  1. Great, detailed explanation. I doubt FX has anyone that knowledgeable working for them. So I have to believe either 1) Mackey took a big chance of getting rubbed out because he doesn't know his equipment, or 2) The producers knew a little bit about guns (dropping the mag can leave a round in the gun) but not enough (the 4506 won't fire without the mag). From past experience I'm fully expecting someone on this forum to post a link to the LAPD purchase order for 4506's with the mag disconnector removed.
  2. Made a last minute decision to shoot Area 4 in 2005, a few months after I started shooting in competition. Used a G35 I picked up the night before, and a borrowed holster. On one memory stage I got two reshoots, and still ended up with two FTE's. Got one D out of 18 shots at the 50 Yard Standards, for a .111 HF. Finished at 32.94%, and later to my immense surprise, got a plaque for 2nd place in D-Limited. Loved (almost) every minute of it.
  3. Did they screw up in last night's episode? When he went to meet with the gang leader, his soldiers insisted that he give up his pistol. He dropped the mag but kept the gun, and that satisfied them. During the meeting he drew down on the leader with one round in the chamber. Isn't his gun a S&W 4506? Doesn't it have a mag disconnect?
  4. I ran into this same problem when I started reloading .38 Super. Tried everything, then finally noticed that some of the bullets were very loose in the case. I could turn the bullet, and sometimes pull it out with my fingers. Turns out that the American Ammunition brass I was using would not hold a crimp.
  5. I shoot both. An IDPA friend tried USPSA for the first time, and summed it up as IOPA - the International OFFENSIVE Pistol Association. Forget about cover - hit the bad guys before they can hit you. Always use speed reloads, and plan so you leave one in the pipe. And concentrate on planning, rehearsing, and "airgunning" each stage.
  6. I had no idea! For a guy like this to make money off a movie called Shooter, which will draw money from shooters, is the pinnacle of hypocracy.
  7. I have a question - how can I get "stuck" between 80 and 86%? I guess life is different as a C-class shooter with very little time to practice.
  8. I used to read a lot of SF. Lately I've been trying to come up with a way to find some good new stuff, without having to wade thru cr*p. My favorite SF books include Ender's Game (favorite book ever), The Forever War by Haldeman, the Berserker series, The Eternity Brigade by Goldin, the Foundation series, anything from Harry Harrison, and anything from Robert Heinlein, although they I hear they aren't making any new books from him anymore. Can anyone direct me to some similar books?
  9. DQ'd on the second stage of 12 at Area 4 in November. Stage was walls on left and right with two ports each, and a wall straight ahead with a door to more targets. Shooting Limited, I could shoot the targets thru three of the ports before reloading. I decided to shoot thru the two ports on the left, then the front port on the right, then reload while running back to the back port on the right, then go to the door. Muzzle unmistakably swept past the 180 while running uprange to the fourth port. Lots going on at work, no time to practice, I was not in any way mentally ready for a major match. Got to follow my friend around for the next two days, taping for the remaining 10 1/2 stages. I was committed to sharing the hotel costs for two nights anyway. Then back home I had to try to explain why I didn't come home after the shooting was over for me.
  10. I've read that Glocks come with a front sight, but truth be told I've never noticed one on mine.
  11. Did somebody order a Whopper?
  12. Hey, you guys better stop making fun of this guy. I just ran a check on this guy, and his bare hands are registered as lethal weapons. You need to fill out a 4473 just to shake hands with the guy.
  13. I was just going to the Forum to post this! Fox's headline said, "Rock Star Pulled Over With Arsenal in Trunk." I was wondering how he fit an entire weapons factory in his vehicle - figured I might find out where I could buy the same setup. Funny how the headline is over guns, not drugs or speeding, and the guns are the only thing he wasn't charged with.
  14. Cheaper than Dirt has them in their catalog for $79.97. They have 3 mikes on each ear, supposedl providing "surround-sound." Advertise 31 db NRR, and an interface with iPod or radios. I've tried several brands of electronic ears, and my favorites are the Radians, because they only cut out during the shot. Problems are that the electronics corrode after a year or two (on my first 2 pairs and my Dad's pair), and the headpiece broke on the last pair I bought.
  15. Great, concise explanation. Our local club set up the Double Tap Star stage, and if they got it right, it should be lots of fun. Two stars, each with an extra plate on one side near the top, and each with a stick to keep it from spinning. Open the door, the sticks are pulled out, and the extra plate starts the stars spinning then drop off. One spins each direction. Scott Stockton from Dallas cleaned this stage with no missed plates, by shooting at each plate as it appeared around 10 o'clock on the clockwise-spinning one, and 2 o'clock on the counterclockwise one. He had two or three plates dropping from one of them before it really started to spin. http://www.doubletapranch.com/Results%20an...ndex-DTC07.html
  16. I bought an older Holosight and got a reticle from Eotech for $20. Later they had an upgrade offer and with tradein of the old one, I got a new one for half price.
  17. Beard combover. Really a terrible year for Super Bowl commercials. The best ads this year get maybe a C+.
  18. Don't even mention George Clooney - the guy that gave a speech and said that Charlton Heston announced AGAIN that he has Alzheimer's. Clooney has zero class, and he will NEVER see a thin dime from me again as long as he lives.
  19. Come on now - athletes and actors are MUCH more qualified than you or I to tell us how the country should be run. They made all that money, didn't they? Obviously if a guy can get 20 rebounds in a game, or make a movie that grosses $60 million, he must have learned something about global warming, international relations, and economics.
  20. Somebody posted a story about a guy who noticed a scoring error to his favor. He asked the RO and MD to correct the score, and both refused since he'd already signed the scoresheet. He paid a $100 arbitration fee to try to remove unearned points from his own scoresheet. I think there are similar stories on the local level, in addition to those involving the big shots.
  21. This is a problem I have not yet had to face. I'm C-class, and I've been ecstatic with the 71% and 61% I've shot in the last two local matches. I can tell you that most of the other shooters are so concerned at their own performance that they don't care how other shooters finish. Unless they have to ride home with the other shooter. One exception is if a C shooter would ever beat an M, that shooter MIGHT notice. The fact is that everyone crashes and burns sometimes in this sport. Worry about your game and don't worry what anyone thinks.
  22. Everyone has heard or witnessed examples of honor, integrity, and honesty in the shooting sports. Golfers often have to pay a price and do the honorable thing, but I think we put golfers to shame. There are numerous examples in the forum, but I think they are scattered. Let's post 'em here!
  23. Awesome post! .40AET makes a good point that honor usually isn't rewarded in the real world, but the purpose of being honorable isn't to get rewards. I've read a few anecdotes on this forum describing extreme examples of honor in our sport. I am going to start another thread to try to collect them in one place.
  24. I have a Pioneer DVR that uses the free TV Guide listings for programming. Football games screw up the recording, 'cause it doesn't adjust if the show starts late. About once a month the listings crash and you have to manually reset it so it'll download them again. Still, it's an awesome toy.
  25. Well, training a class of instructors already ranked high in USPSA makes a lot of the job easy. Tim, Kyle, BJ, and Lucie are going to be great instructors.
