  1. So, frame mounts tend to be less abusive to the optic, but they put the dot higher, which lots of people say is a bigger learning curve if you're coming from irons. I don't think it matters all that much, but that's me. And I went to the frame mount after getting a bunch of time with slide mount optics. Big considerations: --Are there rules that would mandate you to have one over the other? Something like uspsa carry optics or 'stealth' division at some multigun matches is slide-mount only. --Holster selection is another concern. Generally, frame mounts require a custom kydex holster if you want a kydex holster. Or you could go with a race holster that only covers the trigger guard. If you have a slide mount, you can get retention holsters if you want one. Which all boils down to: what kind of matches are you going to shoot? I love USPSA open guns, and I like the frame mount best in that context. I don't shoot enough multigun to comment much there, but for most matches near me if I'm shooting multigun, I just use my open gun, race holster, and the holster's lock lever if I need it.
  2. do you know anyone with either to try? That'd be ideal. Some of it is balance, not just weight. I love my steel gripped open gun (with comp, ports, etc. so not a lot of recoil), and I'm not sure how much of it is total weight and how much is balance.
  3. Stock MBX for me, 140s & 170s. I do the "let them sit loaded before use" thing they tell you to with the instructions, and they've ran great.
  4. Bingo. DVC-L is probably going to need some trigger work done, and the PT Evo grip is way better than the plastic grip. And smiths charge a bunch if you want to fit a metal grip later. Plus, the Titan doesn't have slide cuts that create a bunch of stress risers.
  5. I think it was Dave Dawson who returned to fix quality, but I could be wrong. I heard that from other forum enthusiasts, not STI. They probably should have axed the DVC name when they did that, at least for the competition guns to get away from all the slide cracking issues. Or the stories of slide cracking issues. And the stories of terrible service. I also think that their open guns aren't very competitive if you look at features/price. If I'm happy with a plastic grip, I can go cheaper. But most people want metal, and you can get a metal gripped gun from a smaller builder for not much more money, and maybe actually get popple holes if you want them. And they don't have a big name to trade on like Akai or SVI or Limcat or whoever. Oh, and it doesn't help that they're not sponsoring anybody really good in USPSA. They're probably too busy chasing police contracts now.
  6. Does it have to be on the mount? Would the nitrofin work for you?
  7. I tried the Alpha-X and liked it. On the advice of some earlier threads here, I then tried the Everglades MRH. It's better in every way, as long as you're shooting a 2011.
  8. If you're going with LSI for the grip, Glenn can do frames or a short block if you want.
  9. Yup. According to instagram, 35mm tall, 24mm high.
  10. Neat. Did you have to mess with drilling out the gas port at all?
