All my guns are tackdrivers. It's me that can't hit the broad side of the barn!!!

I still have not found any in quantity so I picked up 24lb of 748. Hope it works well with the 69gr sierras. I hated to switch but I had to have some powder!!! Now on to the SRP search. My reloading manual shows a max load of 24.5 with the 748. I have read a lot of posts that show 25gr of 748 as being a great load for the 69gr bullets. Does anyone have any recent experience with 748 that could or would share some load data.

Glocks and 1911 type platforms have a different grip angle. The different grip angle on the two guns will have an effect on your hands and arms when in the (correct) firing position. The Glocks seem to work best with the shooters arms almost fully extended which allows the sights to properly align; whereas the 1911/2011 platforms with a less severe grip angle allows the shooters arms and hands to remain in a more neutral position (elbows slightly bent with both wrists cammed slightly forward). What most shooters find when they try to switch from one platform to another is the way the sights either come up during the draw; front sight either high or low or the way the sights track during recoil due to the different arm positions of most shooters depending on which firearm they are using. Either way it takes a while to re-train your muscles to use a different platform. The minor difference in grip angle makes a major difference in the way these two platforms feel to the shooter. Now is the off season. If you are serious about switching platforms start with dryfiring. I hope this helps explain why there is so much difficulty for most shooters to switch between the two platforms.

Individual or double long gun cases?
Robbie Wheaton Jr replied to badchad's topic in Multi-gun Gear & Accessories
Not to drift the thread but has anyone noticed a POI shift on their rifles when carrying/ transporting them in a double case? I have considered getting a double but I have always been concerned about the scope getting bumped causing a shift with the rifle being in a soft case; double or single. Are these cases (Blackhawk, 511 etc) durable enough with adequate padding to prevent a POI shift. My biggest concern having a double case in the back of the car with all my other 3gun crap piled in and something (ammo) falling over on the soft case causing a POI shift while in transit to a big match. Comments? -
No question, Magpul PRS. It has an adjustable cheekpiece and adjustable LOP. The stock just fits like a glove. I will post some pics on Monday.

Thanks a lot. I really appreciate all the positive responses.

I think he has had some prior experience. Sadly you are correct. I refuse to be a victim as long as I can draw a breath!

Anyone that would like to forward my post is more than welcome to do so. I wanted to make a point that complacency even in our homes can get us into trouble. It is a shame that we have to remain diligent with our personal security even in our comfy little homes. People like this are everywhere; looking to get something for nothing. I had a moral responsibility to make a stand and say no! You will not steal from me or anyone else in my neighborhood. I hope this will send a message at least locally to criminals. Hey we need to stay out of that neighborhood. Those honest people have those awful guns and will even use them! The entire neighborhood has came together in response to these guys. A reformed community watch along with a renewed interest in everyone's personal security. The local sherrifs office called me about 8pm this evening to let me know there would be a bond hearing in the morning for both of these guys. The officer asked if I wanted restraining orders placed against them and I said yes. I will keep everyone updated.

Caught two guys breaking into my car about 5am this morning. They already had my GPS, Radar detector, and about 1k of 223 packed into my range cooler along with a bunch of other stuff. I held them at gunpoint with the trusty 1911 while my wife called 911. The Police arrived about 5min later and arrested both the thugs; charged them both with grand theft auto as well as grand larceny, possession of a weapon during the comission of a crime, trespassing, and littering. They threw their empty beer cans on the road to my house that matched the empty beer cans they left in my driveway while they were cleaning out my car. The SRT officers that responded were great. One officer smiled and told them both they could expect to serve at least five years in their county. Both of the theives had priors for both drugs and larceny. I learned some valuable lessons. One; just because you live in a nice neighborhood does not mean that you are immune to people stealing your stuff. If anything you are more of a target for them. Two; lock your doors no matter where you are. I always lock my doors except when I am home. That changed this morning. Three; know where a phone is at all times. My wife had to look all over the house before she finally found one downstairs on the island in the kitchen. Four, always have an accessable firearm and know how to use it. Five; voice commands work! Especially when they are following up the sound of a slide racking! Six; if you keep a garage door opener in your car make sure you lock the interior door to your house. My wife always comes in the house through the garage and she never locks the interior door. These goons could have raised the garage door with the opener and walked right into our house. the door is being replaced today with a steel door and frame along with a deadbolt. The same with our back door.

The Greenville Gun Club only has IDPA matches along with the occasional 3-gun match. SPSA which has USPSA matches on the first and fourth Saturday's is a great place to shoot. If you are up for a little drive, Columbia or Gainesville GA; each are about an hour and a half from Greenville, both shoot on the second Saturday. When are planning on making the trip to Greenville?

Powder with Fastest Velocity using 55 grain .223?
Robbie Wheaton Jr replied to Religious Shooter's topic in Rifle/Shotgun
Tried some 08 M193 through one of my 18" barrels the other day and got a 3386 fps 10 shot average. I cannot even come close to this load with any commercially available powders. The ironic thing is the stuff is scary accurate out of all my 1 in 8 twist barrels. Does anyone know what powder is currently used in 08 manufactured M193? I would like to see how it works with some heavier loads if anyone knows which powder is being used. Thanks. -
I would just like to take a minute and offer a big thank you to everyone that helped to put on such a great local match. Without help this match could not have happened. Thanks again to USMCRET (Mike) you did a great job organizing an excellent match. Thanks again for all you do. I hope to see everyone soon.

Nordic vs. Dave's Metal Works extended tubes
Robbie Wheaton Jr replied to mxpatriot51's topic in Shotgun - Technical
I could not have said it better. Support those that support our sport. Tim at Nordic is great to work with. I also have their Plus 5 tube and clamp on my M2 and could not be happier. It has been flawless is light weight and looks cool. It is a perfect match for a 21" barrel. Install and clip the mag spring to about ten inches past the end of the barrel and forget about it. Enjoy! -
Have you let someone else try shooting your rifle? Try shooting some factory ammunition. Are you using the same bolt and carrier? Have you checked the headspace on the rifle? It sounds like the bolt is causing the rifle to have excessive headspace which is ruining your groups. Another possible issue could be the brake. Are you using the same brake on the new barrel? Try shooting the rifle without the brake if it headspaces ok. Did you install the barrel? One other possible issue could be the barrel or the handguard/ free float tube has been installed incorrectly causing slight movement. PM me if you need more help.

Heavy bullet + Short barrel = Not worth it
Robbie Wheaton Jr replied to fastshooter03's topic in Rifle/Shotgun
18" barrel 1 in 8 twist 69 gr SMK 25.5 grains Varget gives an average of 2856 for 10 shots. SD of three and an extreme spread of about 12 FPS. The load is a laser out of every gun I have shot it in. -
Bolt-on Plunger Tube 1911 - Good Idea?
Robbie Wheaton Jr replied to HarryO45's topic in General Gunsmithing
Save your money for bullets. You do not need to replace the stake on plunger tube. The dual staked locations, if done correctly will last the lifetime of the firearm. -
I have to disagree. I used the illumination on all but one stage at the Carolina Tactical Invitational a couple of weeks ago. The illumination worked perfectly on every stage when used. The only time I have seen the illumination wash out is if I point the scope at the sky during a really bright day. I don't usually shoot at the sky so no issue here. I have not looked through anyone elses scope to see if the illumination is as bright as mine. I would recommend getting the illumination. There are many stages when it is really useful, plus you can always shoot it occuluded for close range hoser stages.
