  1. So who all supplies the ACT-MAG under their name? Novak, Nighthawk, STI, S&W, are those all ACT-mags? is there anybody else. Tim
  2. Bob, I've read that their was a problem with the early ones but that they have improved them? not so?. Tim (I used to shoot with you in the early nineties at a range out past San Bernardino right off the freeway)
  3. Thanks all for the info. it sounds like they are a good design maybe just not as durable as needed for competition. Tim
  4. I primarily shoot Open but am putting together a SS gun and gear for the occasional SS only match. I have a S&W 1911 that came with 2 of the ACT mags and they have ran 100%. I've bought a few more and have Dawson alum. base pads coming for them, the gun won't be shot a whole lot I guess I'll just keep a close eye on them. Tim
  5. I've read nothing but good reviews on the 8 round 45ACP ACT mags but it doesn't seem like anybody uses them. Their was some cracking on the feed lips I think on some real early ones but I think they cleared that up a few years ago. Tim
  6. I was wondering if you had the lens for your dominate eye ground to the focal length of the front sight, and your non dominate lens for distance do you wear these glasses all match long or do you put them on shortly before shooting a stage? Tim
  7. I have extended controls on all of my Glock match guns (3) and have never had any problems. Tim
  8. Open shooters shoot JHP or CMJ because the part of the bullet that is exposed to hot gases is covered thus less likely to lead up the comp. You don't have that problem in production about the most major concern for you should be what feeds the most reliably in your gun and what is the most accurate. Tim
  9. The way the firing pin safety works on the S&W is a neat setup if you have to have one, it works with the grip safety and doesn't effect the quality of the trigger. I took mine out because I wanted to pin my grip safety and you can't do it with that assembly installed. Tim
  10. I got a no gap Ice for my S&W 1911 it's a nice piece I really like it. They B.O. my base pads for ACT mags, they are being anodized and should ship in a couple of days. I blended the magwell to the frame it looks cool I'm excited about this setup. Tim
  11. I was picking between the MSA Sordins and Pro ears and in the end, picked the Pro Ears. What didn't you like about the Sordins? The cups on the MSA's are a little small and they just aren't as comfortable as the Pro Ears, I had the Pro Ear Slims and I didn't notice them being to bulky. I sometimes start to get a headache near the end of a match with the MSA's if I switch to plugs it goes away. The recover and sound quality on the Pro's I think is quicker and better but if they still use those N batteries they are expensive and don't seem to last very long. I'm not sorry that I got the MSA's they are good quality hearing protection I'm going to try the gel pads and see if that makes a difference. Tim
  12. Try the North American Versatile Hunting Dog Association, Test/Training Coordinator Gabby Aubrey 951-473-5589 for starters. If they don't have exactly what your looking for I'm sure they can steer you in the right direction. Tim
  13. I loaned mine to Gary Coleman to use as a Sceptre when he played the lead in The Greek In All Of Us at the Semi Valley Playhouse. The bastard never gave it back to me, I'm sure he incorporated it into his tool belt for his security gig.
  14. I had a Briley alum. guide rod that did the same thing, I posted on here got several suggestions but none of them cured the problem. I even got another one from Briley and it did the same thing so I sent it off to my gunsmith to install while installing a new slide. A friend of mine that spent a lot of time at the gunsmiths shop said that he had to take down the button at the very rear most part of the rod because it was binding in the frame. Mic. the old one at that point and compare it to the new one. Tim
  15. I have the MSA Sordin Supreme Pro and I like them very much, but if I was buying another pair today I think I would go with Pro Ears. I had an older pair and they were good and I'm sure they are better now although I did have to send them in for repair a couple of times. Tim
  16. I would take 1. STI 2011 open gun 2. Glock G35 3. Kahr PM9 and about three different top ends for both the 2011 and G35 Tim
  17. I was shooting a jungle run and the clip board operator was running about 20 feet behind the RO yelling tape em up! tape em up! The stage was kind of a bottle neck and they were trying to keep things moving but I thought their was range equipment failure and pulled up. Once I realized what was going on I kept shooting but I lost a few of seconds, it sucks when people don't realize the ramifications of their actions.
  18. Most 9mm Major guns are built on 38 Super slides, don't weld on your slide that shouldn't be a problem. Put in your new springs clean your extractor tunnel and put your thumb on your extractor put it on the bench with the hook up and push hard. The Aftec is harder than hell and you won't think you did anything but doing that made my not much gun 100% reliable, this tip was given to me by a GM that we all deal with and is very knowledgeable. In my gun I would do this every third match and it worked great but if I was you I would do the springs first and see what that does.
  19. Corey my experience with the Dawson magwell inserts on 3 of my guns that have them is that they last a really long time. In fact I don't know if they ever stop working they just get beat up and look ugly more of a cosmetic thing than an emergency thing.
  20. Great information, I've been buying new powder measure's.
  21. Jerry started a toilet paper co. that failed miserable, his paper wouldn't take shit from anybody.
  22. +1 more. I sat right in the Optometrists chair with my pistol in my hand and he flipped lenses until I could see serrations. I have my right eye focused to my FS and my left eye to infinity.
  23. What you are showing is for the mag well with the gap what if I wanted to run the non gap mag well with Power Mags? Thanks Tim
  24. I have the Briley alum. rods in both of my open guns I wanted to have a little more weight out front if I can get away with it. Thanks for all your suggestions please keep them coming. Tim
  25. I have a S&W 1911 that I want to set up to shoot a couple of SS only matches we have around here every year. I need some feedback on some things I want to do. 1; I need some mags, I was going to get CMC Power Mags any good? 2; I'm leaning towards a Dawson Ice mag well, what insert would I need? can the mag be modified to be used with no gap insert? is the base pad long enough to seat the mag. 3; I have med. sized hands and have a hard time hitting the stock mag. release button, is the one that is 1/16" longer that much better or does the type with the larger button or the pad that sweeps back make more sense? What is a good brand or they all pretty much the same? 4; I had a 1911 with a two piece full length guide rod and it never gave me any trouble but I've read that some people have had them loosen or come apart, should I stay away from the two piece? And what is a good brand? I have more questions but don't want to appear to needy, any help would be appreciated. Thanks Tim
