To eliminate the gap between the barrel extension and the inside of the upper you can cut a piece of SS rolled shim stock to fit over the circumference of the barrel extension (leaving a gap for the locating pin). Probably .001 stock would work, .002 might be too tight. You will need to tap in the barrel. If you ever remove the barrel you will need to pound it out from the extension end. Andy and his crew did a fantastic job setting up and running the match. Rockcastle were gracious and appreciative hosts. As with any large match there will be hiccups. The weather situation was more than a hiccup (insurance policies call it an Act of God) but the alternatives as to how to proceed were presented and determined by a vote of shooters. Any shooter disappointed with the outcome is entitled to their opinion and can "vote with their pocketbook" as to participating in next year's match. However, I have plenty of shooting buddies that couldn't get into this year's match that will be more than pleased to take an unhappy shooter's spot in next year's match. Thanks again to Andy, Tammy, Mike, RO's, Sponsors, Rockcastle, 4H etc. for making this third BRM3G the most fun match you can shoot.

Jim's advice is sound given your latest post. Could be the gas port/gas block alignment or debris in the gas tube.

Have you tried a different magazine? Or does this occur with all mags?

I've found two things that keep an FN SLP running smoothly: 1. Keep the bolt assembly wet - lube it regularly. 2. Polish the top half of the chamber opening. There is an edge there that can snag some brands of shells as they are fed. A bullet shaped felt polishing tip coated with Flitz or Semi-Chrome and a dremel tool fixes that. You need to break and smooth the edge.

FN SLP use Standard Invector chokes. I've used a modified and an improved modified. Check your pattern with the modified first and shoot some long range slugs for accuracy. The "test" I use: if it knocks down plate rack plates at 25 yards with 7 1/2 shot it's good to go.

How about Sgt. York retro? Shooting at pop-up "German helmet" plates from a trench at 200 yards with a .30-'06 Model 1903 Springfield. And you have to gobble.

Are you using the correct sized primer tubes - small vs. large? Is it happening to a particular brand/size of primer?

Assuming you don't miss a shot, need slugs or drop a shell while reloading, yes. An additional stripper or some type of sidesaddle type setup on the gun would be good to have IMO. Ron B.

I had the same problem when I put a LDA ghost ring sight on my SLP Mark 1. I replaced the front sight with a TruGlo and a .340 riser block from Brownells. Been down that road before and it's just not possible right now. The IOR has a 35mm tube with a Larue mount there is just not enough clearence between the bottom of the adjustment ring and the top of the flattop on the rifle. Plus the adjustment ring is tapered on both side and there is nothing really for grab onto. It want's to walk off either side. That scope will be a tuff nut to crack. Chris C. Yes, Virginia, there really is an IOR throw lever. This one was 1 of 5 anodized aluminum prototypes built on a CNC lathe by a friend of a friend who owns a precision machine shop. It's held on with two allen screws and has a set screw. He might be convinced to sell these if there was enough volume.
