  1. 124 grn MG, 3.9 grn Titegroup @1.55 oal. 1071 fps out of a 5" kkm barrel.
  2. I switched to the 4 port when it first became available. However, I couldn't really tell much difference between the two.
  3. It's not very quick and easy to switch barrels once the comp is in place. You need to use red loctite or something similar to keep the comp in place and it's a pain to remove it once it's set. Would it stay in place using blue loctite for a match of 150 rounds of factory ammo? I rarely shoot in more than 1 match per month, so even if I need to reapply the blue before each match is no problem at all. Remember, I am looking for good-enough for a low end D class I suspect that blue loctite by itself would not be sufficient. If you did as 70116 suggested with a set screw/dimple, you might be able to get by if you're shooting minor loads. But I have no experience with trying that.

  5. My 9mm open major started life as a 9L. It currently has a Storm Lake barrel with a Carver 4 port comp and an Apex FSS trigger with just over a 2 pound trigger pull. My load is 6.6 grains of Autocomp loaded to 1.16" with MG 124 CMG bullets. This gives me a PF of 169+. This load may not make major in a 4.25" Barrel. I have also used 7.7 grains of HS6 for a PF of 172. Hope this helps.
  6. I finally received this order! I never did receive a response back from this company but the order was shipped the day after my second e-mail message.
  7. Thanks for this! I purchased a 26" Versa Max 2 days ago and didn't know about the rebate. Filling out the rebate form now.
  8. Anyone know what's going on with 3gungear? My credit card has been charged and no shipment. No answer to e-mail, no answer on phone and voice mail box is full. Thanks Barney
  9. I have two pair of ESS Crossbows and they work fine for shooting pistol. However, the prescription insert is fairly small which causes me a problem with shooting rifle. You end up looking through the upper corner of the RX. Since these need to be taken apart to be cleaned, they probably don't get cleaned as often as they should.
  10. I use the extra small powder bar for all of my pistol loads including HS6 for major 9. I also use the UniqueTek micrometer in this.
  11. I shoot a S&W 9L with a Storm Lake threaded barrel and 4 port Carver comp. I needed to increase the leade a little to load some bullets to 1.60". I use 6.7 grains of Autocomp or 7.8 grains of HS6 with power factors of about 170. I've used WSP or Fed small pistol Magnum primers and haven't chronoed much difference between the two primers.
  12. I'd go with the Apex parts first if money is the issue. The rear sight isn't hard to take on and off. However the front sight can be difficult. Actually, it can really be a bitch.
  13. From looking at USPSA rules, you would not be able to remove or disable the trigger safety for shooting production. You should be able to radius the tip of the trigger safety as long as it still performs as a trigger safety but this would need to be reviewed by USPSA for an official answer. There should not be a problem with a radius on the tip of the trigger safety for the other divisions. If the trigger safety is considered the 'primary' safety on the M&P, then it can not be removed or disabled. If it is not considered primary, I think you can. This would be similar to pining a grip safety on a 1911 style handgun (thumb safety is primary), which is fairly common.
  14. I wonder if this is 'legal' for limited too. I'm unsure of what is considered the 'primary' safety on an M&P.
  15. Thanks for all the information guys, I appreciate it. My intent was similar to horseman's, convert my 5" pro 40 to 9mm for 3 gun use. I was considering buying a Storm Lake (didn't know that KKM makes one), when it dawned on me that I had a stock 9mm barrel left over from my 9mm major project. I may try it on my next trip to the range and see what happens.
  16. Has anyone put a factory 9mm barrel in a 40 Pro? I know that Storm Lake makes a conversion barrel to do this but I'm wondering if I can't just put a factory 9 in it. Fitting problems? Accuracy? Thanks for any information, comments
  17. Here's a couple of pix but hard to focus on the trigger safety. Keep in mind this is an Apex FSS trigger that has been modified.
  18. I purchased two pair of the ESS Ice with prescription insert about two years ago. One prescription was my normal vision for shooting my open gun; the other was normal prescription left eye with the right eye a + prescription to bring the front sight into focus for my limited gun. These probably don't get cleaned as often as they should since the prescription insert needs to be removed for cleaning between the lenses. I then started shooting a little 3 gun and found that since the prescription insert was a little smaller than normal glasses, I was having a problem with the 'eye box' on the scope. I ordered a pair of WileyX with my limited gun prescription in the frames. These were obtained from ADS Sports Eyeware out Texas. I had these lenses made from Trivex rather than polycarbonate. These have worked out very well for me shooting limited and 3 gun.
  19. I hated the quad handrail on mine and replaced it with a small diameter Nordic one. It's not hard to do but you do need to get the barrel nut tool and barrel vice to remove the S&W barrel nut. I also needed to buy the tools to install the new barrel nut and the hand guard.
  20. I ran into this problem when installing the FSS trigger and the competition spring set. I put a piece of small grit sandpaper between the trigger safety and the frame and pulled the trigger a few times to radius the tip of the trigger safety. You can ruin one of these triggers by using a file to remove /radius that tip. Ask me how I know.
  21. They say the pad would be about 1/2" wide. I haven't really figured out how to attach photos. Barney
  22. Yes, I think the one I received was to narrow. I did correspond with them a couple of times today and they sent a picture of a new product that may work better. They also indicated I could request a "competition" pad that would be bigger. I'll see if I can get the picture on this post. This was the message: If you decide to order such a model now or in the future, simply choose a Large SL with Long Arm, and write in block letters "LARGE COMPETITION THUMB PAD". Seem to be good people to work with. I can only guess at the correct angle for this but I would guess somewhere around 60 degrees or so.
  23. After seeing the link on this topic to the Speedledge product, I thought I'd give it a try thinking it would work with my CR Speed WSM2 holster that I use with my 5" limited gun and my M&P Major 9 gun. Since I have short thumbs, I ordered the long version. After attaching the Speedledge to the rear rail slot I found that was about the correct length but the pistol would not holster. If I moved the SL to the center rail slot the pistol would holster but the holster would need to have some modifications to allow for a normal draw stroke. Aside from the holster issues, the SL is not really designed for competition. I think the thumb pad itself is too small and at the wrong angle. The angle appears to be ~40 degrees from horizontal which is much less than most thumb rests I've seen. The thumb rest pad also is not centered on your thumb. It's left hand edge is centered on the middle of the thumb and I believe this would push the pistol to the right during recoil. I did not shoot the pistol with the SL attached so that is speculation on my part. In any case, I'm in the process of returning it.
  24. I went with the FSS on my 5" Pro 40 and the competition spring set. I installed a RAM but took it out. I also am using the factory sear spring. My trigger pull is about 2 1/4 lbs. I have a similar setup in my M&P open gun and it's pull weight is a closer to 2 lbs. I think you need to be careful with having a 'dead trigger' problem when using the FSS is the reason for not using the RAM and for using the factory sear spring.
