  1. I have a Winchoke from Cadiz gun works that is extended and has correct threads for a Saiga/ Molot muzzle brake. Also, as I have just answered on your other post, Tooth and Nail Armory has just designed a mid-barrel comp and I believe is beginning to sell them. The only problems with the Cadiz choke are that it will want to rotate, so you need to red locktite it in, and that it only comes in cylinder bore. The GK-01 comp actually does work.
  2. Tooth and Nail armory just came out with a mid-barrel comp. They are also selling replacement barrels if you didn't want to do it on you current barrel.
  3. I use a stick on bifocal lens that I got off of ebay, stuck to the upper left corner of my glasses (I am right eye dominant). These lenses are plastic and stick to the lens of the glasses after wetting them with water. Because they are plastic, they can also be trimmed with a sharp scissors. I have only used these when shooting with a pistol, but they seemed to work when I have dry fired my shotgun and rifle.
  4. I have a stupid question. I reload so I would like to know how one makes dummy rounds? I too have been trying to get some and thought about making them myself. Is there something special that you fill the hull with? Thanks!!
  5. I agree with Bryan 45, however you will probably want to change the muzzle brake to something like and SJC or Rolling Thunder, etc. There is a company that has all the stuff required to do the change @ www.NoKick.com. You will also probably want to change the mag release. I would recomend the Sadlak extended release, that you can find at Brownells or Midway U.S.A. If you are going to run an optic, you will need a scope mount. There are lots of those on the market. An interesting design comes from Canada. It replaces the rear sight and uses it to secure the mount. You can find it by typing in M1a scope mount from Canada (sorry, I don't know the web address). Lastly a few 20 and 25 round mags from a place like www.44mag.com and you will be set except for the cost of the practice and match ammo...
  6. Kampr, Thanks for posting the video! Jim, thanks for making the video! Z
  7. I have no concept of how to tune the mags. Can anyone tell me what to look for and what to do? Thanks, Z
  8. Benny, What do you charge to mill the lower receiver? Do you also cut the forearm?
  9. I took the Akdal out last weekend. I shot about 100 rounds of the Walmart Federal Bulk ammo. I had no problems with the factory 10 round or the Salem6 converted 5round mag. I did not clean it since I used it in the match that I referred to at the beginning of this thread, so I don't really know what is going on with it. Hopefully, it will work 100% now. Except probably when I use it in a match!
  10. Call Roulette Tactical. I sent them the old style Nordic Tube for measurements and thread size so I know he has the specs. He did make me a couple of things that would fit the old style tubes, and matched the diameters perfectly. The end caps he has on his website are for the Versa Max.
  11. When I first recieved my gun back from Firebird, I took it apart cleaned it and reassembled it with the reduced power recoil spring. It ran 100%, except with BP slugs. I ran about 100-125 rounds through it, so when I took it apart again to clean it, I read the instructions from Jim about the gas system, and it said to use the original spring, so not wanting to damage anything, I put it back in. I was not able to shoot it again until the match, which is when I started having problems with the feeding. Stupid, I know, but I wasn't able to get to the range again. At the match, I talked wiht a well known gunsmith who uses this same gun, and he said that he had problems with his gun, because the mags were rocking too much, and he showed me what he did to get most of the movement out of his mags. He uses 3, 5 round mags welded together. I think I will speak with Jim or Nancy and see if a reduced power spring will damage the HEOS gas system. @LoganBillJ: I was using Walmart bulk Federal #7/12 at testing and at the match. No slugs were used at the match..
  12. I was having problems with the gun not picking up the next round, maybe short stroking? I have reduced power recoil spring and was thinking about trying it, but I am concerned about having the HEOS gas system and using the weaker spring set-up.
  13. As Amerflyer48 said, JP used to sell a comp that was really effective (or atleast I thought it was). It looks like R&R has one for their Saigas that is very similar in design to the JP. Although you can't really see it, the JP comp also vents the gasses slightly upward to give the gun some down force. I for one would be really interested in one like the JP for my Akdal.
