  1. Adrie, I didn't go last year - I had neither the gear nor the experience necessary. But I'm sure gonna work on both now that I get my own SG (should be arriving December 23, a perfect Christmas gift) I also hope to see this match in the calendar. So far there are only three separate Czech National matches planned in the draft calendar - pistol, shotgun and rifle, the results of which will be then added together to find the tournament winners... But I hope there is also a 3-Gun CZEO as well. It would be a shame not to resume last year's success.
  2. I'm looking to get into IPSC Shotgun (Standard Manual) and 3-Gun and have ordered a Winchester 1300 Practical Defender as a decent entry level shotgun. I'm far from believing that mechanical things like guns last forever, so I'd like to keep a few spare parts in stock (otherwise, given the distance, shipping time, possible parts unavailability and all, I could end up waiting for a small part for weeks ...). Since I'm really new to pumps (but I can't wait to get into it) I'd like to ask the resident shotgun experts what spare parts they'd put on the list. Thanks in advance for all replies.
  3. I guess I was wrong there. This thing has become a farce. How about we all calm down and talk the results (when they're finally posted)? BTW, shoot-off videos are up on Saul's website.
  4. Umm ... errrr ... sure, that must be it! Strangely, though, the discussion has strayed from what Julie posted about. If I'm reading her post correctly, she talks more about the attitude she got than about the gun itself. She's saying: 'I felt the gun was illegal. I had the right to file a protest and I did. The protest and the gun in question were considered and a decision was made. Case closed - I don't really like the decision but I respect it.' And I respect Julie for taking it that way. What bothers me more is the animosity towards her that the protest started. Reactions like that are unacceptable, in my book, in the heat of the match or not. What I find surprising is that the same people who talk in their replies about playing by the rules question a decision that was (and nothing indicates otherwise) taken in accordance with the rules. Not to mention that most of us are sitting thousands of miles away from Ecuador, making comments based on an old crappy picture (btw, I also think the gun in the picture looks weird). Although I shoot Production, I don't like the Production rules and their interpretation too much. But they're what we have. Oh, just for the record, I shoot the Glock 17 and Adam is not a buddy of mine
  5. +1 However, any name-calling is still inexcusable. Julie had a right to file the protest when she had a feeling the gun was illegal. No question about that. However (call me cynical), I have no illusions about the timing. Please don't tell me no one had doubted the legality of that gun for the six days before the last stage...But it's a part of the game, I guess. And then again, I may be completely wrong here. The sad thing is that this will probably leave a bitter taste to Adam's result (whether a victory or a top three finish) for a while, but I hope shooters are reasonable enough not to let this evolve into a "cheaters" vs. "crybabies" argument.
  6. I'm sorry if my reply came across as harsh, it wasn't meant to be. I was mainly refering to the fact that Adam seems to have gone unnoticed by many although, after his previous results, he was a name to watch.
  7. It wouldn't be so much of a shocker if people took a better look at the results of matches outside the US. Adam has repeatedly beaten Angus, who is one of the few shooters to get close to DS in the past year or so. Those who have seen Adam shoot know that he possesses the skills to be at least on par with DS. The question is, can he keep the game together mentally?
  8. Hmmm, guess what Adam Tyc is shooting. Yup, CZ. Looks like it's working pretty well.
  9. Spot on. I haven't been in the game too long, only like 16 months, and at the start I was a little frustrated by the behaviour you describe. Unfortunately, the number of morons among shooters only reflects their percentage in the general population, so there's a fair share of them. We just have to run into them more often than we'd enjoy.
  10. Moral of the story: Next time, put your wife on the bus
  11. Slapshot's close, but some parts are Latin combined with English pronunciation. Although even linguists today don't know how the Romans actually pronounced some words, as the spoken language died out and Latin was only passed on in its written form, this is as close as you can get: Diligentia: [dilli-'ghen-tsee-uh] The apostrophy indicates the stressed syllable. Vis: [vees] Celeritas: [tsel-lerit-ahss] - try to pronounce the last syllable with a British accent to get the "ah" part right
  12. I've been in the game for something over a year, shooting Production with a bunch of friends (all LEOs except me). We go to the matches together, shoot on the same squad, watch each other shoot... The funny thing I soon realized was that, although each of us has a different shooting style, background and experience and we don't even practice together, all the four or five of us regularly finished very close together, and often the difference between the first and the last of us was less than 5% of the total score. It was almost ridiculous. What changed things for me was a stage when four of us had a malfunction (two misfires, one FTE, one FTF) in the same place on a long COF. A 120-round match, a 28-round COF and 4 teammates having a malfunction in the same spot! (BTW, none of us had experienced a malfunction of any sort for many months before the match.) None of the guys thought it was weird but it was a turning point for me. The absurd series of malfunctions made me realize...no, I'd suspected the imitation thing before...it made me KNOW I was never gonna shoot "like" someone. Sure, I still watch other guys shoot and try to learn, but I'm more detached from it. Not to mention, shooting and matches have been much more enjoyable for me (plus I've beaten my teammates by a large margin a couple of times since then ) I'm sure it's just "a little thing CzechM8's noticed" for most of you, but it was a major revelation for me. Anyone have a similar experience?
