  1. I use Magtec large pistol primers in my .45acp. No problems with them at all. The bonus is that they are about £10 cheaper (per 1000) than the others.
  2. I am also a big Dillon fan and would have liked a Dillon tumbler. they are not available over here in the UK and to have one shipped to me from Dillon would cost more in shipping that the tumbler costs! I have just bought a Lyman turbo pro 1200 with some treated media. I'm impressed how clean it has got my fired cases, they are shiney as new. I put 300 cases in each time and they get 4 hours of tumbling time.
  3. Hi, Airsoft is popular here in the UK. I get all my guns and parts from John Reddington. He is the owner of this Company. http://www.eliteairsoftuk.com/ Drop him an e-mail. He may have what you want/need.
  4. Hi, Just phoned Pinnacle guns and gave Mark my CC number. One cylinder release on it's way! Thanks.
  5. Thanks for the help guys. I've sent an e-mail to Pinnicle guns for info. Looks just what I'm after.
  6. Not too sure what the correct term is for it, but I'd like to change the cylinder release catch on my Taurus .45acp revolver. When I'm reloading, sometimes I fail to get a correct grip with my thumb and struggle to get the cylinder out. I'd like to fit an 'oversized' button. I'm told a s&w one will fit with a little bit of modification. Has/does anyone use an aftermarket extended release catch? If so, can you let me know where you bought it from and how much? I'm after SS to match the gun. I've had a quick look on Brownells web site but it is mainly descriptions on there, and as I'm not sure what It's correct title is I may end up ordering something I shouldn't!! Thanks.
  7. I have not used Red Dot. But it could be position sensitivity: if the powder is closer to the primer, it ignites more readily than if it is closer to the bullet. I do not believe that ~4 grains of any powder in a 45acp case should have a problem, but I thought I would mention it. To test: lower the muzzle, raise up to firing position, and fire. Then tip the muzzle up (pushing the powder back to the primer), lower to firing position, and fire. Difference? Then there is a problem. My experience was light loads of 231 in a 38 spec revolver. Lee Lee, I tried what you suggested about lowering and tipping the muzzle before firing. It didn't seem to make any difference whichever way I did it. I must be getting an 'oddball' load every now and then. I hope to get my hands on some Clays soon and will be trying that.
  8. UK fuel prices. The petrol station close to me has just put the price of a litre of diesel fuel up to 98.9p. Approx 4.5 litres to the UK gallon = £4.45. ($7.47) Our wonderful government place a 'fuel duty' onto the cost THEN add VAT (sales tax) to it. Where else in the world do you pay tax on tax? If anyone is thinking of coming here, can I respectfully sugest you don't, you won't like it! Everything is expensive, the weather is awful and you can't own your own pistols!! Ok, I feel better now, rant over
  9. Hi Mike, didn't know you posted here ! Thanks, I'll take you up on your offer. I'll ring you at home next week and see when we are shooting the same airsoft comp so I can pick them up from you. Just let me know what you want for them. I have not used Red Dot. But it could be position sensitivity: if the powder is closer to the primer, it ignites more readily than if it is closer to the bullet. Lee Lee, That's interesting. I'm going to the range tomorrow so I'll try what you mentioned.
  10. I've looked around and the lightest .45acp bullet I can find is a 200 grain lead SWC. Is it worth it for the 30 grain drop in weight do you think? Plus if I need to throw a reload in, RNL will load smoother than SWC. One other thing I noticed when I was shooting my steel load the other night, the sound of the round going off sometimes differed. It was that noticable than some one commented on it from the club room. (My range is indoors, the club room is the next room along) This was with red dot. I use a Dillon RL550B and the powder thrower is brand new. I'm thinking that red dot doesn't meter too well? When ever I check the powder weight it is within 1 or 2 tenths. Would 1 or 2 tenths make the noticable sound difference?
  11. Thanks for the Clays load info. I'll be getting some of it soon and I'll let you know how I get on. Re: the steel load. It is for a speed steel comp to be held at Bisley as part of the Phoenix meet. This is a large venue by London and is to encourage the use of long barreled revolvers, .22 s/a, centre fire (pistol) calibre rifles etc. The organisers require a minimum of 750fps to ensure that the lead bullets disintergrate on impact. Plated and FMJ are not allowed. The plates are fixed to posts and you must make it 'ring' to count, set against the clock.
