  1. Just installed the 0.245" Sevigny tritium front sight on the G19. Hopefully that corrects my POI being way high. Tomorrow is my last chance to try it before the IN state match.

Got 1k 9mm loaded this week.

Was hoping to crank up the dryfire this week, but work has been in the way. Gotten in about 1/2 hr each night this week. Reloads with the g19 are going well. Index needs a little work. I think I'm getting this glock trigger figured out. I almost never drop the dime off the FS (although it's a little easier with the tritium sight since its .125 wide).

    FWAPS tomorrow.

  2. You may also find it necessary to beef your loads up some to help.

    Chrono'd ammo this week. 137-138 PF in the G34. I don't think that's an issue :) Was about 132 in the G19.

  3. Just an update... The replacement 34 has started giving me trouble as well, enough so that I am shooting my G19 in the IN section match. The issue is the sAme.

I put in a gen 4 ejector. Time will tell if that makes a difference. Anxiously awaiting apex's new extractor

  5. Attended FWAPS practice tonight.

Checked the sights on the G19. It's hitting about 2.5" high at 10 yds. That sucks. I'll have to do the math, but I may try the .245 high version. I'll have to remember to hold under for the state match.

Put about 50 rounds through the 34 with the new ejector. Ran well, even with the light 115s. Too soon to get excited.

Got very little practice in, but did get some much needed chrono work done. Also took out the 9mm AR.... Too much fun, both to shoot and to see everyone's inner child come out. :goof:

Only made a couple runs on the steel array. First one was very conservative, just confirming I got good hits by putting the plates on top of the post. Second run I opened up. I shot it clean and just about the limit of my speed. It felt good.

  6. Ryan, one thing you might try is using a .40 extractor in your 34. I tried the white sound defense HRED plunger and it helped some, then I installed a .40 LCI extractor in my 17 and it nows extracts and ejects fantastic. I have put about 500 rnds through it with perfect 3 to 4 oclock pattern. I shot 2 matches and the pro am without a single extraction issue.

Thanks for the tip. Tonight I'm testing a Gen 4 30274 ejector... one thing at a time, ya know.....

  7. Over at glocktalk someone posted a new extractor from glock that is non dipped. They got them from Midway and supposedly fixed their extraction problems. However they are on backorder at this time. I hope Apex gets theirs out soon.

What does that mean, non-dipped? not finished or coated? what are the current ones dipped in?

    -rvb <= Glock newb.

edit: nevermind. Google is my friend. Makes my question above look pretty stupid, huh! :o

  8. With the prototypes you guys are running, are you able to run reduced power recoil springs? A trade off with increased extraction is the smoothness of feeding new rounds due to both shape and tension of the extractor.

I can't wait for this to hit the market. I'm new to glocks (bought my first one about 8 months ago), and have had a couple of real lemon G34s. Glock finally replaced my first one, but the replacement is having problems as well. This extractor is the final hope before I toss them in a river and go try a different manufacturer....

  9. Sounds like you like the 19 waaaya more than the 34

You bet. It works!* At this point I'd prefer a High Point to my 34.

The 19 doesn't have the rounds through it the G34 does, and the problems in the 34s have cropped up after 1k or so rounds through them. But I'm cautiously optimistic.

My wife shot the 19 really well and really liked the size. I'd like to get her one that is just hers... if I can get confident in it.

    * Oh crap! I just jinxed it!

  10. Just a note to self so I remember my current G19 setup...

Realized the 13lb ISMI spring was causing the slide to stop on the compressed spring vs the frame. Did some looking online and sure enough you cant use the same spring as the 17/34. oops. Cut 5 coils off (6 was often recommended here on enos), and it would then allow full slide travel, but the trigger pulled the slide out of lock-up. d'oh. Had a 15lb spring on hand... So I cut 4 coils off the 15lb ISMI spring. It now has full slide travel, stays locked up, passes the 'gravity test,' and is no longer rediculously over sprung as it came from the factory.

