  1. I’m trying to get into the habit of having 4 on my belt and one in my back pocket, 10 rounds each. At make ready, I load one from the farthest back mag holder, then put that mag back into the holder and put the 10-round mag from my pocket into the gun. At start I have 10+1 in the gun and 39 on my belt. I thought about putting 11 into a mag and using that one at make ready, but I don’t want to get into the habit of having an overloaded mag. Might add a 5th mag holder for those “unloaded with all mags on belt” starts.
  2. As a fellow newb to this - you’re way overthinking it (as you admitted in your earlier thread). Look, you don’t want to reload ammo, so sticking with 9mm is probably your best bet. You can go Production or Limited with zero additional investment, just depends on how you feel about reloads and stage planning. If you stay in Production, you don’t have to worry about the major/minor point disadvantage. You can focus on the fundamentals like moving fast with good accuracy. I considered shooting Limited just so I could load the mags up, but I have no interest in adding .40 to the stable and when I get better at this (or if, I suppose) I don’t want to be at a disadvantage by shooting minor. So I decided to stick with Production. IMO, you need to just pick one and commit to it. There are enough folks shooting Production in my area that I have plenty of competition (and I’m slow as hell, so I have lots of room for improvement). You’ve been shooting Limited and seem to have reservations about continuing in it. Try Production, work on reloading on the move, and have fun with it. Have someone video you shooting a stage, it’s eye-opening (and in my case, a bit depressing). Get good at Production and if you feel later like you want another challenge, try Carry Optics. One of the great things to me about USPSA is that we have so many options with regard to divisions and equipment, but as noted it can lead to analysis paralysis. Stop trying to decide which division will be “easier” to do well in, or in which one you’ll have an edge. It’ll probably be a while before you’re really competitive in ANY division. Go out, commit to a division, run what you’ve got, and don’t worry about what anyone else is shooting or doing.
  3. Hornady 55gr soft-points are a great all-around bullet. Just as accurate (or better) than the FMJ and decent for small game and such.
  4. I’m looking at that thinking, “Hey, that gun looks familiar...” Did you get the dot issue sorted out?
  5. Lots of knowledge and quite a few Texans. Where are you located?
  6. So could I shoot my Hi-Power in Production, then? Or is there a way to distinguish a 9mm 1911 from other single-action 9's?
  7. No kidding...I did, so is that the kind of thing that happens automatically or do I need to ask the MD from the first match to submit it?
  8. Well, I guess Jessica0423 is our new satanic overlord.
  9. I shot this one yesterday at my second-ever USPSA match. 21.52 seconds, 13A/9C/2D, 94 points. 4.368 HF, good for 44.8%. (Production, 92fs) At the first match, the classifier was Can You Count; the score for that one won't go to USPSA as I wasn't a member yet, but I seem to be trending toward a C classification to start.
  10. Breakdown for the local match this Sunday; Production is almost even with Open, close to Limited, but they're all behind CO. Not sure what the numbers have historically been but it's not as if (for this match, anyway) Production is suffering too badly. Limited 18 Open 16 Production 15 Revolver 3 Single Stack 4 Pcc 12 Carry Optics 28
  11. I suppose the USPSA could stop putting guns like the Shadow 2 on the Production list. If it's being "produced" just to game the Production rules, is it really a Production gun?
  12. Might as well eliminate CO altogether, allow dots in Production, and remove the capacity restriction. Merge the all-Minor divisions. I'm a new shooter but I'd say leave it be. If someone wants to get into the sport without a huge outlay of money, they have options - shoot Production with some cheap mag holders (I'm using the dual-mag holder that came with an XD9 and two USGI pouches), or shoot Limited minor and carry fewer mags. If you have a gun with an optic, shoot CO. If you don't want to be at a disadvantage shooting minor, stick in Production or CO. If you stick with it and want to get competitive, you can stay in the minor-only divisions with what you've got or move up to Limited or Open and shoot major. Speaking only for myself, I'm fine with changing mags - it's a skill to learn. I can see myself sticking with Production for the foreseeable future and maybe getting into CO at some point, but as someone who has reached the point where I don't feel like adding another caliber I'm not going to get into shooting major. And with two minor-only divisions to play in, I don't need to.
  13. I believe there's an aftermarket trigger for it (Apex, maybe?) that's supposed to be a considerable improvement over the stock staplegun-esque trigger.
  14. I only have a couple hundred rounds through mine (Foxtrot Mike upper, SBR'd lower) but they've been pretty reliable. As to the issue with being hard to seat with the bolt closed, I've heard that if you trim more off that tab in the back (the one you cut to set mag capacity when you first install the Endomag into the mag shell), that helps with that issue. Haven't tried it myself, though.
  15. I shot Production in my first match and was going back and forth on whether to shoot Limited for my next match. I’d be shooting a 92fs either way (run what ya got) so the only difference would be the reloads; I’m not even worried about being competitive against folks shooting major. I decided to stick with Production. Yes, not having to worry about reloads as often would allow me to focus on learning to move fast and simplify stage planning. But I intend to keep shooting minor (No desire to add new calibers to the stable), and at some point I would like to be competitive in my division, so I figured it’s either Production or CO, and I have no O’s. I’d rather focus on getting good in Production than get good in Limited and then have to rethink stage planning and add more reloads after I get tired of being beat up by people shooting major. Maybe be at some point I’ll get into CO, but I’ve got plenty to learn before I worry about that.
  16. M160 is where I shot my first match in October. Planning on hitting the one there at the end of November as well.
  17. North of Dallas, near Plano. No shortage of matches around, which is nice.
  18. Hi all, been looking into getting into USPSA for a while and shot my first match a couple weeks ago. I’ve been shooting my whole life but haven’t done any competition since a few years of highpower in the early 2000’s. This forum kept coming up when I searched for info so...here I am.
