  1. After spending $500 on the BarSto gunsmith fitted barrel, I think the APEX drop-in is a steal, provided it's as good as they claim to be. I think the drop-in is not truly a "drop-in" like KKM or StormLake, but requires some simple fitting by yourself.
  2. I have pre-ordered the 5'' drop-in from Brownells. Once I get it, I will compare that with the KKM and BarSto I have and report back. Here is the pic from APEX FB page:
  3. Randy updated on the other forum that their target releasing date is 12/7.
  4. Looks very interesting. Where can I buy one of these?
  5. Thanks for the insight As long as the classifier database is not being constantly adjusted to place shooters into a bell curve based on the times from all recent classifier submissions, I am fine with others reshooting as many times as they like, because we are competing with just some numbers, not other shooters in these classifiers
  6. I guess the key question to the USPSA classification system is whether shooters are competing with other shooters, e.g. a hard distribution curve, or shooters are competing with just some numbers that were pulled out of somewhere.
  7. I assumed the HHFs are calculated based on the distribution curve of past classifier results among the members. If not, then there is little risk of tilted standards due to the unlimited reshoots by some people, unless HQ wants to keep the class distribution under a hard curve.
  8. I shot IDPA for a year and just came over to USPSA. This whole "classifier reshoot at will" thing puzzles me. Everyone say USPSA classification system is more accurate than IDPA. Maybe so, but IDPA does not allow you to reshoot any stages in a classifier. Sure you can go to classifier matches over and over again, but still most clubs host classifiers only once or twice a year. And once you are there, you get only 1 chance, even if your gun malfunctioned. I believe the rule should explicitly say up to 2 times in the event of gun malfunction only. However, that may well be the last straw for someone who are hitting a wall trying to get to the next class for a long long time. Making the rule explicit may well lose some membership, while keeping the rule as is will not harm anyone except causing some confusions. From the longevity of USPSA POV it makes sense to keep the rule a bit implicit Unless this problem runs rampant at a large percentage, the folks who shoot only once are just being measured with a slightly tilted standards which is not a big deal.
  9. I have tried the P320 and I liked it. Especially the trigger that resets itself for dry fire. That's pretty cool. However, as it stands, I do not see major value props for someone shooting G34/MP9 Pro/XDM for years to switch platform. Same feeling when I tried the PPQ M2 5''. They are good addition for new shooters to consider. I do look forward to the "next best new" P320 form Sig. Maybe they will make a steel framed 42oz striker fire P320 with adjustable rear/FO front, monstrous mag well/mag release button, easy to reach slide stop, slide with lightening cuts and match grade barrel
  10. Please everyone who are sponsored Sig shooters put a disclaimer before their posts? Thanks.
  11. In my first USPSA match last weekend, I saw at least 4 malfunctions during the classifier stage, ranging from C to GM class. Not a single shooter asked for a re-shoot. I wonder maybe the reshoot policy is not well communicated down to the local club level. As a newbie, I think reshoot or no reshoot either way is perfectly fine as long as all clubs are executing the rule consistently. I can see how the pool is diluted and the times tilted if some clubs allow unlimited reshoots while others do not even know about the possibility of reshoots.
  12. I have very small hands with short fingers. I have tried many guns in search for the best fitting production gig for myself, including the popular CZ SP01 Shadow, Tanfo Stock 2/3, Glock 17/34, MP9 Pro and PPQ M2 and more. My first hand experience is that your wife is likely to be most comfortable with MP9 Pro and PPQ M2. PPQ M2 has the largest slide stop so slide lock reloads would be much easier for small hands/short fingers - in case she also plays IDPA.
  13. Not sure if the "tool head clamp kit" is a good idea... I contemplated getting it for my 650 that seems to have some play between the toolhead and the machine, but after reading the following I gave that idea up. The interesting thing is, UniqueTek also offers a "floating toolhead" that is said to move around for best concentricity during seating. Not clear why they offer products with totally conflicting concepts. Maybe the optimal approach is to fix solid some dies but let others float around? One big difference between your loads and mine is that I use coated bullets. Maybe the powder is not the reason, but the coating of the bullets makes the difference?
  14. Not 5 years, more like 10 months I think. Started with IDPA last Summer after I bought my first competition handgun, an MP9 Pro. Have always wanted to try USPSA and finally got a taste. I think I just got lucky on the classifier stage. "Can you count" itself has a very high HF, and my draw/reload went almost as smooth as my practice times All in all I feel IDPA and USPSA both require you get the hits (with some patience) and be fast in the non-shooting stuff.
  15. I shot my first ever USPSA match yesterday. Sight picture inpatience caused 1 hit on a noshoot at a fast entry position. Obviously in USPSA there is no shoot-through so the target behind the no-shoot got a mike on it... huge penalty and great lesson to learn. That single mistake caused me the match win in production division. Only 2 match points from the #1. Good news is on the classifier stage I got a 14 hit factor probably M/GM percentage
  16. No, unless your outer belt will also pass through pant loops. I know DAA belt won't.
  17. This appears to be the only aftermarket barrel with a twist rate of 1:10. BarSto, KKM and StormLake are all 1:16 or 1:18. I wonder if the 1:10 will stabilize the 147gr better at low PF.
  18. Damn... I should have tried some other triggers before selling the CZC SP01 Shadow. Not sure what trigger the Cabela's 75B has, but it certainly would work for me with some practice!
  19. I checked my CZC invoice, and my SP01 Shadow custom had "Com p Trigger CZ Pre B". Is that a longer reach version?
  20. I had the CZC SP01 Shadow custom for a couple weeks before I sold it. The reason was that I have short finger and could barely reach the DA trigger with the tip of my finger. However, today I was browsing at Cabela's store and they have the CZ 75B on sale. I tried it and was surprised that I could semi-comfortably reach the DA pull, though the pull was like 20lbs. In case you may ask, the hammer was fully down, not at half-cocked position. I wonder if the 75B and SP01 Shadow have different frame size? If so, is it possible to get a SP01 Shadow on 75B frame? Thanks.
  21. I loaded a few thousands rounds in hot Texas summer when I first got V320. I chronoed them under 98-100F temperature and got avg 880fps (10 rounds) with a decent standard deviation of 7.5. Now a few months passed, and temperature has dropped significantly. I took some of those rounds and chronoed them again under 60F with the same chronograph. The avg now is 860fps with a 8.8 standard deviation for 10 rounds. This renders all these rounds useless for major matches (assuming the matches are 60F weather) because it is too close to the PF floor. Is this normal? I thought V320 is less temperature sensitive than Titegroup and other powders?
  22. For USPSA/IDPA, I would be more than happy to get <2'' grouping @25 yards with the semi drop-in. I currently have a Bar-Sto match target barrel fitted to my slide by BarSto. Yes it can do 2'' @25 yards, but it is very expensive, about the same cost as a brand new MP9 Pro 5'' gun. Bar-Sto also sells a drop-in version that does not require gunsmith fitting but I doubt it could do 2'' @25 yards. APEX appears to be on track filling this sweet spot of "highly accurate drop-in" (does such thing really exist?), provided it does not cost more than the pistol itself...

  24. Thanks a ton. It looks like they are about the same, as many predicted.
  25. I thought all Stock 2s here are large frame? Maybe some Stock 3s are small frame, but I also heard small or large their exterior are about the same. Thanks.
