  1. My first thought regarding optic Revo was "Cool!". It's is a blast to run open major in uspsa or OSR in SCSA. However, allowing a dot is , just as you say , requiring a dot; allowing a dot destroys parity with IPSC for the World Shoot. I don't think adding dots will increase Revo participation, it will just penalize the few dedicated die hards with big goals. I'd sign no, even though my original survey answer was yes, for the above reasons. Can we make optic Revo a category? Could that be an option? Jason
  2. I shoot my v comp in open with major ammo and generally do pretty well on field courses. I get smacked on classifiers , as reloads are much slower, a or capacity mandated when a true open blaster would just be blasting away. I've toyed with your idea, perhaps signing up as Jason "Open Revo" Wilson, but always back away from it. That feels prideful or attention seeking to me. I'm not special, I'm just the fool who thought his Honda Civic with a hood scoop and growler muffler could race with the muscle cars. I do understand the wish to make a distinction, though. I usually just use percentages gleaned from nationals to judge how I "finished". The ",handicaps" would be: Open roughly 50 %ish for Revo, 55% for dotted Revo CO/LO 60% ish (65% for a dot) Lim 65% (70 for a dotted Revo) Production 15 80% (75% with a dotted Revo) SS 75% (70%) with a dotted Revo. Over the course of a match if you add in those percentages, you'll roughly find how your performance compared to other competitors with different equipment Yesterdays match I was third in open. I know the winner was actually shooting a slide ride Cz So if I add in %35 percent we had a similar day, ending in essentially a "tie". I also know, generally where this competitor finishes at big events, so I can further gauge my performance. It was an at skill level performance which would land me at roughly 75-78 percent of the truly capable Revo shooters. Alchemaic? Yes. Useful for self assessment? Yes. Jason
  3. That might be fun to try! Hopefully it takes the same moon clips as a 627. Jason
  4. I'm seriously thinking about magna porting the 686+ I picked up. I'll look into the JM Custom holster. Thanks! Jason
  5. I'm shooting Open/OSR/RFPO Revo for as long as my finger tendonitis will allow, so carrying what I shoot makes sense to me. I've also found the *MOST FUN* I have at matches, USPSA or Steel Challenge, is blasting away with a dotted Revo. I don't know if it's vision related, or the plastic nature of my skill set, but ever since I fought my way to GM in Steel Challenge OSR, I've struggled with irons. I've given in and my stubborn loses: I'm going to shoot what is the most fun and what I do best. ...for what it's worth, my practical mind agrees with you: dots, revo's and practicality should be mutually exclusive. However, my monkey brain takes over after the beep and I love it! Thanks for the advice on the 386/686! Jason
  6. I picked up one of the Taurus T.O.R.O 856 in 38 about a month ago. I picked it up on GB for less than the 407K I stuck on it. I've been using it as an experiment on how well an optic Revo carried owb at 4:00 o'clock strong side would hold up to life and Texas humidity. Through yard work, a full tear down to the studs, shifting to make a new room, reframing and now finishing it's not been damaged. The dot does fog, but so far has just acted like an occluded optic; from full AC to 103 and Texas humidity it's worked. The only downside for me is the 38+p and I struggle to get a consistent grip on the tiny grip. I'm very satisfied with the proof of concept and think an EDC optic Revo is a go for me. I'm torn between a model 66 or a 686+ 2.5 inch. I like the 7 shots in the 686, but prefer the 3 inch barrel feel. I have a K6S for deep concealment when the need arises. Which way would ya'll go for an EDC/ Packin' pistol in 357? Jason
  7. I picked up a Sig Match Elite in 40 from a forum member: I love it. I changed the pin stop to a flat bottom, up'ed the recoil spring, changed the grips ( all for feel, not function) but I love it. I've got close to 2k through it and ( once I tightened down the magwell, allowing the mags to seat) it's been utterly flawless. I want another as a back up! Anybody have one collecting dust they might part with? If the Sig Max ( in 40) is as reliable, I'd be interested in that, too! Jason
  8. Thanks for all the replies! I have a lot to think about. I *may* just start with a Ruger 22/45 and some polishing, then see what happens! Thanks again! Jason
  9. I'm looking for a 22 1911 for steel challenge. My Glock 44 and S&W 617 have been hammer reliable, but I'm now shooting 1911's for the foreseeable future. I know the Ruger 22/45 is an option, but after several years of RO'ing 2 steel challenge matches a month, the appear to be far more finicky than either my Glock 44 or s&w 617 Revo. What's a hammer reliable 22 1911 with a Fiber Optic front or replaceable front sight? Thanks! Jason
  10. Did they change that model to a bushing barrel? I have the bull version set up for 40/10 that after a raised mag catch and ramp shaping and polishing runs great, but the bull barrel makes it a no go. I, in my wisdom, didn't realize that the bull barrel prohibited it from SS. I could shoot L10, but if I decide to go to Nats this year, it would be nice to have at least a few people to shoot against. If the rules changed or it's a bushing, it would be worth it. Thanks! Jason
