  1. I never shoot the classifier as well as I shoot matches. The reason? It's the only match where every stage is Limited..... This is never the case at sanctioned matches, and it makes a difference in how a stage is approached, at least for me. I've never shot the classifier above mid-range EX...... Andy C.
  2. Shooting strong hand, I cant only slightly, maybe to 11:00. Shooting weak hand, I cant more, perhaps to 2:00, and the main reason is to bring the sights in line with my dominant eye. Andy C.
  3. Vincent!! He's shooting a GLOCK!!! He don't need no steenkeeng mag brush!! Just kidding. It's a good idea! Andy C.
  4. That was a good post! I agree with it completely!! Andy C.
  5. My understanding is that when you are actually pulling the trigger, you will naturally hold your breath. Some people evidently hold their breath throughout a course of fire, which could be a real problem, depending on length. Great! One more thing to think about! Andy C.
  6. I didn't say 5 fps, I said 5 pf. I seriously think if you were to do a scientific test of shooting 9mm factory vs. 9mm at 125 pf, the differences would be so insignificant that it wouldn't matter. Heck I go back and forth in ESP between shooting a 130 pf 9mm load and a 170 pf 40 that I don't see any differences in my times. Sorry about the misread.... But to the point, if there is a difference, it is no longer insignificant to a competitive shooter. Andy C. This is exactly what I am saying... I'm not in favor of raising the PF or anything of the like, but I'm not going to try and poohpooh the fact that the ability to shoot a lower PF does provide an advantage..... however miniscule for some shooters. Rather than trying to cater to those who can't or won't reload, or trying to penalize those of us who do, let's just leave well enoguh alone and hope that those who can't/won't will see the light and start to support the reloading industry!! Andy C.
  7. I tend to agree. My impression has always been that, at a certain skill level, you get to the point that differences in recoil level don't make as much difference as they do to people at the lower skill levels. I think that is a major point that shouldn't be overlooked. Most of us aren't "... at (or above) a certain skill level...." but decidedly below that skill level. There, the difference can be startling. Andy C. 5 feet per second is negligable. Now try the difference between just over 125, and 185. Let me know how that comes out. And no, it won'tmake you (or me)shoot like Rob Leatham. Andy C.
  8. That's all well and good, and I agree with much of what you say. But now let's compare someone shooting a chopped and modified G21 loaded with 185 PF ammo vs. another fellow shooting a G35 loaded to 127, both of equal skill, both in ESP. Which do you think has the advantage? Lower PF DOES provide an advantage. Whether the shooter has the ability to begin with is completely independant of that, it's just one factor in the entire equasion. In the end, a 125 PF allows the shooter greater range of choice. If I want to shoot 125.5 PF, I can. If I want to go atomic, I can, it's my choice, and I have to accept the consequences. IMO, that's the way it ought to be. Andy C.
  9. S&B .38 Sp. 158 gr., either FMJ or LRN both made PF out of my 3" S&W M13. Andy C.
  10. I have an idea! IDPA should provide every shooter at a sanctioned match with identical ammo meeting "full power" specs. They could include the cost of the ammo in the match fee. Andy C.
  11. I'm shooting a 24 in Lim. and my experience has been EXACTLY the same as yours. I tried out a friend's 35, but it felt snappy to me. My 24 is set up exactly like yours, no frills. I do have a lot of grip tape and an extended mag release, otherwise no different, and I am enjoying that pistol! I don't notice any nose-heaviness, and so far I've not been able to outrun the slide. So far it has been 100% reliable. Great gun! Andy C.
  12. I'm running a G24 with Dawson basepads and innards. When I started I could only get 18 in each one. Now I can get 19 in about half of them. I just load the chamber and live with 20 in the gun. Andy C.
  13. I enjoy shooting both IDPA and USPSA. I like the equipment and rule requirements found in IDPA, and I like the high round count and flexibility of USPSA. I try to keep the goals and skills for both sports seperate. In IDPA, the course is scripted so that the entire difference between the winner and the loser is dictated by knowledge of the rules, and shooting ability. An IDPA shooter who shoots USPSA by IDPA rules will lose. A USPSA shooter who shoots IDPA using USPSA rules will lose. It's that simple. Apples, oranges. I like both! Andy C.
