  1. Hi, I've been loading with Hornady Action Pistol bullets for most of my shooting. I've now run into a few ranges (indoor and outdoor) that will not let me shoot 'hollowpoint" bullets. Looks like I'm going to have to load some FMJ or Jacket Soft Point bullets. Is there any difference in accuracy between these types of bullets? I'm thinking about trying out some Zero JSP bullets. Seems like a lot of people I met at Steel Challenge are using them. Thanks, Itchy

  3. S&J charges roughly $1750 for their open steel glock 17. That includes a new G17. Itchy
  4. Which magwell do you like? Which material? Why?
  5. Last year, I believe she was shooting either a 9x21 or 9x23 (can't remember) with a Carver mounted C More, KKM barrel and comp. There were pictures in Front Sight Magazine. Itchy
  6. I think I'm going to use a slide mounted optic, so I hopefully I won't have ejection or holster issues. Speaking of mounts have you guys seen Julie Goloski's open gun? I think the cases are ejected through an opening in the mount. Talk about fine tuning. You can see a pic of it on her website. NHO, How does the aluminum threading hold up compared to titanium? Thanks, Itchy
  7. Just received an email from Brian. He is not taking any new orders until next year. =( Itchy
  8. Following the "letter of the law", crossing state lines into California with high capacity magazines is a no no. You can't even "loan" high capacity magazines to people. Silly, I think. Does that make us all felons? Itchy
  9. Just got mine in the mail today. Dropped it in and dry fired. All I can say is, "Dammit, I should have ordered one of these before Steel Challenge." It's scary smooth. I shoot a stock trigger and usually prep the trigger. Now I need to retrain my finger. Feels like an HK P7 trigger. It's an excellent value! Itchy
  10. uscbigdawg, When you say "out of whack", are you talking malfunctions? eric, Why is the slide mounted sight more accurate? Funny thing is that I actually prefer a lower mounted sight, since I've only shot iron sights thus far. Is there such thing as taking too much weight off of a slide? I had a friend (Alan Tanaka of PPC revolver fame) take some material off of a G17 slide and mount a JPoint. Now I've decided I want a comp. Probably went about things in the wrong order. Brian Hawley's work looks awesome!! His website says he's not taking any orders at this time. Anyone know if this is current? Thanks, Itchy
  11. Hi, Thinking about building a compensated gun around a G17 slide, to shoot steel. Are there any preferred compensator designs for open guns that don't need to make a specific PF? Thanks, Itchy
  12. Thanks Bob, I actually spoke to you at the Steel Challenge table. I was the one who asked you about John B, Bob W, and Mike I. I guess it's time to drive out to 29 palms. I guess I should bring all of my Glock 17 pieces and see if we can make a gun with them. Thanks, Itchy
  13. Thinking about building a compensated gun for shooting steel, most likely in 9mm. What are the main differences/advantages between a hybrid comp versus a comp at the end of the barrel? Will a compensator work at "factory" 9mm velocities? Or will I need to load closer to 9 major? Thanks, Itchycarwash
  14. Let's see, which holsters do I have? I have a 10 year old blade tech for a G19, 2 Comp Tac holsters (G19, G34), and 2 Ky-tac holsters (G17, G34) and a FED Paddle from Galco (leather, thumbbreak). For competition, the Ky-tac is the fastest, then Comp-tac, then blade-tech and Galco. The Ky-tac has the least retention and the Blade-tech has the most (of the kydex holsters). The Comp-tac is in between, but you can loosen the retention screws that grab the trigger guard. The Blade-tech has the least amount of tension adjustment. You can order a Ky-tac holster for IDPA or USPSA. IDPA is legal for USPSA, but the opposite is not necessarily true. The IDPA holster sits a little bit closer to the body. Some rule about "seeing light" through the belt loop. It is still very fast. The only drawback, I waited 4 months for the holster. Comp-tac was delivered within a week. I ordered the locking paddle, as recommended by Matt Burkett. It's a little bulky, but still a great holster. Be aware that belt loops may interfere with adjustability. I used a Blade-tech for many years. It has a good combination of speed and retention. If you are looking for speed, I'd probably choose another holster, but if you have to climb walls, crawl around, etc. I'd go with Blade-tech. I don't know how long the wait is because I got my holster directly from Tim Wegner, while shooting at Gunsite. He actually drove down with a car full of products. You can also order Blade-tech items from Brownell's. Hope this helps somebody.
  15. I placed an order for 2 holsters (SH3) and 4 mag pouches back in April and have yet to receive them. I even called him to add another holster and mag pouch order. I guess the wait is pretty standard. It's really frustrating since I was hoping to use this for the Steel Challenge this year. Dave's holsters were recommended by John Farnam, whom I respect greatly. With such great references as Farnam, Sevigny, and Goloski, I'd think his turn around time would be a little quicker. I shoot with both Bladetech and Comp-tac hoslters and they are both great. Since I had heard good things about Kytac I wanted to give them a try too.

    G34, G35 Holster

Try Mitch Rosen. I've used one of his USD hoslters for 6 years for a small frame auto. Most comfortable holster I've ever used. I've used Blade-tech, Ted Blocker, Galco, and a few others. You may have to change models for a G34, since it's much larger.
