    Glock 35

New Glock 35 owner here. As others have said before, the stock adjustable sight on the G35 sucks lollipops. I have a Dawson 0.130" fiber-optic front sight and a Dawson target rear on mine, and that would be my recommendation for a replacement adjustable sight. The 17-round magazine that the Glock website refers to is probably the standard 15-rounder with the Glock factory +2 floorplate on it. Not much use for USPSA competition, IMO. If you plan on shooting Limited, you'll want some 15-round magazines with Dawson or Arredondo extended floorplates, which will give you 20+1 capacity. If you're planning on doing Production, just get a bunch of factory 15s. My competition magazines are factory fifteens with Dawson +5 extensions and IMSI springs. They work well and are not terribly expensive ($20 for the magazine, $30 for the extension, I think I paid $6 for the spring.) The trigger - well, I did a $0.25 polishing job, and dropped in a reduced power striker spring. It's quite shootable, but I'm planning on sending my next one off to Vanek. A 1.5# trigger on a Glock - I just can't resist. - Chris
  2. Just bought one. Will report in. - Chris
  3. Tough one to follow, Eric! Whew. I had a good one a few years ago during a mountian bike race in the backwoods of northern Ohio. Hit an erosion barrier at the top of a downhill section, locked up my front brake, and went ass-over-teakettle off the trail, did a couple sommersaults down the hill, then got knocked silly when my none-to-lightweight mountain bike landed on me. Jesuscristo, that hurt - I found out the day after the race that I had cracked my shoulder blade where the bike hit me. I mostly ride a road bike now... - Chris
  4. I'm one of the defenders of the FTDR - it makes perfect sense considering the stated intention of IDPA as a competition. Where the FTDR rule seems to break down is when the RO applies it in an arbitrary and capricious manner. Problem is, if the RO is bound and determined to be a dick, taking away the FTDR won't do any good - there are still plenty of ways for him to spoil your day. Anyhow, if the FTDR went away... - Allowing multiple procedurals for the same violation is a good idea, and doing this means you don't have to kick up the procedural penalty. I'm ambivelant about the idea of increasing the penalty for hitting a no-shoot. - Expand the list of match DQs for unsportsmanlike conduct to include round dumping, ghost loading, and the like. - Kind of off to one side, but I would eliminate the per-target FTN penaly and add a single 20sec penalty for leaving an FTN on the stage. - Chris
  5. Oh no you don't...if anyone is going to destroy this reciever, I'm gonna do it! Seriously though, thanks - I do appreicate the advice. I'll let you know how it works out. - Chris
  6. Hmmm. I tried tapping the safety out with no luck. It's entirely possible that I screwed up doing the assembly* - are there any other tricks for pulling the safety out of there? - Chris * - If so, then I retract my previous statement...
  7. Are the SR-25 mags available? Yes. They run $80-100 apiece. Are they in current production? I think that they are, but I'm not sure how many are being offered for civvie sales. Will DPMS be making 20-round mags for the Panther? According to DPMS, yes. Open question as to when they will hit the market. - Chris
  8. The site itself can't be any funnier than reading this thread and wondering what the hell is going on. - Chris
  9. *sputter, sputter*I stopped short of offering specific suggestions, being fairly new to the sport and likely unqualified to have an opinion. But since you asked... I'd drop the tactical reload. Obvious reasons. I'd eliminate the holster list, and replace it ith a blanket prohibition on race-type holsters. I'd also allow pocket holsters for BUG matches - can't think of a reason not to. I'd keep the FTDR. My biggest complaint about IDPA is the lack of responsiveness of the HQ. Unfortunately, I don't know if there's a simple rule change that can fix this problem. - Chris
  10. I'd like the BCC-IWLA range that I shoot at to open up a couple of 50-yard practical bays. I'd like a MGM Bianchi plate rack to go with the above. I'd like to have a shall-issue CCW law pass in MD. Oh, and a Tubb 2000T in 6.5-'08 with a Horus-reticuled U.S. Optics SN-3 wouldn't go amiss, either. - Chris
