  1. Ok, so I'm getting closer and closer to getting all my pieces ordered so I can start my venture on to reloading. Picked up the 49th Edition Lyman Reloading manual tonight and perused through it to the 9mm section......I don't get it. There are only 9 different bullet types listed and none of them are close to what I have. I bought the 124gr plated round nose from snscasting.com Closest they show in the manual is the 125gr jacketed hollow point bullet. I thought what I purchased was pretty standard, so why isn't it listed in here? I know I need to get another manual forgive me for not running across town to pick one up, but it's 2* outside and I was lucky to just get out once. Was this a waste of money on this manual and should I just return it for something else? 9mm will be the only caliber I load, at least in ANY foreseeable future. Hints, tips, suggestions!?

    Thanks

Get the Lee second edition, best on the market and ill 2nd ,getting advice here on the 9mm forums

  2. I shot GSSF matches for 6 yrs. In all that time I used VVN330. When the N330 dried up I went to N340 and titegroup. Both work well ! I would just like to know If we will ever see N330 again, It was my most favorite powder of the VV line!

Btw Accurate No.5 Also works well.

  3. Reading about e3 powder. Just wanting to know where is it compared to Accurate No5. I loaded some 40s&w about 5 yrs ago, and can remember what FPS I was getting but it was soft shooting.

  4. A very experienced older friend of mine requested me to post this query ... has anyone seen this behavior?

    ============================================================================

In reloaded Winchester 40 s&w brass (one was 45 acp), I and four other shooters have experienced six blowups. The back part of the case separates from the body leaving a disk of brass proudly showing Winchester 40 s&w laying on the ground. This also includes powder burns on your face, a damaged extractor and a ruined magazine. All the loads were moderate. My two were my reloads, the other four guys bought bulk reloads at gun shows with mixed brass. Nothing but Winchester has blown. All the remaining sleeves of the blown cases slide right out of the chamber showing no sign of excess pressure. This has occurred over a period of a year and a half. We no longer shoot Winchester.

The cases in question are a newer design where the inside bottom near the flash hole is very flat and there is a bead of brazed brass weld attaching the case wall to the case head. Someone said these are being made overseas for Winchester to save cost. Old style cases have a very rounded inside and are stamped from a solid piece of brass. I cut several new cases in half on a band saw and found fracture lines and voids in the metal where the two pieces are joined. They hold together for first firing but are unsafe to reload. The failure rate seem to be one in 4-5 hundred but it leaves a lasting memory, I had to use tweezers to remove all the brass shards from my face, thank you safety glasses.

Has anyone else experienced this, at first you think you made a mistake in loading, but it is a material failure. It can't only be five shooters at one range. No other brand of case has failed.

    ============================================================================

Contact Winchester ,and tell them what you have found, send them pics of the blown brass as well as pics of cases you have sawn in half. If they are shipping these cases out like that maybe its a problem they haven't heard about. IT would be something to follow up on, Maybe you will save the next guys eyes and/or hands.

  5. I don't load titegroup for minor .40, but I hear some use 3.5 as a start - bet you it's nasty dirty at that low level

I'm going with 4,0 titegroup. Want be able to chrono the load till I get back to my parents in NC in a few weeks.

But I have shot some and using a steel guide rod and a ISMI 15lb spring, has a good feel to it when shot. Ill update when I shoot some over the chrono.

    Jeff

    BTW IM shooting a G35

  6. Hey,

Coming to the end of my Titegroup - loading .40 major (and 9 minor too). On the shelf I have Alliant e3 and Unique. I have loaded e3 @ 1.135 to major with 4.5g but it sketches me out because of how fast it is and the general freak out people say about loading Clays hot. I was going to save Unique for my kids 9mm minor, I have done it before but fully understand the reason its called "Flaming Dirt".

I've done searches but most data for e3 is for long-loaded .40 and usually with lead or moly. I'm using MG or Precision 180's.

Lastly, got an opportunity to buy 8# of VV 330, again limited results from searches - is it worth it in our game?

    Thanks!

Mined if I ask what your load was with titegroup for minor loads, I have a pound of it and need a good load for 40 !

  7. A photo of my Springfield Omega! Im not the best at photgrapy, but If you look close you will see that the barrel is totally different from A normal round hooded 1911 barrel,It square,And the slide is a square/tri-top hybrid, It is 10mm, and a great shooter. Its a linkless system and although They are not made anymore by springfield,It is covered by the same lifetime warrant as all their guns!

The noe pic,is a little dark, but gives you an idea of the slide contour.

  8. N330 NO QUESTION !!!! If you can find it,And I cant right now!!!

3.8grsN330+147gr FP(Rem Match)+Fed Small pistol mag Primers= Soft shooting round at about 850FPS.

This is a proven load by me and other fellow GSSF shooters

I also seat the 147s long, as long as I can go without hanging up in the mag(I forget the exact measurments)

If you can find N300 this load will shoot soft in a G17 and G34 (same load)

G34 set-up(for those that want to know)

    G34

    lighten strike ,striker and plunger

    3.5 disconnect(factory glock)

    full length tungsten guide rod(non-captive)

    ISMI flat wire spring (13lb)

This set-up work very well for me for 5 years and with the aimpoint reddot on a hunter carver mount ,was vert fast for GSSF!

