  1. Just received an email response from a tech at Lapua.

I sent him an e-mail asking about the VV powder situation and now that we are seeing many of the VV powders come back to store shelves. I ask him about N330.

In the first response, he told me that their importer has not as yet added N330 to the list of powders that they will import. And asked that I check back frequently to see if there is any change.

In my second e-mail to him, I asked did the importer stop bringing N330 into the country? He responded that at the time of the big powder hunt. that they changed importers and that the new importer has not added N330 to the list of what they call the most popular powders.

My question is ? How does everyone feel about N300 as a powder for 9.40.45? I know that most if not everyone of us have found a suitable powder that will replace VV N330 But I would like to see it come back as an option to powders I already use in 9,40,45.

I was and will be my favorite go to powder ,especially for 9mm. Even though I have since went to N340 or titegroup!

If anyone wants the guys e-mail at Lapua ,Id be happy to provide it!

  2. I've never bought powder or any reloading supplies online. I have a great mom and pop outfit only about half an hour from me. No shipping or hazmat fees but I do have to pay sales tax. He always has pretty much anything I'm looking for. He beats most of the online prices too but I would probably buy from him anyway. I like supporting the little guy. I'm in trouble if he ever decides to retire...he's getting up there in age.

Just a thought. If you are in a position to do so. Buy the business form him if he does retire ! that way you get your supplies and you can also help your fiends in the area out! ( by keeping the mom and pop gun shop open!

  3. I had to butcher up 3 of the National Target Company ST-4's, and then do an old school cut and past, but I finally have what I want.

    Here is the original ST-4:

This is what I pasted back together:

    20151215_194115_zps9xjsnppi.jpg

You get a new scope and get it mounted. You want to go sight it in, so then you put four of them together, rotating them to get this:

    20151215_194041_zpsmgv2ywqp.jpg

You first aim at the big central diamond to see if it even gets on paper at say 50 yards or 100 yards.

Make whatever scope adjustments for windage and elevation, and again aim for the bigger center diamond. And as you get it more dialed in, you can move your aim over to one of the smaller diamonds.

I started out pasting the various parts of the ST-4 targets to a piece of 8.5X11 paper. The local library has a color copier. I guess there is only so much printable area, so the librarian bumped it up to 11X17 size paper, and then I cut it out.

It is kind of a pain, but hey! I now have what I want.

The bonus is that the targets are now small enough to get 3 hole punched and fit into my 3 ring binder of reloading data.

Just a thought, You should check into a local print shop to se what they would charge you to print up some for you. You could tell them if possible to use any blank scarp stock they may have on hand.

I work in the printing business and It is never ant trouble getting targets printed any way I want them. That way you can get the targets you need at the size you want without all the cutting and pasting.

    Just a thought

Better yet find a local mom and pops print shop with a digital printer and furnish the paper and you may get a very good price on the targets

  4. It's not dummy or practice rounds, rather live ammunition.

I had about 1000 round of it for years. IMG_20150710_173014_913_zpssengntz1.jpg

Neck tension was pretty much non existent.

Sometimes they would work, often the cases came apart, neck separation. At times a bullet would move forward in the chamber getting stuck in the rifling and dumping powder inside the receiver if ejected vs being fired.

Last thing to note is that it takes forever to shoot a thousand rounds of it through a .223 single shot contender, about all its good for.

Just what I figured, Those look exactly like the empty cases I found , I knew they were not dummies, Still would like to know what MTS stands for on the head stamp.

If you ask me it looks like the obamnations answer to reloaders

  5. Was at the range this morning and after my session, I went to clean up.

In which I found a pile of 9mm and 45 cases. I also found several 223 cases that I have never seen before. Hoping someone here can shed some light on them.

    The case head stamp reads

    223 REM

    MTS

The case is also has a military crimped in primer!

Sorry the pictures are not good quality ,But they give the general idea what they look like!

  6. Crimped. Throw them away or get a primer pocket swager.

Like I said I did take out the ring on one of the pieces of brass and still couldn't put a primer in it, Unless I forced it. And It may be a crimp ring I'm seeing, So Ill just sit them aside for now, I have to many 45 cases to worry about a few!

