the shelf every day, and limits what people can buy, until he is out. If he put it all out, he would get his money back all at once but it's better to get people in the store over a longer period of time. Hopefully it results in more sales than just the .22 the he is not jacking the price up on.

Dick's, not one of my favorite retailers, is doing the same thing. They have about 30 days every year to do probably 30% of their yearly business. Guess when they want to get people in the store?

Both of these examples are marketing in a free market not hording.

Now the guy that has 20k rounds of .22 sitting at the house, and still buys everything he sees, and never shoots any of it, is hording.

For the last 5 years I have tried to keep 2 years supply of powder and primers to feed my shooting habit. As I use it up I buy more and keep the shelf full so I can weather the times of no powder or no primers. Just because I was willing to stock up when supplies were plentiful doesn't mean I am hording. Just watch, squirrels do it every year.

And then he has the same guys coming in everyday he puts them out and buying them up!

A few boxes I cans e but when I hear that a retailer is going to get 3 pallets the day after black Friday ,then I can bullshit!!

That to me is still one set of persons controlling the market! And It seems like it is certain dealers and distributors.

And I can see a small LGS doing that ,But the big retailers, Like dicks are just controlling the market. Mainly because of retailers like dicks the small LGS gets the shaft

  9. They are only doing what they said, saving it for Black Friday. I work at the largest indoor range in the country and we were lucky to get a pallet of 22 ammo about 9 months ago at a high price. We are sitting on it because we don't know how long it might take us to get more. We sell it at the range counter only and not retail. When small lots of 22 come in we put it out and it's gone in a day....the only reason 22 is hard to find is more people are shooting it, they are shooting it in 28 rd ARs and the biggest reason...hoarding! Stop hoarding 22s and pistol powder and it will be readily avaliable again....

That too but when you have 22s stockpiled in the warehouse then its the dealers that are hoarding. Not the customers! Why sit on it? sell it and get your money. What the hell if you cant get another pallet, maybe you can get at least 1 or 2 cases. Hell people want to shoot. Keep the flow going and it WILL loosen up ! To me that's the dealer being the ones doing the gun control!

  10. Don't know if this is the right forum or not! But I found out what has happen to some of the 22s. I was in Dicks Sporting goods about an hour ago. The guy was trying to sell me 9mm and 45acp on sale. I told him If it were 22s Id buy them . He said they had a limited amount for Black Friday. I said how about selling me a box ,"no can do" they are for black Friday.

I said that doesn't do me any good, because I don't get out in that crowd, He told me that Remington was sending them 3 pallets of 22s and they would start putting them out the day after Black Friday sale.

I asked how long they have been sitting on 22s he said they have a stockpile in tier warehouse.

SO Dicks is part of the problem ,Don't know about any of the rest of the Ammo dealers But dick is stockpiling 22s. Now I know.

What is your take on it?

This was the DIcks Sporting Goods on Two Notch Road, In Columbia SC

Hearing this ,Now I'm sure the whole 22 thing has been a scam ,so the dealers can stockpile them.

Palmetto Firearms in Lexington SC Has had Remington 1400 rd. buckets for 90 bucks, I asked today and he's out of them. Said they would try and get some more after this Black Friday is over.

  11. Just wanted to chime in. Sure wished I hadn't sold my G20. I miss my beloved 10mm.

What truly gets me though, Back when the 10mm was just coming out, The 10mm wasn't really a big hit, and most people I talked to about it , didn't like it! But look at the 10mm now !! I bought a used Springfield Omega In 10mm. The first loads I put through it were the Norma (I think)200gr FMJ. After about 500rds all I got was stovepipes , every time. Come to find out those Norma loads cracked the slide. But a trip to Springfield and she got a new top end. Norma was the only load at the time I could find for 10mm till I started loading my own! (I guess because it was so new a caliber)

Just want to say that I'm glad the 10mm is alive and kicking, To bad its so hard to get brass for it right now. I'm looking at getting another G20 Gen 3 hopefully soon!

  12. I was in Lawman's today in Columbia, And I was wondering if anyone can tell me have they lost their Glock dealership.

Usually they have at least one of every popular Glock model, But today they only had 3 models in a little space in the showcase. When they did have the glocks in , they were always marked restricted , Why I'm still not sure. What's restricted about a glock ,Unless its G18.

I just thought it was unusual that their Glock inventory was about gone And showing no signs of coming back.

I would have asked the question ,When I was there But all salesman were busy with customers at the time, So I thought I would ask here.

    Maybe someone knows!

    Thanks

    Jeff

  13. What's your take on Speer 40 brass, good or bad ?

I've had mixed experiences with Speer 9mm brass. Mainly to springy, Like it was over worked, not wanting to hold the bullet and allowing set-back very easily.

    Let hear what you think!

    Jeff
