  1. Thanks for the responses guys, I found one in austin the first Saturday of every month, one at area 59 the second week as well as greenwood gun club the same week, then temple gun club on the third Saturday every month. I go to church every Sunday so for the matches at CCC (which happen to be the closest as well, go figure) I won’t be going, since they only do Sundays. They seem to be the only ones I have seen that do Sundays so its kinda weird honestly. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  3. Kind of, but I don’t facebook (only used it for deployments), or Instagram or really any other social media besides forums. Lol I might be able to ask my wife though Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. Hopefully this is the right section for this. I’m new to the USPSA world and I am looking for a match for the Saturday ofter next (26th), I’m also trying to build a schedule so I can potentially shoot every weekend of every month too. l and I can’t seem to find one. I found one for every other weekend of the month but not the 4th weekend. Any suggestions? Sundays don’t work for me, and I would prefer not to shoot indoor, I don’t like indoor ranges, just something about the lighting. I’m in the College Station area and am willing to drive about 2-2.5 hrs away to shoot, so Houston, Austin, Temple and such (I already have some from those places on the schedule but I am sure I missed some). Also any other weekend would be appreciated just for more options Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  6. Is that in agreement or no? I honestly can’t tell Why wouldn’t safe be a word for a sport where you run and gun? That’s the point for the 180 rule, shooting over the berm, finger off the trigger when reloading and such. One screw up and someone could be dead. If someone is good enough to be able to sprint around and shoot on one foot and not fall then good on ‘em. But I bet they started slow and built up the skill to perform like that. They also know that if they fall they are done Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. What ever is comfortable first of all, but I prefer slight bend. Your arms act sort of like a shock and will absorb the recoil allowing you to stay on target better with each shot. If you lock out that recoil will go all the way down to the small or your back (I have back issues also so the less shock down there the better) and could potentially cause your whole upper body to move with recoil. Sounds like you have a grip like mine, torque in with your arms on the grip and you don’t have to squeeze as hard with your hands to fight the recoil as well. Your biceps and forearms and pecs take over to help provide stability Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. I’m not gonna say much about this but if I have an AD and I know it was an AD, even if It hit the target, I’m probably going to DQ myself just out of shame. Regardless of what the RO says. I didn’t keep my finger off the trigger until ready to fire. It’s the same thing as drawing and pumping one into the ground in front of you. I know people are going to say “rules rules rules!” But that’s my opinion. There is a reason it says “not limited to” and some people try to say that if it is not specifically laid out in the book it is fine or can’t be called. Squeezing one off too early during a transition is a little different though, you are actively engaging targets, your eyes were probably on it and the gun just didn’t make it over before you thought you were ready, you meant to shoot but you weren’t quite on target yet, or you could have swung a little past it and squeezed before you realized you had to correct. Still purposely squeezing the trigger. If you wanna go all Taran Butler and fire from the hip then so be it but like some of the other threads say it will be obvious (like this case also) if the shot was intended. This went longer than intended but one last thing, if she is such a safety concern like stated then she needs more training or instruction and not allowed to shoot matches until she can prove that she has in fact improved. Correct me if I am wrong but it sounds like she has been DQ’d a lot. This sport has the potential to be extremely dangerous and safety should be the main concern, if she has proven time and time again that she is unsafe then she shouldn’t be shooting until she can be safe. I used mine to qual for the nra basic pistol and instructor course this last week. I noticed it was shooting a little low and left and just compensated for it at the time. I’ll take it to the range and really focus on dialing it in since I THOUGHT it was dead nuts. I must have been jerking it or something last time. Thing is a tack driver though. 45ft and a 3 inch group. Can’t complain about that
  10. Serious question though, was that 45s or 9mm and 40s that people were loading with hopped up rounds to meet the pf with the gun they had? Common sense says that if you load hot rounds in a gun not specifically built for it the gun won’t last as long. That is why some manufacturers warn against +p rounds. Most guys to meet power factors are loading beyond general +p or even +p+ rounds. Look at the m9, when it was adopted the frames and slides were cracking because the nato 9mm is a much hotter round than it was originally built for so they had to beef it up. The rule change more than likely came around because they saw people were trying to meet the pf from guns that weren’t originally meant to reach it. So for safety’s sake, to keep guys from blowing up guns, they changed it so it was easier for smaller calibers to reach it and not be as likely to have catastrophic failure. Just my thinking, i was a toddler around that time so I don’t know specifics Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. Just so yall know (it doesn’t exactly match the topic of this thread but since i brought it up), I just got off the phone with sig and they are in the process of developing and testing green dot sights. The guy on the phone said it would be about a year when they are released. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. Alrighty, i thought so. I have been called worse though lol Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. Wait are you calling me dumb? I don’t care, just making sure I’m interpreting your comment properly. Also I dropped physics this last semester so there’s that. I really don’t care either way about pf, its all about shot placement for me, i just want nice precise hits quickly. My suggestion (if possible) could add another competitive side to the game too, can you save time and scoring with 2 quick shots to knock a target down or should you suck up the extra recoil and such and shoot major for the single shot required to take it down. 14. Oh I love the old 45 vs 9 debate. It’ll never end. I shoot 9 for capacity (my spare mag has 21rds in it and still conceals super easy) and the fact that i can shoot it faster and more accurately than a 45. In a defense situation a a fraction of a second could be life or death and i can almost guarantee the assailant won’t go down with one shot, trust me I’ve seen it. Unless its a shotgun.... On to the game though, how does a 9 with the same pf of a 45 act? Does it knock down the steel the same or does it have the same issues that were mentioned above? I would think they act the same since they should have the same energy and everything. So power factor could be good for targets that will only fall with a major hit, or it could require 2 consecutive shots from minor (maybe a ratchet type system that doesn’t allow it to completely fall back forward after the first shot). Just a thought Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

