  1. I ordered it on 8/16/15 from SWFA. Multiple promise dates, finally cancelled the order on 10/5/15. I then came close to ordering a T2, but with my astigmatism that still didn't make me feel all warm and fuzzy so my attention turned to a Low Power Variable. Haven't pulled the trigger on anything. There is no rush and I have not found a clear winner to date. The investigation process is fun, but will be glad when it is over and I can spend time on the range learning the reticle and pulling the trigger.
  2. Called Burris today and talked to one of the tech guys. A couple of things for me to consider. The 1-8 is 34mm and I already own an ADM Recon X mount in 30 mm size so the 34 mm size will require a new mount on my part. The Leupold is a 30mm tube. The big revelation is that the optic isn't available for a couple of months. I saw the Burris on Optics Planet and others and thought that it was available now. While he said that the release date was May 16, I fully understand how release dates get pushed back time and time again. Did that with a Trijicon MRO and it was pushed back not once or twice but several times. Not sure that I am up for that roller coaster again.
  3. Thanks for your thoughts Garmil. I did see in another thread where you ordered the Burris 1-8. I know it is a FFP optic, but with the Big circle thought that it would be fine for close work at 1X. Really wish there was some place that I could look through both of these. I know that the Leupold is SFP, but that one is has a simple fast reticle that is daylight bright and love the low weight on that. First choice would be to run a couple of stages with both optics side by side Second would be to actually look at them side by side Third and what I will probably end up is just buying one of the two online and gambling with a $1000 purchase - I hate this option.
  4. After a couple of weeks of research, I think that I am down to two optics. Leupold VX-6 1-6 with the new Firedot 120448 vs a Burris XTR II 1-8 with a circle dot 201018. I've been reading about First focal Plane vs second etc. I'm not going to have different optics for different types of matches. I'm going to buy ONE optic now in this price range and just run it for everything. I would love some votes on which one - price on both is similar. Thanks
  5. I'm curious about the Leupold in the sun as well. I've read that the illumination has a small window for eye placement and it seems to flicker if you move your head slightly. The reason that I'm asking about the Leupold is the price is the least expensive of that bunch and the weight is relatively light. Thanks for your comments.
  6. If you are left handed then the Gen 4 for sure because of the ability to switch the mag release.
  7. I did a search and found a post from 2005 but nothing more recent. I run McAfee and have the standard windows popup blocker enabled, I like to watch gun training videos on you T and am getting sick of watching a long advertisement before a 2 minute video. Any ideas for a free program that won't add malware or other junk on my system? Thanks.
  8. I was in my local hardware store and found Rust-Oleum Painter's Touch 2X Ultra Cover Flat White on sale for $2.61/ can. I bought the primer for the first coat on new steel then the regular Paint + Primer Ultra Cover for touch up. The Ultra Cover says it has two cans worth of paint in a single can. Thanks everyone for the push in the right direction.
  9. This is interesting in that I had another shooter tell me that they prefer primer too. It also brings up a point that the first coat on fresh steel might want one thing and then subsequent coats might need something else.
  10. Thanks for the comments Nik. I did a search and found nothing and knew that there had to be more to the story than buying the cheapest of the cheap. How about finish? I thought that gloss might be too reflective for certain stages outdoors at certain times of the day. Do you guys prefer semi-gloss or flat?
  11. I can hear some of your answers from here: CHEAP! In all seriousness though, do you prefer a particular brand of white spray paint for steel targets? High gloss, semi-gloss, flat - what's your preference? Thanks in advance.
  12. I know that I am a little late to the party but don't you think you need more info to answer that question correctly? First thing that I would ask is, how is your AR chambered? Is it 5.56 or 223 or a 223 match chamber. 223 match chamber, target gun = small base dies sure. A 556 chambered AR, full length is better in that the brass will last longer since it won't be work hardened as much. Just one guys thoughts.
  13. Thanks for the help everyone, much appreciated. Again, I'm a gun guy not a computer guy. Glad that the answer was simple enough. Rick
  14. I've always used Outlook Express and now I have Windows live mail. I want to create a group of people to whom I can email a monthly newsletter. I would like this group of contacts to be seperate from my other contacts. Is there a simple way for a non computer guy to set that up? A link with directions would be cool. I'm not finding much and I'm just not figuring it out. Maybe the version that came with my computer doesn't allow this option and I need an upgraded program to allow this to happen?
