  1. Genius. Wisdom like this is why I don't frequent this site. The round in question is factory WWB. Less than ten rounds out of a new rifle to fragment the bolt. Bolt went back to vendor. Vendor did not manufacture or finish the bolt but sold it as part of an assembly. Vendor did failure analysis and reported hydrogen embrittlment as the proximate cause. Got two new assemblies in return. They are sitting in my spares box for use on somebody else's rifle. Try again.
  2. Hydrogen embrittlement. Bad heat-treat. Expensive bolt from big name source. Went to Colt MP C bolts and never another problem.
  3. Prior to Ft. Benning this guy had four 21" vent-rib M1 barrels on his shelf. Brand new from Benelli. Phil Flack p.f. custom guns 18 Sunset Drive, Asheville, NC 28806 (828)252-9487 office, (828)231-9487 cell (828)254-7108 FAX MBE out
  4. What a useless mix of features. FFP reticle on a low-power scope, stadia that get so small on low-power they can't be seen against a moving background making the optic useless for the purpose it is intended and illumination too dim to be effective. Mine is going back to the custom shop to see if they will make it SFP or at the very least bolder stadia. Other than the fact the optic is functionally useless in its intended role it's a fine, well-built scope.
  5. Dallas Reloads speed varies quite a bit. If you like speed some of theirs is fast. Last 1K of 55gr FMJ ran 3350 through an Oehler 35P. Pretty hot stuff. Mine didn't blow primers but heard from other shooters that had problems. ** Need to edit that last. Mine did blow ONE primer that locked up the trigger on my SBR. Easy enough to pull the trigger pins and clean out but I put a DPMS "rug" in the bottom of the lower to keep that from happening again. **
  6. Savage 12 Long Range Precision Varmint (LRPV) in .204 Ruger. Right-bolt left-port, three bolt receiver, HS aluminum bedding-block stock, small ejection port and best factory barrel.
  7. 6.5-300 WSM is called the Leopard. Speed burner. Easiest route is .270 WSM cases and Redding Comp dies. Redding sells a solid competition seating die that you run your chamber reamer in then send back to Redding for finishing. Going to be the next build. mbe
  8. Darst won all stages. His 500 match points were ahead of second place finishers 275 points.
  9. Navistar International CXT pickup. Ford Super Duty dually bed on an International semi-tractor crew chassis. You got a half-ton, want a three-quarter ton and get the drools over a one-ton? How about a SIX TON bed capacity. I drive by the Navistar International factory in Garland Texas every week and there's usually one of these parked on a ramp out front. Doesn't Barnyard have one?
  10. When are shootersw gonna figure out how to turn a CompM 45 degrees and use the battery compartment for a cqb iron sight? If you are using an Aimpoint why in the hell are you looking for a CQB reference anyway? It is a CQB sight Yeah, but when the battery compartment is ON TOP you don't even have to look THROUGH IT, just sight over the top of the battery compartment. For me it's fast. Try it sometime.

  12. Yesterday the shellplate on my 650 gave up the ghost. One of the case retaining rings fractured and would spit a case at the priming station. It was 4pm Saturday December 23rd. Called Dillon to see if there was a message on their answering machine saying when they would be back after the holidays. SATURDAY AFTERNOON TWO DAYS BEFORE CHRISTMAS AND THEY WERE THERE! Offered to pay for the part I broke but they said its warrantied and they are sending a replacement. I'm a Dillon customer for life.
  13. My hearing is getting so poor all I can hear is the radio and the click of an empty gun.
  14. Bill, I just sent you a response to Fred's offer. I hope it is acceptable. Please advise. Thank you.
  15. Bill, thank you for your message. I am sending a response. mbe
  16. Geez, Jim doesn't clamp ONE straight (out of 300 or so) in his cabinet CNC and this is what we get Fred has been saying that if there is something wrong with it, send it back. Hell, he sold the whole first run saying if you don't LIKE it, send it back...there were no returns. We experimented with 7", 14.5", 16", 18", and 20" guns. Semi and full auto. Stacks of other, lesser, comps...and the F2 came out from all testing (as well the results from the ones Fred and his cronies gave away to top shooters/gunsmiths) as the best commercially available comps on the market. At least according to the folks willing to try them, that is Alex Hi Alex. I have had THREE F2's and they are all out of alignment. Too much runout. I still have two of them. Second one has in excess of 0.070" of runout. So far out it gets bullet strikes when the burr on the inside of the spigot started to turn under. It caused different weight bullets to shoot to different POI. If sights are aligned for 77SMK's then 69SMK's group 1 1/2" left, high-speed 55's group 5 inches left of that and low-speed 55's group six inches left of the high-speed 55's. Also throws the expected flyers when they hit the muzzle. Third one measures in excess of 0.030" out. It pegs the dial indicator both ways. By measuring the diameter of the spigot it appears that hole is sized to account for the runout. The two I have now measure 0.272" and 0.254". I like Fred's design and holding the part in my hand it's a piece of art. The manufacturing process needs to be better controlled however. We are going to attempt to apply hydraulic pressure to the third F2 to see if it can be bent closer into alignment. I will gladly buy a F4 to try if I can be assured the runout is within acceptable limits. I don't expect 0.001" but certainly less than 0.005".
  17. Are the bore and mounting threads aligned on these? I still want to run one of Fred's compensators but need one that is straight.
  18. Unless the rifle is new, look inside the upper to inspect the condition of the rear of the gas tube. The gas tube is a wear part that when worn/eroded can cause failures as you describe.
  19. Following the above, if the shellplate is clean and functioning properly you may need to re-align the platform with the toolhead. Use Dillon alignment tool #13713 and follow directions.
  20. Chlorinated fluorocarbon solutions work well but are frowned upon by the EPA. Fluorinert works good too and is less physically aggressive.
  21. Learn how an AR operates. That's what the "plastic" tit on the rear of the buffer is for. It keeps the carrier from travelling too far to the rear. If you want to shear the key, run a carbine buffer in a rifle tube. Ask me how I know. I didn't learn this stuff from reading an interent forum.
  22. Sent ccworks an email about them on the fourth of last month and they never bothered to reply.