  14. Mike; if you want to buy new mag holders, go ahead, but there is a simple fix for your Comp-tacs. I had the same problem with a few of mine, and it can be fixed and you can save some money. Do you have females in your family? Then you almost certainly have access to a hairdrier. If you can get your hands on one, do this: Insert an unloaded magazine into the mag holder. Turn the hairdrier on to its hottest setting, and set it right up close to the bottom of the mag holder, where the two bottom flanges come together to close the bottom of the mag. Let the mag holder get good and hot, this may take a few minutes. Every now and then, push down on the magazine so it puts pressure on the flanges at the bottom of the holder. You want to *very carefully* spread those flanges so they allow the magazine to sit lower in the mag holder. Kydex is easily manipulated when it is hot, so this should be an easy fix for you. I fixed half a dozen mag holders just this way for my CZ and my Glock mag holders. No reason it won't work for single stack holders as well. Personally, I prefer single mag pouches. I prefer them because they allow you more freedom to position the holders around belt loops, etc. Also, I have found that many types of double mag-holders sit too close together, and can make it difficult to access the front mag properly. Even worse, with some mag holders, it is possible to knock the back one out and drop it when pulling the front one. Just my experience, here. Definitely get the eight round mags. No reason to short yourself shooting a full-sized 1911. Most people prefer vests for their concealment garments. I use the same ones on the street that I shoot from in matches. My favorite vests came from here: www.concealedcarryoutfitters.com I wear glasses also, and just use them for protection on the range. Have fun, be safe! Andy C.
  15. Oh...no, not at all. Somebody will come along, do a search and find this thread, then continue the discussion. Anyway, back to the thumbsafety issue.... I have difficulty with keeping my thumb on the safety while firing because I have small hands and a pronounced hitch-hiker's thumb. To keep my thumb in place while firing, I have to exaggerate my strong hand grip, which leads to all kinds of goofy things happening.... Just another reason I don't shoot 1911 or 2011 style pistols.... Andy C.
  16. Steve, let's try Limited and Lim. 10 this year! I did the Prod., Lim 10 last year also. Andy C.
  17. Jake Di Vita Posted Today, 07:40 PM How about you just shoot the classifier faster with fewer points down. Ack!! The burdens I must bear!! Andy C.
  18. Shooting the Classifier for me has been an exercise in frustration since I first began shooting IDPA in '99. I have never shot the Classifier better than mediocre EX in any division. I have only moved up at matches. I'm SSP MA, ESP EX. Some call me a sandbagger because I won't move myself up in ESP, but honestly I haven't put much time into that division. Only last year did I become half-way serious about it, in between USPSA matches (Prod B, Lim. . Shot the Classifier today. Here are the results: Stage One S1: 2.59 S2: 2.74 S3: 2.78 S4: 5.86 S5: 3.47 S6: 7.03 S7: 4.38 5PD = 2.5 Total: 31.35 Stage Two S1: 4.11 S2: 3.96 S3: 8.49 S4: 4.88 11PD = 5.5 Total: 26.94 Stage 3 S1: 15.17 S2: 17.55 S3: 6.10 4PD = 2.00 Total: 40.82 Total PD: 20 Match Total: 99.11, 10 points off of MA. Guess I need to shoot the 1st and 2nd stages faster, and the 2nd Stage with fewer points down. Maybe I just need to shoot the whole match faster, with less concern for points down. Maybe I need a different gun? I shot my G17, which is my SSP gun. Only difference is a magwell. Hmmmmm. I don't practice the Classifier at all, as I said I only have moved up at matches. Now with seemingly fewer EX and MA class shooters coming to matches, I don't know when I'm gonna bump. Andy C.
  19. I used to have problems with primers getting stuck in primer tubes on a regular basis. I'd blame it on the tubes, I'd blame it on the primers, I'd cuss and complain... Then I realized what was causing the problem. I have a Dillon 650, and it has the little primer catch pocket where primers that don't get seated for whatever reason collect. When reloading I'll occasionally come across cases with crimped primer pockets, so they come around and get set down on the primer next in the primer plate. I can feel when that happens and pull those cases out when they come around, but the primers they come down on collect in the little pocket. Being cheap and not wanting to waste anything, I used to collect those primers and toss them into my primer dish..... bad idea. Thos primers are all just slightly deformed, and they won't slide freely through the tube. Plug it up every time. So, now I just throw them away. Andy C.

  21. I agree. I have small hands, and a pronounced hitch-hiker's thumb, which makes the digit turn away from the mag release. I have to shift my grip on all the autoloaders I own (Glocks, SIGs, 1911s) in order to depress the mag release. It does slow your reload significantly if you can't get your support hand away from the gun as fast as possible. I was trained to shift my grip to hit the release, then regrip the weapon. I can always get it done before my support hand comes back up with the reload. Andy C.
  22. Dang! They could have been nice and at least given you SIX seconds, as they did at the TX State Limited last year. Andy C.