  14. I shot my MKA in a 3 gun match a few of months ago and haven't fiddled with it since. I had some problems with feeding which I think may be related to the magazines rocking forward and backward, or that I had only about 150 rounds through it, and it still needs to be broken in. The Molot brake works great, but it will unscrew itself, and get loose if it is not red locktited in. I have a "Dead Mule" recoil reducer in the stock tube. It doesn't seem to help though. For magazines, I have factory 10 rounders, Salem6 extenders for the factory 5 rounders, and one extension from Roulette tactical. Does anyone have problems with the magazines "rocking" and causing feeding problems? I still think that this gun kicks less than my other shotguns, but I am not usually recoil sensitive. I have been thinking about getting a vented poly-choke to use with this gun, but at this point, I am not sure if I am going to keep it. Anyone want to buy an Akdal? Here is a pic of my gun.
  15. Yes I know about the aftermarket handguard barrel nuts. I just bought a A P Customs Carbon unit that says to use a mil-spec barrel nut. Another assembly goes over this barrel nut to mount the handguard to. I was wondering if there was such a thing. Thanks
  16. Is there such a thing as a non-mil-spec or commercial barrel nut for an AR 15 delta ring?
  17. Hi, I am looking for the manufacturer of this scope mount. It was on the prize table at the 2013 Golden Bullet Championships in California. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you, Z
  18. I have both a Benelli M2 (21"barrel) and a Versa Max Tactical (22"). They are both great guns, however, I think the Versa is a better gun. It is heavier, but it cycles fast, and recoil much softer than the Benelli. Both the Benelli and the Versa will need to have the carrier welded up to avoid shredding your thumb. The Benelli will need to have the shell latch worked on for easy loading, although I have heard that some of the Versas will also need to have some modifications done to it, but mine did not need it. Benelli has the name and the romance associated with it, but the Versa is used by Daniel Horner and quite a few of the pro tour guys, and was used by Keith Garcia last year, but I noticed that he is now sponsored by Benelli.
  19. They are back in stock at Brownells and Speedshooters International
  20. Does anyone know if the Blade-Tech Revolution Double Mag pouch will work with STI/SVI magazines? If so which model? I am thinking it would be the one made for the Glock 45/10. I am trying to put together a belt for 3 gun, so I can keep my other one for strictly pistol. Thanks, Z
  21. Hi, Has anyone tried the Xpress Threat Interdiction Sights? How do you like them? Also, does anyone know how they work in comparison with the Dueck Defense Rapid Transition Sights? Thank you, Z
  22. The break I put on the gun was from Carolina Shooters Supply and is meant for the Molot VEPR12 or the Saiga 12, Firebird did not sell the gas system to me separately. I just assembled the remaining pieces as I had a buttstock, pistol grip, muzzlebrake, etc. Here is a photo of the kind of brake I put on my gun. The downside is that you have to use a special WinChoke that has extended threads that are the same as a Saiga 12's externally threaded barrel. This choke only comes in cylinder bore
  23. My other shotguns are a Benelli M2 and a Remington 1187 both with ported barrels, set up for open class. Do you have their gas system? Maybe it's the Carolina Shooting Supply's version of a Molot GK-01 muzzle brake that is on it. I let 3 other people shoot it an they were all amazed at how soft it shot. I was shooting Federal Wally World bulk shells and B&P slugs. Sorry if yours kicks bad...
  24. Does anyone know what kind of case this is?
  25. I just got my MKA back from Firebird, where they milled off the stock and pistol grip, installed their aluminum feed ramp and fire control group. Being a person who likes to work on my own guns, I installed their gas system and handguard. I have to say that their parts and service is second to none. During this process, I spoke to Nanci most of the time, but was able to speak with Jim and one of their workers who's name escapes me right now (sorry). They were the nicest people you ever want to talk to. I was able to test my gun this weekend, and with the muzzle brake that I installed, the gun was the softest shooting 12 gauge I have ever shot. Everything worked great! Can't wait for the next 3 gun match. Thank you Firebird!