  11. First off, I shoot both IDPA and IPSC, and enjoy the heck out of both. That said, I agree with the previous posters - most of the rule changes proposed in this thread would make it too much like "IPSC-lite." The reason that I shoot IDPA is that it is different from IPSC - if it became more similar I would probably give it up. - Chris
  12. Yep. You've got a neighbor who set up a wireless network with no security and the default channel and SSID. Enjoy it until he notices and locks you out, then buy a wireless access point and set up your own. XP Home cannot do domain networking - workgroups only. Fine if you're only setting up little home networks, but in an office environment, no good. - Chris
  13. Limited. I could probably shoot Production, too, but I get my fill of ten-round magazines shooting IDPA. I'm not too interested in revolvers, and something about Open just turns me off like a light switch. - Chris
  14. I have five. I like them a lot, but there are a few small design issues that could be improved. For example, once the safety detent is installed, there's no way to get it out short of drilling out the safety. I'd like to put an ambi safety in one of mine, but... Still in all, they're good lowers. - Chris
  15. It probably won't hurt to slop some S-G on the barrel threads. There's a lot of disagreement on the proper goop for AR barrel threads - some people use grease, some (myself included) use anti-seize, some big names in the AR industry glue the barrel nut on with blue Loctite. Some use nothing at all. - Chris
  16. So I got home today to find an unexpected package waiting for me. Opened it up and what do I see, but a plaque from the 2004 VA-MD Sectionals... 1st Place C Limited. Now to be fair, I don't know how many shooters were in C Limited - I may have taken first place in a two-man contest. But on the other hand, I ain't been doing this very long, and I've worked hard at it. I'm pretty happy. Nah, I'm very happy. - Chris
  17. I go through Cratex grinding bobs like a Subterene probe through sand. I love them. Delta grinders are sort of a practical minimum, quality-wise. I have one and like it, but I don't do any real heavy grinding. If you are going to be doing a lot of polishing, then get a Baldor buffer and use it for nothing else. Get a cheap bench grinder for rough/dirty work. If you have the cash for one, I find a belt grinder (like a Wilton Square Wheel) to be all over any disc-type grinder for versatility. My ideal setup would be a Wilton belt grinder with a DC motor, along with an 8" Baldor for buffing/polishing only. - Chris
  18. That was sheer poetry in motion. - Chris
  19. Performance goals - - Stick to my training plan during the off season. - Call my hits with at least 80% reliability (in practice and matches.) - Reliable 1.0sec draw in competition. - Reliable 1.0sec reload in competition. - Run the IDPA classifier in 85 seconds. Competition goals - - Win my division in at least one local USPSA match. - Top 10 at the MD State IDPA Championship. - Top 10 in my division at the Area 8 championships. - Attend at least three major USPSA/3gun matches and shoot to the best of my ability. - Chris
  20. I grind down cheap screwdrivers and put them in a huge pile in my workbench. Files, also. I have files ground down to do a particular bit of fitting on guns that I no longer own... I also have a complete set of the fixed-handle Brownells gunsmithing screwdrivers - highly recommended. My range bag repair kit has a stubby screwdriver handle and a handful of Magna Tips. - Chris
  21. Flexmoney - Done. You'll be pleased to know that I just bought a tuned-up Glock 35 from a guy out in AZ. Should be here just in time to finish the season. Thanks again to everyone for their help. - Chris
  22. Krispy Kreme? Feh. You want good donuts, you go to the Fractured Prune in Ocean City. Those are some serious donuts. - Chris
  23. You can't go wrong with a Pardini SP. For the money, they are the best semi-automatic precision rimfire pistol made. Accurate, reliable, superbly balanced. I've worked on a few IZH-35Ms owned by the shooters in my Bullseye league. Many of them have problems related to poor metallurgy and design. I've also had some horrid experiences with EAAs service department. I can't recommend them. A Ruger MkII is always a good choice. I have an old MkII with a chamber that's been visibly worn to an oval that will group 1" at fifty yards from a sandbag rest, with RWS Target Rifle ammo. - Chris