The town I grew up in did that, they would loan you one untill you were able to purchase one to carry. They may have had an approved list though. Most carried p226, p220 or p229 though

I was actually just recently looking into narrower night sights for my carry gun. There are companies that do custom ones. So you could find a front sight, i even saw where someone had a front sight modified made to the minimum width for tritium according to the company (.110 i think), and then send them the rear sight (if they can do it) to put some tritium in. 17. The same rule book will dq you for unsafe weapon handling. If you unintentionally fire a round, that is unsafe. There are a lot of things you can cite and say “but it followed these guidelines”. There is still the fact that the shot was unintentional. I don’t know how you can say accidentally firing off a round is in any way safe.
  18. No offense but I honestly think some of you guys are trying to read into some if this a little too much. Quoting rules and saying it doesn’t specifically say this that or the other (but it does say not limited too, in some cases). It’s pretty simple to me, if the shot was unintentional (not counting the gun going off a split second before you were were you wanted to be on target because you squeezed a little too hard) then thats a dq, its unsafe, even if it was pointed in a safe direction and hit more than 10ft away blah, blah, blah.... If he was trying to unload and show clear racking it even if you did remove the magazine isn’t sufficient enough to clear a gun, there is a reason we visually check (some even physically check with their finger) and have someone confirm it, what if you had a failure to extract? Close the slide pull the trigger boom. I hate seeing all the guys that try to be all gunfu racking the slide real quick, catching the bullet, sending the slide forward, holstering as fast as they can. There is no point in that. Slow down. Be safe. No one wants to leave early, especially if its to go to the hospital. I say good on that guy for dqing himself, maybe not up and leaving, but I would do the same thing and would be completely ashamed of myself. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. Could that potentially include modifying (filing it or slimming it) under the beaver tail to get a higher grip? Its technically part of the grip (your hand touches it at least) and you aren’t adding anything Also did the changes make is so that you can texture essentially anywhere now or is it still the restricted areas for that? I don’t really care about the rules change because I am so new but it does seem to me that they left it pretty wide open for modifications for the most part. Like “not limited to” to me is almost an open invitation to completely recontour the grip any way you want Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I would assume that he wants to carry it, otherwise imo there isn’t really a need for night sights on a gun Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. Not bragging but it only took me a couple of days, granted i was shooting all day and dry firing constantly with draws and target acquisitions in between live fire but it was 3 max and i was comfortable with it.
  22. I'm new to this sport so take what I say with a grain of salt, but like others have said if it works for you do it. If you reload better with the gun up in your face like i've seen those super "tactical" guys do then do it. I personally bring my gun about halfway back from full extension and elbow to chest, and stare at the far corner of the magwell. I also try to grab my mag in a way that my index finger is touching the tip of the bullet and then I feel and watch for my finger to hit the edge of the magwell and then slap it in as I start extending back out. The bullets on index finger is something that was driven home in the military and I really feel that it helps out because you are basically pointing your finger right to the magwell. Also to help with looking down I always sweep my belt feeling with my thumb for the next mag, thumb touches it, thats the one I grab. Like I said though, I'm new to the sport but this is what I have been doing with my personal training.
  23. I know you mentioned this for the 1911/2011 platform but with almost every gun I shoot that has a rail on it the bottom (lower most part) of my thumb on my support hand rides in the groove, I normally can feel one of the gaps of the rail on a certain part of my thumb and feel for it as I get my grip. Like others have said its more of a landmark than anything, sometimes if I'm really cranking down on my grip its like a *thumb rest [generic]* but it can also throw off the shots if the grip is uneven

I actually picked it up yesterday and took it to the range today. I put 400rds of fiocchi 115gr through it without even a hiccup. Gun was perfectly sighted in and I didn't have any issues with the lock up like others have. It was very tight compared to my other p320 but it fed and ejected everything no problem. The only issue I did have was causing the slide to lock back with rounds still in the mag but that was user error. I have a pretty high and aggressive grip that normally causes most other guns (including my other p320) to not lock back on last round, it's something I need to work on.
  25. Maybe they thought you were just that good? Kidding aside thanks for the input, it helps to know what to look for in a class also. My only experience so far is from the Navy expeditionary combat school, it was a great school with toooons of trigger time. It was essentially 3 weeks of non stop shooting; pistol, rifle, and then combining both of them. I also took the LTC course here in Texas but that doesn't teach you to shoot or tactics (it's not meant to) just the laws about carrying. The whole point of me starting this thread was so we can try and compile a list of classes, I've seen a few that say "I took so and so's class and it was good" but not a list that says "here are good classes and what they were like". I have a few I want to take right now but they are either far away, booked up, expensive or all three lol.
