  1. Hey all, So, I once had an STI Eagle 5.1, got it at a good deal, sold it off at a good deal. I have the itch and really my heart is in the 1911 style so I want another one. Funds aren't great, so I'm trying to get by how I can. I have done a lot of work on my own guns, with some success (issues have been resolved by resorting to the community). So I've got it in my head that I would like to attempt to build a 2011. Buy a frame, a used STI grip and a Para or Caspian slide. Try to fit those, and if that doesn't work well, give it to my local gunsmith to correct. I have fit beavertails, sears and hammers in my own 1911's to my satisfaction. Is this a bad idea? I have considered going the RIA way and buying a double stack to mess around with, but I really want a basic STI style instead. I am very finicky and know that I may regret getting a RIA or Para if I bought one. So I'm siding on not doing that route. Well, if you have an older STI you want to sell, please PM me. ;-) Otherwise, give me some thoughts on this thread to whether or not this is an acceptable idea for a home gunsmith. Obviously I would purchase a slide pre-cut for serrations and sights, as I don't have milling tools. If too much for me, I could pay a gunsmith to fit a barrel and bushing, not a big deal. Well, that gets this off my chest. Let me know what you think. I appreciate any helpful replies and anyone looking to sell a used 2011. =P Aaron
  2. So any recommendations where to get it sent in to be done? In my area (PDX) I don't honestly trust any of the "gun smiths", unless you can prove me otherwise. I don't have a ton of money to spend, but let me know what you think! Definitely want to make it more modern. Thanks! Aaron
  3. Hey all, So, I have an older Colt 1911, not worth a ton due to being refinished years and years ago, but it's a great shooter and I'd like to get a bit more modern sights on it. The front sight is kinda loose so that'll need to be taken care of. They are MICRO brand bullseye style sights. Would prefer to get a bit lower profile but I'm open to what I can do without having to mod it much. I still like an adjustable rear, but if that's too much work then I can forgo it. Anyone have any thoughts and how I should do it?? I'll probably get it refinished anyway since the bluing is coming off in recent years. Thanks!
  4. Sweet guys! I bought it! Got some sweet golf ball VZ grips too! Super excited, not my first CZ or my first CGW parts install, but just need to control my budget and go one at a time. What would be best to start with??? Thanks!! Aaron
  5. $450 like new in box, less than 2 months old... night sites. Maybe could sell those?
  6. Hey all, Considering a local deal on an SP-01 Tactical. I understand the firing pin block is on this model, but for an affordable shooter to do some light USPSA style shooting, would this be an ok model? Not really in the budget to go all out right now, so this one is tempting. Local deal seems to be a good price. If I did get it, what would be the first upgrades to be a little more competitive? Any thoughts? Thanks so much for any feedback!
  7. Wow, didn't realize it was in such demand. Lol Thanks!
  8. Also, if CZ is interesting to you, check out Tanfoglio. Been into those recently and I'm hooked.
  9. Hey all, Have a local store selling a Stock II in hard chrome. Was wondering if the price of $869 was a good local deal or should I be looking online to have one shipped to my FFL? Also, side question, they also have a hard chrome limited pro. Would this be better or just go for the Stock II? It's a 9mm as well. Thanks!!
  10. I had a a400 for awhile but went back to a 391, not enough difference to matter.
  11. Another safety off at unholster and not again till done with course of fire.
  12. You a member anywhere? I'm at Tri-County! Nice to see more locals!
  13. I'd say $500-$600 is what the gun is worth minus upgrades as stores are clearancing them out due to the Mod 2 grips coming out. I can get them for around $650 new in my area.
  14. KKM is nice for no fitting, had a Bar-Sto 357 sig that was fit and shot amazing.
  15. Hey all, Appreciate all the help here, but I do have a question. I have an older, refinished 1911 (not valuable) that I would like to replace the top end on. I'm thinking of ordering a Para slide and get a new barrel and all that. As far as fitting goes, how much will I need to affect the lower of the gun? I'd still like the current upper to be used once in awhile, but it isn't super important. I guess the question is, if I fit a new upper, will it mess up the other upper? Thanks so much everyone!
  16. FIXED IT! Fyi, it was the hammer strut that fixed it. Replaced it and it works. =P Thanks! Aaron
  17. Ok all, update! Got the CGW Sear installed, safety works, but trigger acts the same. Please see attached video... Do I need to take some off the disconnector??? http://youtu.be/PLTYH7qhn1s Thanks for ANYONE's Help!
  18. Well David says to order a CGW sear so we'll see....
  19. Hey all, I'm looking for a bit of help. I have gotten all the upgrades from CGW for my 85 Combat. When I went to install a CZC Race Hammer & CGW Disco, when it is put back together, 1. The Safetys Do Not Move 2. Hammer doesn't fall forward on it's own. It has to be pushed thru to go forward. Did I assemble this incorrectly? Do I need to do some work on the hammer or the disco? The hammer strut might be the slightest bit bent from a horribly stuck hammer pin, but I was pretty sure that got back together correctly. Any tips? Thanks!!!!