  13. I grab the slide from the top, tilt the gun to the right and pull the slide back - quite slowly. I roll the round in my hand and lift the slide stop lever with my thumb for the slide to lock back. I remove my weak hand from the ejection port, make sure I know where the round is (either in my hand or on the ground), check the chamber and extractor, and show clear. Release the slide, pull it back one more time and then go to "Hammer down, holster". I take it quite slowly, so the whole process may take some 10 seconds or so. (Note: Having read some of the posts, I may have to reconsider the roll-the-round-into-my-hand practice.) IMHO, taking the weak hand off the ejection port is vital. In a match last weekend, a friend of mine got DQed - pulled the slide back, but didn't go all the way and didn't lock it back. The round got stuck in the extractor, but couldn't be seen under my friend's hand. Both my friend and the RO saw the chamber clear only to be surprised by the BANG! on "Hammer down". I've never seen an RO being more sorry about DQing someone - because he knew he'd also played some part in it. But the IPSC rules are quite clear on this, IIRC - the shooter's responsible.
  14. Flex, that might be true within the US (although, supposedly, about 20 SP-01s are waiting for or have received customs clearance and should be ready to be shipped to the people on the factory waiting list within days or weeks). In Europe, from my own limited perspective, I know at least five shooters (in addition to Adam Tyc, the factory team member and European & AustralAsian Champion) who have recently bought the gun. It is available to the civilian shooter. I have actually seen one in a gunshop yesterday - no special order, just come in and buy one. See above. I don't think the rule states that a certain number should be available in the US, does it? Plus, the first production run of about 600 was supposedly prepared for an undisclosed special unit. Sure, you have to wonder why it wasn't disclosed because gun manufacturers usually take pride in what units are using their guns... But whatever the case, the figures should be OK, which is why the gun was approved for Production about eight months ago. I'm not an SP-01 advocate or one of CZ, for that matter. What I'm trying to say is that such attempts to tune the rules to "perfection" without a solid decision making basis work to the detriment of the sport. All these decisions like "Yes...errr..no, just because we managed to come up with new rules to find a reason for the decision...but we don't really apply the rule on all the guns it should be applied to, neither is it a clearly defined rule" just leave a bitter aftertaste. There are rules, so you (being a company) prepare a gun to fit the rules. Nothing wrong with that. But once you've invested all that money in R&D, marketing & advertising, the same people who established the rules give you the finger and are not even able to satisfactorily justify the decision. It wouldn't really surprise me if CZ or Tanfoglio decided to withdraw their sponsorship of the WS.
  15. Wow...I'm sure my LEO teammates, who carry the CZ P-01 on duty and shoot it in IPSC competition will be happy to learn that the dust cover brings them a competitive advantage, in spite the 14-round magazine and the shorter sight radius.
  16. I feel your pain. I'm a translator and interpreter, and translating marketing or PR documents is a major PITA. It's a nice intellectual exercise to try and make the text sound "natural" in my language, plus it pays the bills, but I try to avoid it as much as possible. I think what we're witnessing is an inflation of the language. Somehow, mass media and advertising have caused some words to lose meaning. Words like "dedication", "challenge", "commitment", etc. are virtually empty. They just come in handy when you don't know what you want to say but you just want to look like you do. Then there's the redundancy like "top priority" and the like...Don't even get me started on that :puke icon:
  17. Somehow I can't get the TGO video to play. The other clips work fine.
  18. A great thread about speed and the "changes" thereof: Deconstructing slowing down
  19. Yeah, keep in mind the slight yet substantial differences between USPSA and IPSC. The XD is USPSA Production legal, not IPSC Production legal now. As for IPSC Production legal FO sights, CZ is going to provide the new SP-01 with a FO front sight and it should also become a standard factory option for other CZs. That should make it Production legal on any CZ.
  20. Even worse...it is a very well made and thought-out sadistic thing that's gonna make you feel dirty. Reminded me of The Cube a little.
