  1. Don't let one bad experience make you look at the Army in a bad way. I have bad days all the time especially when the Battalion Commander is calling me chewing me out. I look at all the good times that I have each day when I see my Soldiers making things happen and doing the impossible to achieve the mission. I look at the days when everyone's morale is high and they are enjoying their jobs even though we are working longer and harder. Learn from the leaders who lead you know and figure your own leadership style when you make the rank. I have a different leadership style from when I had my first command to my second command. I have a completely different mission and group of Soldiers so the way I interact with them is slightly different. The core values are the same but the leadership style is different. Learn from this experience. Read Schofield's Definition Of Discipline and the 7 habits of highly effective people. If you can't find Schofield's or the 7 habits, let me know and I will post them for you. I will give you a one from the 7 habits that I follow every day. "Seek first to understand, then to be understood." It doesn't seem like it would work in the Army but it has its place in many different situations. Keep your head up and keep driving on. glock17w
  2. I am currently training to run Apsan Mountain. I have my plan in my mind. I am also making my Soldiers do it as well. The course is 4.14 km or 2.58 miles up at a 20% grade one way. Total of over 5 miles with going up just as hard as coming down I have walked it 3 times this week. It took me an hour to go up and about 40 minutes to come down. Hopefully I can be able to run it completely by August or September. I have attached some pictures to give you a view of it. The train up should put me in excellent shape. glock17w
  3. Kamusta ka....mabuti I want to go to the Phillipines. Sounds like fun. glock17w
  4. Congratulations on being able to leave the Land of the Morning Calm so soon. I still have until June 2007. Command is fun but the hours are long. Best of luck to you at Fort Rucker and the rest of your Army career. Have fun in Enterprise. Good luck when you go to Fort Bragg. glock17w
  5. Great job. Only 3 hundreths of a second to shave off. You will hit it soon. glock17w
  6. I am glad I finally sold my house. It was on the market since October. I did it all from Korea. Had a great realtor. I have to tell you it is a pain in the ass to sell a house from overseas. I hope I never have to do it again. I am glad it is all over. The money I made off of it can go to good use now sitting in my bank drawing interest.
  7. Congratulations, Sergeant. I have 3 enjoyable things that I do in the Army as a Company Commander. They are Re-enlistments, Promotions, and Awards. I wish you the best. glock17w

    G35 or G22?

G35. You could shoot G35 in USPSA Production, Limited, Limited 10, and IDPA SSP or ESP. It would be a great all around gun. You could also carry it. The key is to pick one, get used to it, and practice. glock17w
  9. If Jake has the goal to shoot 100+ matches without a penalty, don't tell him that it is impossible and that is not a good goal. Encourage him. I had been told by many different people that I couldn't do something because they thought it was impossible to achieve. My motto is the same as the Adidas motto, "Impossible is nothing." If a goal comes in your mind and you think you can achieve it, go ahead and try. I wish you the best. Even if you don't achieve it but come close to it, you are better than you were the day before. Much better than not setting a goal at all. Jake, I will be checking your website from time to time to check on your progress. I see where you are at 3.08 on the El Prez. Only 9 hundreths of a second from sub-3. Good luck. glock17w
  10. Well said. It is not that the military doesn't want better training. Sometimes the resources are not there. We go where we are told, do what we are told, and do it to the best of our ability with the resources that we have. I want my Soldiers to have the best weapons training that the Army can offer. This is an issue that I think about everyday. I have tons of other stuff I have to balance though. glock17w
  11. How does smoking cigarettes or cigars in between stages effect your shooting? It seems like it calms you down but that is just the mental tricks nicotine play on you. glock17w