  11. I'm thinking about picking up a bushing barrel 10 mm for conversion to 40. I'm shooting SS this year, then transitioning to LTD next year. I could just load one caliber major for USPSA and minor for SCSA; no spp/lpp hastle for 45 ACP; and no flopping my press between 45 & 9. I know getting 10 round mags to run in 40 can be tricky, but I've sorted that in the past, plus 9 in the mag for steel challenge is good enough. Since it's a 9 month investment, I'm thinking about just picking up a 10 mm Ronin and a "fit" Nowlin barrel in the caliber everyone loves to hate. An EGW raised catch and a magwell. A bit of polish and (possibly) a main and recoil spring change and I should be gtg for about $1300. I already have 8 Tripp's with the collapsible follower. Is their a better 10 mm 1911 to convert for around a grand? Thanks, Jason A
  12. I'd think it would be easier to explain it thusly: No magwell 15 rounds in mag at *beeeep* No SA triggers Aaand GO! Jason
  13. I replaced the cross pin and the sight still flopped. I replaced the fs with one I had from my sp 01. The sight is now tight. Thanks, Jason
  14. I feel like USPSA is in a transitional state. With 90(ish) % of shooters using dots, partials, NS's and distance shots are less challenging. The capacity boom brought in by CO, PCC and now LO has ushered in what I call "hitchy" stages. Odd target arrays which take away the ability to pick a spot and hose all but a few targets. This has resulted in intricate stages with multiple positions required. If nearly everyone has dots for tight shots and distance and extra bb's for make ups what remains to make stages challenging and interesting? The obvious answer is tighter partials, hitchy stages and forced running. Technological advancements have made the sport easier: the result is what we are seeing. Ymmv Jason
  15. It will shift towards the muzzle, then the side the shooter sees raises out of the sight notch considerably. I think you are correct, I'm betting the cross pin is missing, badly misshapen or broken. I just decided to replace the whole front sight, maybe I should just order a new front sight pin? I'll try that first. Thanks Jason Edit- done!
  16. IIRC correctly, the foundation for major and minor scoring was a 230 45 ACP @ 850 fps ( I think the original major was 190 PF) was believed to do more damage to the target. Conceptually , peripheral hits were rewarded more not for recoil control, but effect on target. That mindset ( factual or not) is no longer adhered to by not only competitive shooters, but many ballisticians and agencies who could be required to poke holes in people to make them stop doing very bad things. The belief of the day is 9, 40, and 45 are essentially the same. This mindset, imo, is why major scoring is questioned. It's viewed by many the same as revolvers, 1911's and iron sights as irrelevant and a throwback to less enlightened times. Just my thoughts, Jason
  17. I acquired a Shadow 2 last November and would like to start shooting it. The rest of the gun is super slick, but the front sight moves up and down at least 1/8 to possibly 3/16 of an inch in the notch. I went to Dawson, but can't find a Shadow 2 front sight specifically listed: the only one listed is for the Orange. Is the front dovetail on a standard S2 the same as the Sp-01? Which sight do I need? Thanks! Jason
  18. That makes sense. Thanks Jason
  19. Would not the Castle Doctrine apply to removing your EDC in the parking lot? If I'm fully in my vehicle doesn't state law apply ? If I need to enter a building with a 30.06 sign clearly posted, I return to my vehicle, close the door, remove my gun ammo and holster, stow them properly exit the vehicle and lock the door . Upon returning, I re-arm. If I do this at a USPSA match , I can be DQ'ed? Jason
  20. I picked up a used v comp that has had the front sight razed. I'd like the option of shooting irons with it . Does anyone have the ability or know someone who can mill or attach a front sight to a v comp unported end cap? Thanks Jason
  21. I'd not call that lazy, I'd call that smart. I'm far to , let's say "eclectic" ( which sounds better than squirrelly... I bounce around between calibers and platforms. WAY to much to ever advance) to create and stick with one load. You've got the right idea: I've got A.D.D. ... Jason
  22. Something to ponder, ammo that works well in your autos may or may not function well in a Revo. My experience has been long, heavy bullets with a long ogive and bearing surface shoot better. I think longer bullet corrects bullet yaw from the freebore between the chamber and the throat of the cylinder better. Good neck tension and depending on how you load, a touch more crimp may be necessary. I've never been satisfied with the accuracy of cast .356 bullets in a 627. People have success with lighter bullets, but your auto ammo *may* not be as plug and play as you like . Another option, which may or may not fit your wants and needs is 38 short or long colt. The $$$ you'd save on milling could get you 500 prices of brass, 20-30. *- TK clips and a 38 short die set. I add a 9mm factory crimp set very light to iron out everything. That being said, picking up 1000 pieces of clip specific 9 mm brass, clips and .358 bullets would be easy, too. I had tr8, sold it and wish I had it back: now I have to buy another one. Good luck on whatever you decide! Jason
  23. Do they reload in moon clips well? If so I'll order 500 of these and give them a go! Thanks Jason
  24. Does anyone know of a supplier that makes a 125 or 115 rn .357 jacketed bullet. Everything I can find in that dimension is a jhp, tc , or rnfp. I'd like to minimize comp gunk. My current major of load isn't gumming things up, but my "comp" came cut wide open. I'm betting a more enclosed muzzle device would gum up. Does anyone have any experience with "hi-tek" coated bullets , comps and major pf? The info I can find shows hugely disparate results. I've been spraying down the comp before shooting and I have *less* gunk than when I started, but as I stated, it's really one giant vent at the end of the muzzle. Thanks , Jason