  11. My thing now is SEEING. I Could rip it at 7 yards and get the hit, but I want to SEE everything. I'm convinced SEEING is the only way forward.

RIP IT! See what you see... speed up your "seeing." That's what practice is for. 2c. You might learn something about your shooting.

What's the worse that happens? Miss a shot completely? Why? Maybe you learn something about your turn technique or grip or focus. I wouldn't count a lucky RIP IT run in you PB times, but may be a good exercise...

  12. dropped under 90% in production in the classification system for the first time in a couple years.... I was working towards GM. Now I'm working towards A.

Trying to find some positive to focus on, I went back through my classification record. While my score of 80.4 on 99-08 (Melody Line) was just good enough to count and wrecked my %, it was also the best I had ever shot that classifier (by ~17%), in any division.

  13. Back from work travel and did some dryfire w/ the G19 last night. Went pretty well. Really felt agressive, and was ahead of some of my pars. I think it was extra energy from being cooped up in meetings and on airplanes more than anything.

I decided the G17 mags are legal in the 19. All I can determine from the book is you can use any mag so long as it fits the box and makes weight with them. Weighed on my wife's kitchen scale and it came in at 24.3oz (well w/in the 2 over from the book 23.7). Good that I wont have to spend extra $ on short mags.

Using the G17 mags, reloads went very smooth. I seem to have a little pause on insertion since the well is burried up in my palm, but it doesn't seem to be reflected on the timer.

Did have a couple trigger freezes with the heavier trigger.

Desperately need some live fire time to verify the sights are installed on zero, and to chrono.

Almost out of match ammo!! Thought I loaded enough to last all year, so that's a good thing! Hope to get some cranked out this weekend.

Kinda looking forward to shooting a major match w/ a carry gun.

  15. Interesting... Won't let me post sl the videos in the same post.

Have a new camera and me to figure out some editing software for it. I'm getting a camera connection kit for my iPad so I can try merging/editing files on it...

  16. Finally got video up from the Warsaw match. My camera man fell asleep on stages 3 and 4. :D

Also put new sights on the G19, the Sevigny carry sights. The FS is a little thicker due to the tritium insert, but it'll do. I'm going to shoot the G19 in the state match because (knocking on wood) it hasn't failed yet.

  17. Swapped some parts on the G34 last night. Put in a Lone Wolf Extractor. Cycling by hand I saw no big change, so I took it out. I then put in a Gen 4 ejector (# 30274). It really kicks full-weight dummy rounds, but empty brass seems to just dribble worse than the Gen 3 ejector (the # 336). I left in the new ejector, and will try it on the range..... Talked w/ Apex via email re their new extractor that they think will fix these problems. Offered to be a beta tester but they tell me the parts are in que for production. I'll give it a try when they become available.

Need to figure out if using G17/34 mags in a G19 is legal in Prod before the state match. Assuming weight is met (sights and extra-length mags add < 2oz), would that be a "profile change?" Rule book is appropriately vague and all the enos discussions are old and reference the old production rules....

Hoping G17 mags work.... otherwise I have to invest in some G19 mags for the state match. Between crappy ever changing rules and these POS Glocks, I'm about to be done with production. Unfortunately, I can't afford a Limited gun right now. Do I dust off the open gun and start shelling out the $ it takes for brass?

Anyone have 2 G19 mags I could borrow for the next month??????????

    Jaded.

  18. I shot the Warsaw match this weekend. This was my first match since Sept that I actually shot a real match, on a squad, like a shooter. I was caught off guard by the nerves I experienced on the first couple of stages! I'm glad I fit this match in before jumping into the IN Section for that reason alone!

the first stage I shot (stage 5 in the big bay) was a disaster. I took about 5 seconds longer than I should have. I spent that 5 seconds on a SINGLE PLATE, including a standing reload. I was calling good hits, and the plate was only ~12-15 yards. Once I put the plate on top of, instead of centered on, the front site, it went down. I held that sight picture for the rest of the plates and went one for one. This stage is really what cost me the match, I came in 2nd by 22 points, and I gave up 28 on this stage. I need some range time to see if there is something to the sight picture issue, or just piss poor shooting (most likely). A D didn't help.

