  1. So I loaded up some LSWC to see how I liked them. Seem pretty accurate, I really like the recoil impulse. I shot 4 stages last night and had at least 1 round on each stage skip under the extractor then get jammed on the feed ramp as the extractor hit it. It took precious time obviously to clear that so that was no fun. So my question is primarily, is that due to the round being too short where it's coming up at too steep an angle and missing the extractor? Obviously mags play a factor (Checkmate Hybrids) and the gun does as well (Dan Wesson Valor), but my initial question, just thinking it through it seems logical that the ammo is too short. what OAL do you load your LSWC to get them to feed? These are set to 1.225, but due to mixed brass, some wind up a little shorter/a little longer.
  2. So over the past year I have basically moved the pendulum from "only plastic guns" to " maybe for a pocket carry piece, but that's it". All the plastic guns have stopped having any appeal for me... I don't think they bad or anything, but I can't feel the difference in my day to day for the extra handful of ounces... Anyone have a similar experience? Sent from an iDevice. Please forgive any grammatical or spelling errors. If the post doesn't make sense or is not amusing then it is technology's fault and most certainly not operator error.
  3. So you've done this with the P09 and now the 85.... which do you prefer?
  4. While I don't think 8 rounds in CCP makes sense, it should be 10 as well, 10 makes sense due to states with mag bans. And where would S&W Indoor Nationals be held if the capacity requirement went up? Plus, in a sport where the largest stage is 18 shots, it's not that big a deal, really.
  5. IDPA gets you ready for the streets brah! said gamer 1 to gamer 2.
  6. I carry a 75 Compact (total gem), and compete with a Dan Wesson Valor at present. Next year I'll get back in the 9 game with an SP01 of some stripe. That said, I don't have too much issue going between a my 2.25# comp trigger that moves like a millimeter, my 12# or whatever DA or my 5# creepy SA. That said, a year ago I had problems going between my game gun Glock trigger and my more or less stock carry trigger on my carry Glock. Since refining my trigger press I can pretty much shoot anything reasonably accurate and fast out of the gate, since it's all fundamental. And despite what Mas Ayoob has contributed to the common knowledge of handgunning, I think that some of what he advocates has started to move into the realm of "thats the way we used to do things".
  7. I had a rear sight on my Valor that obviously wasn't loc-tite'd. In an IDPA classifier I had it finally break loose and start to drift, right before the 3rd stage with the 20 yd shots.
  8. Could you take a picture of the part you slicked up on #2?
  9. Using the disks, yes, I have maybe 1 charge out of 20 that is .2gr heavier, however using the Adjustable Charge Bar, it's more consistent, generally. It seems to do better with small ball powders than flake powders (TiteGroup / 231 vs. 700x)
  10. I would have thought that CCP is like THE division that embodies the spirit of IDPA, but at the next Tier 2 match I'm shooting there are fewer people signed up to shoot CCP than there are REV. Is CCP catching on in your area? Why do you think it wasn't better received? Personally, shooting a 5" gun and hosing targets is a lot more fun to me so I "get it". EDIT: Totally posted this in the wrong sub forum. I can't move it, can someone move it?
  11. http://www.brocksgapidpa.com/ Anyone shooting this? I'm signed up.
  12. Thanks! Do you know how wide the magwell is? Also, what material is the plug portion of the magwell made out of? They say no weighted grip plugs, but most companies have metal plugs that the magwell then attaches to...so I'm confused about this. Can you email HQ for clarification? He assured me it was IDPA legal, it was very narrow side to side so I don't think you'd run against "box" issues either. It is a very discreet magwell but it improved my grip on the gun with his medium beavertail. As high speed as that Agency Arms website is, I bet they could give you more info than you want on it.
  13. SO a buddy of mine showed up to the match last night with a magwell on his 19. He got an Agency Arms magwell. They make magwells that accommodate backstraps even. The biggest plus is the bottom of the magwell keeps you from pinching on magazines and acts as a nice little extra finger groove to force the gun back into the webbing of your hand, made the 19 fell really good, and that is a gun I generally don't like.
  14. RE: the safety prime, I had a similar issue until i got my bracket dialed in. With the ram all the way up, loosen up the bracket and adjust the angle to get it just so. Now that I have mine set, I've not dropped another primer, and that was 2k+ rounds ago.
  15. What is your methodology for setting up a Lee PAD? I found out the hard way that just jiggling the powder hopper then filling a case 10 times will get consistent results... for jiggling the powder hopper like that. The powder charge was .2-.3 heavier in actual operation (with a flake powder, specifically 700x). With small ball powder I could get it pretty consistently to what I wanted (Titegroup / 231). I've recently made the decision to go back to small ball powder for consistency sake. Do you have any "Pro Tips" you have for getting your PAD dialed in? For 45 I use the Adjustable Charge Bar as the 4 grain + loads seem to do well with it.
  16. As long as you are using a small ball powder the Lee Turret isn't that bad for light shooting. That said, I have a lee turret and am looking at stepping up to a dillon at the end of the year.
  17. I'm looking at going shorter anyway, save a little bit on powder. The lyman manual listed everything as 1.276, so I loaded a bunch up to not quite that (1.265-1.270 depending on the session).
  18. Definitely give me an update when you get done with that!
  19. Down and Left is classic trigger yanking problems for a righty, as long as you're sure it's the sight and not the technique. Yours Truly, Former 1911 trigger yanker.
  20. As a righty, you don't get to drop mags with trigger finger, he's lefty, so there you go.
  21. That's trigger pull problems, not likely the gun. Focus on pulling the trigger just barely hard enough to make the gun go off and pressing the trigger straight back (helps to not bend at joint near the tip of your finger)
  22. Yeah the guys who talk about the streets are a bit of a downer.
