  1. Any (actually all) of the 3 majors at Rio Salado Western States Single Stack Superstition Mountain Mystery 3 gun Area 2/ desert Classic
  2. Lessons learned from the USPSA Nationals: Adjust them and shoot them proir to the match. If I were setting them up for a match I would put a railroad tie in front of them for two reasons. First it would stop the sound from low hits and base hits. Second it would force you shoot them higher making them more reliable.
  3. That would be quite a demotion. Board members get paid nothing.
  4. I see nothing inapproiate about it. I believe as the sport grows we are going to have to start paying key people for running National and area level matches to get us to the next level. Profit is a great motivator.
  5. I was on the USPSA board when the split happened so I can tell you exactly why this is. For many years we used the IPSC rulebook with certain exceptions for the US. These had to be approved by IPSC whenever a new book came out. As the political climate around the world has gotten more anti gun, IPSC has had to sanitize, for lack of a better term, the sport so it can continue in many places. The US does not suffer that problem (yet). So we agreed to have seperate rule books. This allowed IPSC to do what they needed to keep the sport alive around the world and us to practice it as it was origionally intended (sort of). There are many examples of sporting organizations having different rules locally, nationally and internationally so we are not unique in this. Hope that sheds some light.
  6. If I were king of the world the above email would have read, "Find the bastard and shoot him....a lot" This country is clearly going down the wrong path.
  7. ROTFLMAO!!! Best line I've heard this week!!! Ken Seriously? Are you really are so bent out of shape about USPSA that you find enjoyment in that. What, did someone with a USPSA sticker on their truck run over your dog as a kid? USPSA does not have the luxury of being able to change the rules to suit whatever we want at a whim. We are trying to have a set of rules that can be used by all of our clubs to run 3 gun matches. We are not just one match. Believe it or not there are clubs and ranges that need to be part of an org like USPSA in order to even have a match at their range. The constant nit picking and gloating over any issues we have had trying to get our rules to work is really not productive for anyone. I don't shoot cowboy, international Trap or IDPA but I hope they are successful in promoting their particular diciplines. Why do you and a few others on these forums seem so dedicated to our failure? If you don't like USPSA then don't shoot the matches. I like the non uspsa 3guns and shoot them and support them. Why can't you guys do the same or at least don't trash us. There is room for all of us. To answer the origional question in this thread, there is an org dedicated to 3gun/multigun. It is called the United States Practical Shooting Association. By the way we are also dedicated to practical pistol, steel challenge and support the efforts of any organization dedicated to any shooting sport. United we stand Divided we fall.
  8. I think only one group calls them "outlaw". You can't be an outlaw match if you were there first. An outlaw pistol club for example uses USPSA rules, but doesn't belong let alone pay the activity fees to USPSA. USPSA is a johnny-come-lately in 3-gun isn't it? No USPSA and IPSC have had 3gun for years. I shot 3gun under IPSC rules since the early 90's. WE got started late with multigun.
  9. This thread has really drifted from my origional question. It sees there are very few rules deemed unnecessary. Actually there was more call for new ones. So our rules vary a little from the other big 3gun events about as much as they do from each other. So why is the USPSA Nationals losing attendance? BerKim hit it on the head. Also along the same lines, what do all the big 3 gun matches have what we don't? A dedicated match director and staff that is there year after year that work year round to produce great matches. Sadly that is what we are lacking in USPSA right now and it is a very frustrating position for me as a Board member especially. There are 2 Board members who have stated in this thread they are ready to throw in the towel on 3gun. I thought we put on a pretty good Nationals this year reversing the trend of the last few years. I think it is important for USPSA to be involved in 3gun and continue hosting a National Championship. Now that I have drifted my own thread about as far from the origional question as I can, I will now go pound my head into a wall for awhile and then try to see if we can continue to improve USPSA 3 gun.
  10. I hear a lot of comments that USPSA has too many rules but never any specifics. Specifically list the rules you have a problem with or think are not needed. Also let's leave the scoring system out of this.
  11. On the bright side, I am very encouraged by the recent effort by several shooters and clubs to bring this game to the attention of the local news media. These news clips with the "local shooter heading to national championship" stories might be the harbinger of a new upswing of mainstream interest in the stuff we do. Let's hope! Mike That is also comming out of headquarters in the form of press releases. Paul Erhardt is working with us on that.
  12. Here is a concept I am looking at bringing up to the Board reguarding USPSA multi gun matches. I am proposing a rule to allow matches to make limited and heavy metal divisions into catagories if participation does not warrant them being stand alone divisions. This way there will be recognition for irons and the HM guys. I know a catagory is not really the same as a division but it beats just getting dumped into tactical and forgotten. Input?
  13. Thank you all for the bday wishes. Tried my hardest to pretend it never happened. So i must now embrace it, I guess.
  14. I can guarantee there won't be any of those things at Nationals. Not a legal target for USPSA.
  15. Who is "us". But let me throw a wrench into the UPSPA 3-gun gears. I am hearing that there is talk about banning compensators on 3-gun TACTICAL DIVISION rifles. Is this correct? I am planning on stooting in the TACTICAL DIVISION, and I would hate to have my rifle set-up in a way that I will eventually need to re-modify. In Christ: Raymond Where does this stuff come from? THERE ARE NO PLANS TO BAN COMPS IN TACTICAL.
  16. That is not true any more. If your rifle is registered as an AW in Ca. you can put whatever you want on it. All the federal ban rules no longer apply as the ban no longer exists. If your rifle is not registered then no comment.
  17. First stage ppt3 is illegal. Can't specify headshots. To fix it just put extra targets with heads only for the second string. Second stage ppt2 is ok. Good for a level 1 match. Would never use it in a big match as is. Would build a wall with the barrels in it. Third stage ppt1 looks fun. watch for creating 180 traps.
  18. Check what the weather was doing in Tulsa during Nationals week. IT WAS RAINING!
  19. OK, just got the word from Michael that the Applications are going to be modified to include both Heavy Metal Tactical and Limited DIVISIONS. If you have already signed up headquarters is sending a notice of the error on the app if you want to shoot these divisions, let them know.
  20. My standard reply to this is be prepared to shoot rifle targets from point blank to 350 yards.
  21. You are correct USPSA has provisions for both HM Iron and Optic. The "reason" has nothing to do with a scoring program. My understanding is it is not being recognized "by choice". From the official entry form. Class (circle one): GM M A B C D U Category (circle one): JR SS SR FEM HEAVY METAL Division: Open Standard Tactical Rifle: Major/Minor Pistol: Major/Minor Shotgun: Major No DIVISION for HM Iron or Optic. It makes it difficult to enter a division not available. What light might you shed on this sir? Patrick I have asked the question to those who are higher up the food chain than me. Will keep you posted. Chris