2nd stage (stage 6) went much better, except that I had an ejection failure. I must have rushed getting back into action and threw a miss on the target where the jam happened. I went one for one on the 6 steel, and I was very happy with my shooting on the move. I won this stage (prod) dispite the jam/miss.

3rd Stage (stage 1), had another ejection failure. When I cleared the brass, it also stripped out the next round, so I went to slide lock at the end of the array where I was expecting a straigh speed load, and that caused a bobble. Otherwise this stage went well w/ 23A, 3C on turtle targets. 2nd on this stage by the points lost in time malfunction clearing.

At this point, I borrowed Mett's gun. 2 jams in 3 stages was enough.

Stage 2: 10Cs and a D really hurt. Still won the stage. RO -thought- I may have swept myself on the port. In the video, even slowmo, I just can't tell. It required everything to be oh so close. I told the RO if he called it I'd believe it, but he didn't call it. I don't -think- I did. D was on a drop turner... I had plenty of time on it, just rushed the transition.

Stage 3: 99-08 Melody line. I shot it JUST well enough to totaly wreck my %. I get to replace a 100% w/ a 80.40. 5A/1B/6C in 7.10s. Most of the Cs were just outside the A. It wouldn't have taken much to make the hits...

Stage 4: Won this one. 16A/2C, all steel on first shot, with turtles and SHO required on last 6 shots.

Points and a working gun were the big issues of the day. Only shot 89% of the points.

Had a great day, and a great squad. -rvb

  19. Ever since putting new sights on the 34, I've struggled with the dime on the FS trick. I could do 10 pulls in a row with the stock sights, and NONE with the new sights. Thanks to a tip I read here on enos, I can now break the shot and keep the dime balanced at will. The trick? Putting a snap cap in the chamber. I guess just keeping the striker from hitting the breech makes the difference? I dunno, have to think about it.... But the results were instantly better. Hopefully not "trick of the day."

It's a boost to the confident that my grip and trigger press has not gone to hell.

  20. Shot a very poor match at Angola today. Left very disappointed.

1st stage I had a miss, and was way over aiming and over thinking my grip/trigger. You can't execute with your head in it that much.

    2nd stage I had a gun jam. :angry2: :angry2: :angry2:

3rd stage was a long range standard (08-05). I only had a couple hits on paper. Flat embarrassing. I shouldnt have worried about getting all the shots off and just made a couple of hits. Had another ejection failure. Need to really learn where this gun points at various distances.

4th stage I shot pretty well. Almost all As except for the second set of swingers. I could have done a better walk through on the latst half and set up better (and gotten the port open better). Shooting on the move went well, even on those little targets.

    Stage 4 vid:

Stage 5 (my stage) was a disaster. Reloaded at the wrong spot, threw off my plan, ended up with a mike and FTE penalty, and a standing reload. Was seriously pissed at myself.

    Stage 5 vid:

Stage 6 I have no idea, just shot for the hell of it. No time recorded on 4, and it had been torn down, so I ended up shooting for no score.

  21. Approx 250 rounds tonight in 105 degree heat!

Groups didn't go as well. Shot a couple of nice 1 to 1.5" groups (10yds), but they were high. Couldn't seem to avoid a flier in most of the groups.

Worked on keeping my grip lower on the gun, so as to not interfere with the slide stop.

Ran timing drills. Much more consistent on the splits than last time, and at .20-.25 my groups were much improved and the gun seemed to track much better than previously, though the front sight could still settle better on return.

Did some reloads on the timer. They were tense and fumbly. Had a couple good ones, but most were in the 1.3-1.6 range. I was disappointed because dryfire had gone so well the last couple of nights.

Then the FWAPS practice crew showed up. Not many people there tonight, so we just set up some steel. My shooting was awful at first. Lots and lots of make up shots and poor reloads. I finally realized I was over gripping the gun. Once I eased up, I started going one for one. I was glad to end on a good note.