  7. I have 3 45 ACP cases they are marked

    FC 98

    45 auto

I was reloading some 45 ACP today when I ran into these cases , I tried to get a good picture of them but my camera was low on battery.

The primer pocket seem to be to small , they are not small primer 45 . They are large primer, When loading on the 550, I noticed that the primer was hard to knock out and that when I went to push the handle to seat a new primer it was very hard, actually I didn't get a primer seated in them . With the force I was going to have to use It would have popped a primer. (using FED LP primers).

Looking at the primer pockets with a magnifying glass I could see a small step that looked like a crimp ring ,But it wasn't ! I removed the ring with a primer pocket reamer ,And the pocket was still tight.

Has anyone noticed this about Federal brass? I have used thousands of Fed brass and never an issue till these !

    Any input would be appreciated

    !

    Thanks

    Jeff

  8. If you can find it !!

N330 is and will be the best 9mm powder you can use for soft loads!

I shot many GSSF matches with the Rem 147gr Match FP bullet. Over 3.7grs of N330 and if I remember correctly OAL was 1.100

I would load the rounds as long as I could in glock 9mm mags and not have them hang up in the mag.( never had a feeding problem with these loads)

I just wish I could find N330 now! It as scarce as hens teeth. I now am using TG . N340, and unique. All work ,But only if I could find the elusive N330!

  9. Just asking the same question again!

Has anyone shot or do you have an STI marauder 2011 pistol?

I would like to know if anyone has one, can tell me how well it shots ,of any problems with it! Just general info on the gun.

I have a chance to buy one .The price on it is 2k after tax. I have looked at the pistol 3 times now and as far as I can tell , this is a new pistol.

I cant se any flaws at all on the pistol inside or out! baring taking the gun apart, which I don't think the LGS will let me do that for inspection. But as far as I can tell by looking over the gun it is NIB Come with 1 140mm mag.

Some have asked do they still make this pistol, STI does show it on their website.

Just wanting to get a little info before I take the plunge

    Thanks

    Jeff

  10. Been outa town guys, The Marauder I saw was new, Not sure if they still make it ,But it is shown on their website. It did have 1 140mm mag. I checked it out as close as I could without taking it apart. And from what I could tell it was a new pistol. Not a scratch on it inside or out ! I know that a good gunsmith can hide a lot stuff ,But from eyeballing the pistol I would say its NIB !

  11. Just needing a little advice!

I looked at a STI 2011 Marauder pistol, with 1 20rd mag at my LGS The price will be a little over 2K after taxes.

My question is ,Has anyone got this pistol? How does it shoot? and Do you think this is a good buy?

I'm thinking very hard about it, But just have to get the wife on-board !

The price is well below the MSRP ! Just would like to know A little more about the pistol before I make the plunge.

    Thanks

    Jeff

  12. Lol 330 hasn't been on the market in forever so I'm assuming he hoarded it

I did talk to a tech at Lapua, And was told by this tech that They still make N330. But isn't on the market because of the current powder situation, That was about a yr. ago. I think because its the best of the best 9mm powders and is being used up for ammo used by our troops. In their issued M9s. Just my 2 cents!

  13. I've used Freedom Munitions 147 gr ammo, which is similar in price to the Stand 1 offering. They're a little cheaper at $218.32 per 1000. Free shipping for orders over $100. The ammo cycled my Glocks fine and shot with decent accuracy. The ammo was subsonic, but definitely not reduced power as the Chubbies are advertised. The Freedom Munitions ammo was able to cycle my guns with a suppressor attached, too.

I save over $100 per 1000 when loading my own reduced power 147 gr loads. My reloads are considerably more accurate and softer shooting than factory/retail offerings. If you can get over the initial equipment expense, reloading is the way to go.

If I were to pay over $200 a 1000 for bullets then I be buying the Remington 147gr Match bullets. I have shot thousands of these and they IMO are the best of the best 147gr bullets on the market!

Midway has the Remington's right now for $21.99 per 100 ,Yes you would have to pay shipping, But since Remington's are the best why not go with them if you have deep pockets!

  14. On a progressive press, task lighting is critical to looking in every case.

    +1 or +2 or +3.

I am a recent convert to lighting (Yes, it was a few squibs).

Wouldn't reload on my SDB without the little light ($25).

What kind of light you using on your SDB Jack? I just invested in a SDB