    Glock Holsters

Comp-Tac CTAC for my G30. I can carry it all day and sometimes forget that I am carrying.
  13. The Atlanta Arms 9mm 147 gr remanufactured price is $135/1000 plus shipping. I have heard nothing but good thing about Atlanta Arms. glock17w
  14. That's good news. There is hope for me after my 15 month lay off of shooting. glock17w
  15. I concur. It pisses me off to see people without their hands over their hearts, not standing in a manner that shows complete respect, talking, chewing gum, etc when the National Anthem plays. I was taught at an early age to stand at attention while the song is playing. My dad always reminded me that he had a lot of Marine Corps buddies that died for that American Flag and I nor anyone was going to disrespect them. Whenever I see someone messing around during the National Anthem, I always correct them afterwards. glock17w
  16. I put a 13# ISMI in my G17 and I was using full power ammo. John Nagel replaced it with a 15#. The 15# ISMI spring felt much better. I changed to a Stainless Steel guiderod as well. glock17w
  17. The standard time in Korea is usually one or two years depending on whether you bring your family or not. Now you could stay in Korea however long you want to. I know people who have been here for 7 or 8 years. Liota, it was good to talk to you. Whenever I am in Osan, I will give you a holler. Glock17w
  18. I get the opportunity to be a Company Commander again. I commanded a headquarters and headquarters company in Seoul for 9 months. Now I get to command a line Finance Detachment in Taegu, Korea. I am looking forward to it. It will be fun. Can't wait to get back with the Soldiers again. It will be 15 months of fun. glock17w
  19. From the information I have been reading here and in other places, I think I will shoot Open instead of Limited for now. Besides Open looks like it is real fun and I would enjoy the competition that is in the class. I think I have a process of going about this nailed down. I plan to attend a training class from FG or Max and Travis once I get back to the states with my Production gear and shoot the rest of the year with my Production gear. I want to become better shooting with my Production gear first and foremost. All at the same time, I will have my Open gun being built. I will stay with the same platform, Glock. I have had a chance to look at and handle some of S & J Customs Custom Glocks. I will go with them. John Nagel does some great work. Since I plan to shoot Open, I will start reloading again. I will want to get comfortable with reloading again before I start reloading 9mm Major ammo. I will reload my 9mm Production ammo. This process sets me up for success I think. I guess my military mind thinks too much. But I have plenty time to come up with my courses of action while I sit here in the Land of the Morning Calm. I will have everything planned and executed before too long though. Now the big picture is figured out. Have to figure out where I will order my reloading supplies from and the different loads I will use. I guess I will be frequenting the reloading data forum soon. glock17w
  20. I just had my Blood Pressure checked out and it is running high. A little too high. When I saw how high it was, I actually got a little scared. I will have to change my eating habits and get back to running everyday. Hopefully that will lower it some.
  21. The difference of big matches and local matches is comfort level. At your local match, you are comfortable. The people are familiar. You know most everyone there. You know what to expect with the stages. At the big matches, you don't have as much of a comfort level as you do at the local match. One way to combat this is to go to another local match where you do not know anyone and you don't know what the stages might look like. You will get some of the big match anxiety at the local match level. This may help you to shoot your game no matter where you go. This has helped me. I went on a vacation to Hawaii and wanted to shoot and shot a match using a loaner gun and equipment. I shot at GPSL when I came home from leave. Every time I go to a place and there is a local match going on somewhere, I may just show up and shoot it. I get the practice of getting the big match jitters at a local match. Good Training. 22. Thanks for the input. I have been leaning towards Open. I didn't know that Open could improve your skills. I would think that it would be hard to go back and forth from the dot to iron sights. I would get an SJC Open Glock Major running 9mm Major. It would be easier for reloading. I could reload for 9mm Minor for Production and 9mm Major for Open. I would just have to reload basically one caliber per se.
  23. I currently shoot Production now but I would like to venture off into another division. I keep going back and forth between Limited and Open. What are the pros and cons of going from Production to Open?
  24. Happy Lunar New Year from Korea. The streets were empty today in Seoul from everyone traveling south to visit family.
  25. Yeah I learned all about the Axe Murder at the Bridge of No Return. It was LT Bonifas that was killed. They were fighting over a tulip Popular tree that the North Korean Army believed that Kim, Il Sung planted but later when they cut the tree down, they found out the tree was over 200 years old. While our group was in the building that is in both South Korea and North Korea, there were 3 nK guards came over and watched us in the building. They were not happy to see us. Gave us a lot of dirty looks. There is a good book out there that I read, "The Aquariums of Pyongyang" It tells alot of the treatment people get in nK. Katchi Kapshida Kamsamhapnida
