  1. Fred delivered one of his incredible F2's this week attached to a cryo'ed stainless DCM 20" barrel. Soon as Sluggo gets back from some place in Arizona he's gonna help bolt it into a new upper with one of Dan Young's lightened hard-chromed carriers. Then we'll see if we can make it shoot.
  2. Got a real Sterling that holds 41 with gray MagPul follower and standard spring and works fine. And a PMI that holds 40 with gray Magpul and standard spring and works too. And just realized there was a stage last weekend I could have used a 40 and saved a reload...
  3. At the time we installed a Surecycle extended mag tube we added a Clark magazine bracket. Took the sling ring from the Surecycle, cut off the ring, opened up the stud with a 5/32" bit and used the stud to hold the Clark support together. Put a couple wave washers under the stud and got the hole timed right to accept an Uncle Mike's swivel. Ta-daa. ETA I just lied. We got the sling stud from a KNS kit from Brownell's. It was all in the same parts kit and I got the sacks confused.
  4. Got a friend looking for a ten-round mag tube. Anybody know where to get or look for one?
  5. Benny and Kurt, do either of you guys lighten bolt carriers for other people? Like moi?
  6. I have a 21" barrel on order with a guy in North Carolina who is reputed to have a good relationship with Benelli's law enforcement group. My order has been there for almost a month and he has not received his shipment from the Benelli factory. Upside is I got lucky and stumbled onto a NIB 1993 Heckler Koch/Benelli M1 S90 Field with 21" vent-rib barrel at a local gun shop. Owner got it years ago thinking turkey hunters would be interested but they want 870's and 1100's. I got it for $500 so now a shooting buddy has taken over my 21" barrel order hoping Benelli will deliver. Good luck.
  7. DMW requires ordering their threaded collar separately. Surecycle sells their extension tube as a kit with the collar. Price comes out virtually the same with either manufacturer. My friends have DMW and I got a Surecycle last week. Both are good. Add a Clark bracket for an 1100, tighten it down and you're good to go.
  8. Kurt, your experience and time spent explaining are greatly appreciated. I have one other question if you please: How does Benelli's "Light Load Recoil Spring Kit" fit into using a lightened carrier? Thank you.
  9. I would like to try a lightened Benelli bolt carrier. Don't quite understand the finer points but am willing to give one a try In my head I'm still attempting to reconcile the fact a heavier charging handle seems to make a Benelli cycle more reliably with the benefits to be gained by a lightened carrier. Sometimes 'ya just gotta cut-and-try.
  10. I've got to think about what you say. The action of the "inertia spring" as it relates to unlocking the bolt is the point of my question. As I understand it there is a forward motion of the carrier as the inertia spring compresses before the bolt unlocks and the carrier moves to the rear. Everything else you say I understand and agree. It's the effect a carrier with less mass has on the forward movement I've got to ponder.
  11. Aw thanks, George. Re-gear? And I just bought a new "pre-ban" Benelli... I held one of the Saiga-12's at a Dallas Market Hall gunshow in January. Dealer had five on his table for sale. Holding it and seeing the price it occurred to me then changes were in store.
  12. um, What about revolvers? Notice the word "pistol". I used it intentionally. I did not use "handgun" which would make your question pertinent. Now you're talking. This is the real issue. Extending your logic, the question will become, "How will fixed magazine shotguns be kept competitive with replaceable magazine guns?" The reloading difference is functionally quite similar to the difference between revolver and pistol. I don't have enough experience to comment intelligently on how the game will assimilate replaceable magazine shotguns.
  13. Would you walk around with an empty pistol magazine? Also, see Shotgun rule 8.1.1.3. Not the same issue. ALL pistols reload with replaceable magazines. This is a shotgun issue. The point in question is reloading the magazine not replacing the magazine. Reloading the magazine on the clock is the point whether or not the magazine is replaceable.
  14. So if an external magazine is all this is why shouldn't you be required to reload the magazine on the clock just like reloading an attached magazine?
  15. So just how does a lightened bolt carrier enhance the function and reliability of a Benelli M1? Benelli's bolt carrier doesn't function the same as a bolt carrier in a M16/AR15. A certain reciprocating mass is necessary for a Benelli to function reliably. Seems to me a lighter Benelli bolt carrier would require a heavier load to adequately compress the spring inside the bolt carrier and that spring has to be compressed first before the rest of the action will work.
  16. The guys designing/building this shoot at one of our local ranges. They're good to talk about the devices. The system engineering manager's card is sitting on my desk. The optic is pretty cool but it's not as sweet as the pure solid-state device.
  17. While talking with the owner of my small town gunshop last weekend he mentioned there was a shotgun he wanted to move. He's had it for a while and nobody seems interested. Thought turkey hunters would buy it but they are more interested in 1100's and the like. So he brought this out Is this any good to build on?
  18. Living as I do in the Shade Tree Ghettotm of north Texas it makes sense to let Benny do it. Group I shoot with requires long arms have a carry sling. Don't want to get DQ'ed for dumping a gun in the dirt. Will keep lookng but Benny seems the best plan.
  19. Will the carbon fiber hold threads? Or does it need to be reinforced on the under side? ETA NEVER MIND! THOSE WEREN'T THREADS I WAS LOOKING AT! Looks like the base glues to the carbon fiber. Hmmm... http://www.uncle-mikes.com/adtemplate.asp?...bcatky2=2000188 Thank you.
  20. Well the thread title about sums up the question. How CAN a carry sling be mounted to a Briley Speedoption forend? Yankee Hill has a swivel that might work. Anybody got the good answer?
  21. "Pigtail" is what you're thinking of. Pricey at $90 but fixes some gas-system problems. Will have an effect in this application. Link to a source with which I have no connection.
  22. Operative term is "Maximum Effective Point-Blank Zero". Dependent on target size, external ballistics and sight offset. Once determined, zero points can be calculated with precision.