  12. Thanks for the info and advice. I did the tests along the lines you mention. I've settled on two loads. First is for IPSC with a 230grn plated tmj and 4.4 grns of Red dot. Av FPS 787. (P.F 181) Second load is for steel plates using a 230grn RNL and 3.8 grns Red dot, which gives an Av. FPS of 767. (P.F 176) I'd like to try somes Clays as it gets a good report on here. I've just checked on the burn chart d/l from the Vhit web site and it's showing it to be at the top of the tree! Any idea of a start load since I'm using a 12" barrel?? Thanks.
  13. wow!, Certainly a lot of different professions here. Didn't think I'd get this much response to my question. I'm always interested in what other folk do for a living, must be the bosey nastard in me!! Cheers all.
  14. For a living? Just interested and a bit nosey I guess! I'm a self employed central heating/boiler eng. You?
  15. Tennents! I'm a self employed central heating eng. I work for quite a few landlords. I'd phoned a landlords tennants in the week and arranged to visit them first thing this morning (sat) for the annual gas service and safety check as they both work till late in the week. I don't normally work Saturdays but made an exception today. Turned up at 9.30am as agreed, blinds drawn, no car on the drive, no answer to the door, no answer to my phone calls! Wasted my Saturday morning that did. Tennents!
  16. I'm new to .45acp reloading. I'm currently working on a load for IPSC and steelsfor use in my .45acp Taurus revolver. I'm using a plated 230grn RN and 230 grn rnl. I've played around with Red dot but would like to try Clays that you all give good reports about. I've just looked at a dealers price list and it is available over here in the UK, but it also lists Clays Universal and Clays International. The universal is £5 dearer. Can anyone explain the difference ? Ta!
  17. Renny Thanks for the info. It seems it may just be a matter of practice. Nice to see I'm not that far off ! I'm going to reload some 'practice/dummy' rounds this weekend so I can 'dryfire' practice my reloads.
  18. I've just bought a .45acp Taurus revolver here in the UK. I've always shot semi-autos before the handgun ban. The reloading part of revolvers is feeling very weird at the moment. I'm left handed and reload like this, push cylinder release with my left thumb, transfer the gun to my right hand, use my right thumb to open the cylinder, right forfinger to drop out the fired moonclip use my left hand to load a fresh moonclip use my left hand to close the cylinder and finally transfer the gun back to my left hand. Does this sound/look right? as it feels real stange after 25 years of semi-autos!!
  19. I bought a second hand Dillon RL550 last year.(an original 550 - not the B model) the threads on the primer housing stripped yesterday. Emailed Dillon and a new one is on the way already. I didn't even have to pay for the shipping. First rate product from a first rate Company. We need a Dillon dealer here in the UK !
  20. I've just bought the pocket version CED electronic scales. I'm very pleased with it. I've calibrated it once when I first got it with the supplied weight, not had to rezero it since. I think it's the smaller brother of the Dillon badged digital scale.
  21. Thanks for the tips. I was planning on shooting and scoring if we could use a pc. I like the idea of 'best of three', gives everyone an excuse to put more rounds down range! (allways a good thing!) I'll post how I get on if/when I run it. Cheers.

    Man V Man

I'm thinking about running a Man V Man comp. at my local club using the long barrelled revolvers we are legally allowed to own here in the UK. I've looked at the "J" ladder in the rule book for the Man V Man shoot off at the end of the Major comps, but it looks complicated!. Does anyone know of a computer scoring system that could handle this? or failing that, does anyone have any experience of running one of these who could give me a few tips?
  23. I've got a Taurus model 456 in .45acp. The standard thickness moonclips that shooters use in their Smith & Wessons etc are too thick for my Taurus. We have to use custom made ones which are 18'thou thinner. I am thinking about having my cylinder machined so I can use the more popular ones. ( the custom made moon clips cost me $7.50 each!)
  24. I've been riding bikes on and off for longer than I've been shooting. My last one was a Kawasaki zx10r - 1000cc sports bike, a race machine for the road if the truth be told. Unfortunately, I kept crashing the dam thing so I sold it just before the winter set in last year. I still love bikes but I doubt if I'll be getting another. Can't really justify paying out for something I only use on weekends for 7/8 months of the year.
  25. Another 'Thanks'! for the Excel spreadsheet. That will come in very useful over the years to keep an acurate check on my reloading costs. I've used it already.
