  1. Rick, Have you considered the Kahr T-9? It is slimmer than either a 1911 or M&P. It has a very unique trigger system which most closely resembles a very light smooth double action revolver trigger. Very accurate and easy to control since it is an all stainless steel gun. If you were in the SW MI area you could have her try mine.
  2. Clays would be an excellent choice for light loads in 45 ACP but I would not use it in either 9mm or 38 Super. Titegroup has load data for all three calibers but I find it a bit hot burning especially with lead bullets. I tend to use WSF for my 9mm loads, W-231 or American Selct for light revo loads in 38 Super and Clays, WST or American Select for 45 ACP.
  3. I never use case lube with straight walled pistol cases. In my mind that's why carbide dies were invented.
  4. I use mixed 45 ACP brass in my 625 and have never experienced a problem with two exceptions: 1) I toss alll the AMERC brass in a scrap container it's totally unusable for reloading. 2) You might experience some difficulty in seating primers in S&B brass.
  5. I have a friend who had a similar experience at a steel plate shoot. He as shooting lead bullets at moderate velocities in a 45 ACP 1911 and did not realize he had a squiib. The second round apparently bulged the barrel and we could not open the action. In his case the front of the barrel was not split nor was the barrel bushing. I do not know how the local gunsmith opened the gun but the gun required a barrel replacemnt.
  6. I have the single stack TacSol 2211 unit and in my opionion it is the finest piece of machining available. Their customer service is also second to none
  7. I purchased a STI Trojan in 40 S&W ca 2 years ago. Super accuracy and great ergonomics but I found relaibility to be wanting. I finally determined that feeding failurtes especially from slide lock were due to crud on the barrel ramp after firing ca 30 to 40 rounds. So that meant I would have to clean the feed ramp after each station. I called STI and explained the problem. They said send it back and we'll take care of it. I sent in the upper and it was returned within 10 days with a polished and recountoured feed ramp, tuned extractor and polished breech face. GREAT customer service. I am anxious to shoot some rounds through the gun.
  8. I have a Springfield 1911 Target in 9mm and an STI Trojan in 40 S&W. The SA 1911 in 9mm has been a model of reliability and functions with every bullet and OAL I have fed it - accuracy is on the minus side. The STI Trojan in 40 S&W is very accurate but has expereinced feeding problems particulary from slide lock and when the ramp gets a bit dirty after ca 25-35 rounds - I have called STI and sent the upper to them (great customer service).
  9. I don't knowabout the MecGar P14 mags however, the Mecgar P16 and P18 mags function reliably but do not allow the slide to stay open after firing the last round.
  10. At our club we do not allow the use of rifle calibers on steel targets, period! Those bullets will punch holes in the steel.
  11. I have not used HS-700X in 9mm but my pert load in 45 ACP is a 185 gr. LSWC, 3.8 gr. HS-700X, Rem 2.5 for ca 710 fps - mild and very accurate out to 25 yards. That charge meters well in my dillon 550.
  12. The 158 gr. LRN or 158 gr Berry's or Rainer RN bullets work well for me with American Select powder. American Select is clean burning and meters well in my Dillon 550. I use the same loads for USPSA, IDPA and the DR and Harry Reeves matches at Camp Perry.
  13. I have a Dan Wesson Pointman in 9m with an extra 40 S&W top end. This is an old pre CZ gun without a ramped barrel. It will feed RN bullets of 115 to 147 gr. weight without difficulty but I expereince feeding failures with either hollow points or the Rainer 147 gr. which has a round nose with a flat point.
  14. I have a Sig 226 Sport II SL the version with the weighter frame/slide extention. I use it in IDPA and USPSA after installing and old folded steel slide and a stock Sig barrel. Works well as long as you get used to the very long and heavey firsat shot DA trigger pull. My favorite pistols for IDPA and USPSA are the S&W 99 or S&W M&P9 Pro.
  15. Are the Magtech primers harderv than the Winchester? I am looking for replacements in revolver ammo.
  16. I haven't noticed any difference in accuracy between the 610 and 625. I use the Ranch Products moonclips inmmy 610 for ca $75 perr 100.
  17. Several years ago I found ca. 100 cases of the Winchester brass with large primer holes. I loaded them and measured the velocity - for all practical purpose they were identical with overlapping SD's.
  18. I have shot the 327 PC JM version which is similar to the 327R8 except it weighs less since it has a titanium cylinder. With heavy loads the recoil difference between it and a 627 are very noticeable. With the mild loads used for ICORE and steel challenge one does not feel a significant change in recoil. I was surprised that it came back on target a bit faster than my 627 with the same loads.
  19. I have used Bullsete for many years. In my loads it does not appear dirtier than Titegroup. I use it with 124 and 147 gr, plated and jacketed bullets in my 9mm loads and in 38 Special. Bulleseye meters very consistently and I clean my gun after every 200 rounds or so. Never expereinced any problems with it's use.
  20. I don't use iether Russian vodka nor ammunition/components. I might reconsider when the Putin dynasty bids farewell.
  21. The printed Alliant Reloaders 2005 Edition lists 4.9 gr. Bullseye as a maximum load with either lead or jacketed bullets at ca 32000 to 33000 psi. I would pull the bullets.
  22. Recoil perception is very individualized. Most individuals wwould state that the 147 gr. bullet at ca 900 fps is softer than a 125 gr. at ca. 1100 fps. I prefer the heavier bullet for both match and practise. W-231, Bullseye and WSF are good choices for the 147 gr. lead bullet.
  23. A fellow shooter uses American Select in all his relaoding and swears by it. I have used it in mild loads of 38 Spceial, 357 Mag, 40 S&W and 45 ACP.
  24. I have been using the 9mm 124 gr. Montana Gold JHP without any issues.
  25. In my opinion, the K-22 would be the best way to get inexpensive, quality trigger time - much better than dry firing.
