I’m assuming the overhead is the one with the raised portion one that I’ve seen some photos of.  Like the tungsten rib is raised and sticking up above the slide?

    Yea

Several people including Julian lim recommended that one to me.   And the guy at my local has the TSRB shorty that I tested.   It was at dlc this week so I’m hoping to see it in my hands next week sometime 😬

Yeah. I like the shorty. The TSRB is ideal but as I said the overhead TSRB with that chunk on top of the island barrel is no beuno.

I went with the limcat.  4 month wait time felt the easiest to wait for.  I also had the opportunity to shoot a limcat that a guy at my local club had so they helped cement my decision.

    Which one? OTSRB?

I was going to go with the v2.  Until I saw the price 😂.   For a off the shelf production open gun they’re insane for charging that.      I started pricing other open builds, lead times and features.    The limcat was the best out of all the custom builders for features, price, lead times and warranty.     Why anyone would go with the v2 with the price and features is beyond me.

Agreed. Did you price SV? Can easily be less than Atlas and Limcat and wow are they good.

Hey gents, just following up, this gun has been phenomenal. I’m not convinced that my load is ideal for it, but it hasn’t hiccuped once with major ammo and it runs most minor ammo just fine (although it doesn’t like to eject the last round of a mag on minor ammo). It groups very impressively and I enjoy pinging reduced c zone steel from 100 yds regularly. I take it the guy who did the smithing on this for the previous owner knew his stuff and got the mags running flawlessly. Excited to keep running it!

    Thanks for the update!

  6. My A01-LD came in around 53oz with a 140mm mag in it. Playing with the idea of seeing what it would feel like closer to the CO max. Brass grips are something I’ll be trying (will make weight by a tad) and then possibly also a tungsten guide rod without the grips just to see how it feels. The A01 shoots so well but it’s always fun to tinker.

I wanted to gauge interest to see who might be interested in this endeavor.

I sent mine and they did a great job. (2.25 lb SA and 4.8lb DA) Deciding factor was i wanted to get rid of the terrible urban Grey finish and slide milled for optics. Figured since it's already there, might as well get the trigger job.

One thing to factor into the cost is it must be shipped there and back to a FFL, which can add some money as well

You can legally ship to CGW yourself and have it shipped back to your home when done.

Of course you can.  However, you may have to change your powder.  I literally cannot fit enough 3N38 in a 9mm case to make major with a 115 JHP.  With a 124 I can (barely) but have to seat and crimp in the same operation.  Otherwise the OAL will 'grow".  Switching to AA7 will cure all that.

I didn't have any problem with making major with 3N38 and a 124g bullet at 1.175. Bullets didn't grow. What I hate about 3N38 and 9mm major is the mess that happens with the press.

Where is the best place to buy one?

The FTP? On their website (click on the USA one). He may offer a code for Enos members now and I am pretty sure he does. They are sold out until June I think. Well worth the wait!

IMO, N340 and N350 are too fast for 9mm major.  I use gobs of SWMP or AA7.  If I could fit more of a slower powder in the case, I'd be using that.  Even getting silly with PF, I cannot generate enough gas to fully work the comp.

Sold the other guns. I have since started to use 3N37 for 9mm major as recommended by current builder/manufacturer. Zero issue making PF with N350/3N37 and it shoots so nice.

On each of my three Open guns I went with a straight comp first.  None shot as flat as I wanted so I added poppels.  Two 3/16" dia. in a v2 config on two of them and three 5/16" vertical in the last.

So what happens when you add poppels?  You rob gas from the comp.  Yes, the gun shoots flatter, but hits the hand harder.  You lose velocity.  You make up for that by adding more powder.  That's a good thing, because there is more gas to 'work' the comp.

So, bottom line:  if you want the softest shooting gun, go with a good comp and as much slow powder as you safely can fit under a 115gr JHP.  As you go up in powder charge you will get softer and softer right up until you start to get excess gas jetting out the front of the comp.  If that is not flat enough for you, add poppels.

In 9mm major it is impossible to fit enough slow powder in the case to shoot flat AND soft.  So you have to choose one or the other, or a little of both.

BTW, the well known builder using four poppels in 9mm is using 1/8" dia. poppels.  You don't have to struggle to make PF.

Good info. Maybe we are talking about the same builder or maybe not. Mine were not 1/8" and even with "just" three it was not easy with N340/350 as recommended by the builder.

  13. Regarding the Honcho, mine had no holes and shot really well but was also super front heavy so maybe that affected it. My favorite feel for 9mm major is the new offset angled hybrid holes by SV. Keeps the gun super stable and a quick up and down then return to zero very fast.