  15. Just about ready to pull the trigger on a Kodak Playsport ZX3 when I see Kodak, JUST released the new ZX5. The big improvements as I see them are that it has longer battery life (2 plus hours), a macro mode, shockproof (5 foot drop), dustproof and has a better screen than the previous model.
  16. I came here looking for advice on a camera and saw this thread. One question, is 30 frame per second enough to see good detail for training like the fine points of doing a reload or foot placement during movement? I see where some have 60 fps at 720p but only 30 fps at 1080p. I would like one of the little pocket cameras. I subscribe to Consumer Reports and their latest ratings on mini cams has the following as the top 3 listed: JVC Picsio GC-FM2 with a total score of 54, number one rated Kodak PlaySport Zx3 with a total score of 54 number two Sony bloggie MHS-CM5 with a total score of 53 number three. Now they don't test every camera made so take the above information for what it is worth. I did notice that Sam's club does carry the Kodak Play sport and I also fish as a serious hobby so the waterproof rating on that camera is nice and it is only one point behind the number one rated camera, under $120.
  17. I have a Dillion Progressive press, I buy and shoot factory ammo in 9 mm. The latest flavor is UMC 115 grain for $49 for 250 rounds from Gander Mtn. It's on sale locally right now until April 2. I have some wonderful 147 grain Zero JHPs and Vit N320, but the truth is to shoot that isn't that much cheaper than making my own. The big deal with home rolling for me, in that I can make what I want, how I want it. I'm lazy these days. In 2006 I shot 15000 rounds that season, I was able to get Blazer ammo delivered to my door for $105/K from Natchez. Oh to think about the good old days again. Rick
  18. I looked through the long pinned thread on timers. I'm looking for a friend who wants a training aid and not just something to run matches with so something that does par times is a must. Anyone know of any good deals anywhere on a timer? I checked Brian's store and saw no timers for sale here, so am interested in any deals on a Pact MKIV, Pocket Pro II or a CED 7000. Those are timers that I think will work for the needs at hand. Always trying to save a dime here and there, so a shove in the right direction would be appreciated. Rick
  19. Everyone has a bad day once in a while. I remember shooting the same score as our State Champion ONCE. He shot like crap and I shot OK that day. People earn their rankings. Don't worry so much about others and focus on your own abilities and you will make progress quicker. Note, I like these old threads, I get notified still and it makes me want to participate more. Shooting is shooting, just go shoot. The USPSA VS IDPA thing is like the Packers and the Bears, there will always be conflict between the two because they are competing sports. Shoot them both but we all know which one is better, the PACKERS of course.
  20. Did he ever get another website up and running. I know that Brian sells the book but was looking for Steve's sight and my old link doesn't work any longer? Rick
  21. Is there anything that you can add to my inquiry? Did they give any specific information about models used?
  22. Thanks for the info. I don't have that issue, can I bother you to post the numbers of guns used for the following 4 makes: Glock:17 +34s XD M&P CZ Again, just interested in the production guns. I just listed the model 17 and 34 because those are the two most often shot in production. It's not reasonable to include the 22 and 35s in that number. I'm not comparing Smith vs Glock or Springfield but again just their product models. Thanks for you help. I would really appreciate the help if it isn't too much bother. Rick
  23. Thanks Flex, that was useful. Anyone know what issue of Front Sight the Survey was published in for 2009? I might just call USPSA and see if I can get the information somehow.
  24. Thanks Flex for the response. I'm specifically looking at the production guns. I want to know which guns are the most popular in Production and the quanity of them used at the nationals. For IDPA I found these: IDPA - 2009 http://www.idpa.com/tj.asp?ID=252 IDPA - 2007 http://www.idpa.com/tj.asp?ID=173 You see where there were 136 Glocks not all used in production but there were 71 model 34s used. Compared to 6 XDs if I combine the reg XD and the tactical. The M&P faired slightly better at 39 9mm. I suspect that Glock still dominates but was interested in the ratio. Other contenders that would be interesting to see would be the CZ line of pistols as well. Again, interested in numbers of guns used in Production Only. Thanks. If it's easy to find and to post the top 5 that would be sufficient. Appreciate your help.
  25. Anyone have a public link were I can see the Equipment survey for nationals? Particularly interested in Production guns used. Thank you. Rick