Just thought I would chime in on the Vihitavouri powder discussion,It is a great powder,Just wish I could find it(N330)

  9. I have heard of the Blair/holt bill and let me say to my fellow briano guys,we need to stand up and fight. I challenge everyone on this board to make it his/her mission to get at least 3 people signed up for the NRA or other gun rights groups. We need to sweel the ranks of the NRA!! As a good freind said,If we were 10 million strong then the gun-haters would fear us. We did it before when we gave repulican control to the congress during President Bushs term.

Now we need to do it again and as soon as posssible, for the administration thats in the white house now and the congress we have before us. they are going to try every trick they know to do away with lawfull ownership of firearms.

We need to let President Obama know that we are law abiding, responsible gun owners and we are not going to sit by and watch our freedoms given us by the bill of rights taken away.

Call,write,e-mail your senators ,congressmen/women let them know this!!!!!!!!

As that good freind also said,If you are not willing to join the NRA ,or other gun-rights groups then you are not with us(gun owners) you are the enemy. For standing by and letting the gun grabbers take away our rights without a fight.

Im going to get 3 people signed up for the NRA and I challenge everyone on this board to do the same, with numbers in our ranks we can defeat any and every bill the anti-gunners throw our way!

  10. I noticed that the 012 is not offered in carbonfiber on the safariland section of BE.COM. Has safariland stopped offering the 012 and mag pouches in Carbon Fiber and basketweave?

    Just curious.

  11. Recently my department requested two of CCF's frames for T&E with the 1911 grip. This was in response to trying to find a possible solution to the 3rd generation grip frame not fitting everyone's hand the same, and it possibly affecting qualification scores... please dont get me started, I am not a policy maker, just a problem solver(sights, trigger, squeeze, not jerk, duh), and this was not my idea... ANNNNYYYYYWWWAAAYYYY, we received two frames, on in SS and the other Aluminum. We assembed the two frames with our 3rd gen G22's and the only other part we swapped out, other than the frames of course, was, we used CCF's recoil guide/spring assembly. Took the guns to the range and ran 500 rounds through each, the boss said goto the range and shoot the crap out of these, and I said, ummmmm OK!. The SS frame ran flawlessly, no problems of any kind, and this was with zero lubrication on the frame, there may have been some inside the slide we put on it but that was it. This was not intentional but we figured out that we forgot to lube them after we started shooting them and said, lets see how they run. The Aluminum frame ran flawlessly with me the first mag and then handed it off to another shooter who started having failure to go into battery problems, large hands, high thumbs, may have been dragging on slide. Stripped the gun oiled it up and then shot 470 more rounds through it and it ran flawlessly as well. Threw a G35 slide on both frames at different times throughout the 500 rounds each that had a tungsten recoil guide, I think it was a T.H.E., with a non captured spring. Again flawless, both frames. Put my G34 slide on both guns with tungsten guide rod, 11lb non captured spring and 127pf ammo and ran 100 total between both springs, again flawless with the .40 cal ejector in both frames. The 1000 rounds we ran through the two frames was 155gr. Blazer, which chronoed at 192PF out of the G22 barrel.

I like the aluminum frame, the SS is just too heavy, it weighs 2 ounces more empty than my G22 with TLR-1 tactical light and 16 rounds of ammo in it. The additional beavertail area that is on the CCF frames makes the guns more enjoyable to shoot as I cant go 5 rounds without slicing my large hands open with my duty gun.

The other issue the frames solved that I saw was that we have had problems with some members having FTF problems while firing their G22's one handed either unsupported or while using flashlight techniques. We have changed mag springs, recoil springs, at Glocks suggestion and gone to hotter ammunition. Glock says its a ammunition issue and the ammunition company says its a frame flex issue with the glocks and tactical lights. Either way, we did not experience any of the problems we were having with the glocks when we used the CCF frames with tactical lights attached.

Not endorsing anything one way or the other, just sharing my experience with ya.

    Doug

Oh, one other thing, the anodizing on the aluminum frame does not hold up well while wearing a tungsten carbide ring on your strong hand, just FYI :o

Just asking,Are you with a police department? And wouldnt it be a liability issue if you or anyother members carried these pistols built on CCF frames? Sounds like it would be like me using handloaded ammo for self-defense! ( Not a good idea)

    Just curious.

  12. Hey guys I have a question about the Wincester white box ammo at wal-mart(9MM 115gr load) Would it be considered Major or Minor in USPSA?

As stated above it"s minor. but it's as cheap as you can consistently find and it's reliable. I shot it for about a year before I got my Dillon. Make sure you keep your brass. You'll need it when you start reloading.

I already reload, just havent had a chance to do it ,my 2 550s are back in NC. Just wasnt sure about the power factor of Wincester white box! Thanks for all the advice!

  13. My brother, nephew and me will be there likely on Saturday to shoot the match. I really wish other firearm companies would support matches with their products.

Other firearms companies do support shooting matches,They are not called Springfield or para-Ordinace matchs,But they are known as Steel challenge,Bianci Cup,The World Shoot-off,Sportsmans Team challenge and so-on!

Not trying to be an a--, Just tring to clarify that they do Sponsor matches.
