  1. You can drive in the dark...you can't shoot in the dark. Schedule it so shooting the match competitively/fair is Paramount, not travel plans.
  2. For me the biggest deference is lock time. You might have the best trigger in the world on your AR but the slow lock time will feel like a old school flint lock when you fire it on a wobbly barricade. George of GA Precision builds some of the most accurate bolt guns AND gassers out there....I have never seen him run a gasser in a competition. Running a gasser at a big tactical match is like running a single stack 1911 in a 3 gun match, yes you can do it, but there are way better options out there.
  3. Can a Sig group 1/2", and do double taps .14 splits on a 10" target at 40 yards if so run it....if not build a DI upper
  4. My SG3 will double on precision shots, with my stock M4 upper, but on my 18" JP LMOS comp upper it will not. It is bump firing, this is a comp trigger that was designed for very low recoil rifles.
  5. You can use any bolt. But without a adjustable gas block, its a waste of $
  6. This, just tell the RO that after your last shot you will raise your hand, and he has to slap the timer and it will record your time. You may loose half a second.
  7. The "bolt back mag out" rule KILLS the effective use of a gasser in a match with the time/cost involved loading match ammo and all the movement is not worth it. Before signing up for a match ask if you can "move on safe" if so go and have a great time. If its a " bolt back mag out" match grow a 3rd hand to help with dropping a mag, pulling the slide back, pressing the bolt hold button, just to walk 3 steps to the next shooting position, and ejecting a match round in the dirt.
  8. Dvor (optics planet)has the scope on sale for $820
  9. Keep in mind, that most PRS shooters/tactical match/bench rest shooters are all about accuracy. When most say their guns shoot 5/8" groups it's 5, 5 shot groups then averaged. (25 shots total). Most everyday shooters state their best one group ever with their rifle as their group size, there is a huge deference. I had a friend that loved his gasser ( at the time he did not own a bolt gun)and placed in the top 20 in some matches and bragged about how great the AR was.....then he shot a bolt gun in a match and placed 3rd, and now constantly places in the top 10. He now calls the gassers ankle weights. My advice buy a nice scope ( bushnell 6-24 with the G2 reticle great for the $) mount it on your AR have fun at matches, and if you like it move the scope to a nice bolt gun and be more competitive.
  10. I have shot both at comps. I shoot a bolt gun a little better than a gasser off of a bench with bipod and bags used with both. The key problem with a gasser during a comp is the lock time, my TRG bolt gun has a super fast lock time and the AR is much slower. On a bench or prone it's not that big of deal, but in improvised shooting positions, wobbly barricades, round hand rails, window ports etc, that make up a huge portion of today's tactical matches your score will suffer. If you are used to shooting three gun or fun shooting at your local range, hitting the FULL SIZED targets at ease and think " man this AR-10 is super accurate! I'm hitting everything I think I'll go to a tactical match!" You will be sadly disappointed when you a required to hit ground hog targets at 615 yards off a hand rail! Some stages require target identification ( for example 16 pictures of faces on a 8"x10" pice of paper at 100 yards) you might be ok with a 16 power, but if you can't find the guy with the "top hat and glasses" you will be wasting your time. I would use at least a 20x In the last 3 big matches there where NO .308 guns shooting, think about that. Most are 6mm or 6.5/.260 or some other wildcat. .223 does not stand a chance. In my opinion your rifle has to engage and hit 10" plates at 800 yards in ALL shooting positions to be competitive at any big match. I would shoot a match with your gasser, have fun learn a bunch, but to be really competitive the bolt gun is the way to go. If you go to a big match and watch the top guys you will see some amazing WTF shots it's really impressive.
  11. You can just bolt a piece of rail on the bottom of your round hand guard near the receiver and it will give you a nice flat spot for MUCH cheaper
  12. My nordic 18" shoots great 1/2" with 69gr SMK's
  13. In cowboy bays I do it works great....then the RO tells me to GET OFF THE RANGE becouse I'm looking for my brass! Mines a 8" and I run subs max MATCH distance I would shoot is 80 yards
  14. Is this barrel for a comp gun? If so why would you want a 14.5"?
  15. "I'm not running a gas gun, ACRs are piston operated. " LOL your ACR is a gas gun...does gas operate the system? Yes "The 60,000 rounds thing was one of the key selling points of the ACR. The barrel and internals are coated and have been tested to go that long without losing accuracy." That's combat effective accuracy...around 4 MOA and they say the barrel is shot out. A WHOLE deferent specification of accuracy than a match grade barrel. You could probably shoot a 5.56 4" group at 100 yard with a barrel with NO rifling left, just like slugs in a smooth bore shotgun.
  16. My Syrac block froze up and it was because the adjustment screw was cracked down the length of it. Call Syrac...their CS was a joke...3 mouse clicks and brownells took it back, it was 10 days new
  17. To me a 3 gun AR is a lightened varmint rifle with a brake. Highly accurate and reliable. The ACR is FAR from that in the accuracy department. I have shot the ACR, and have a TAVOR they are neat rifles (TAVOR is pretty much a bullpup ACR) "Everyone has their opinions on what they like to use and that's good but I'm basing mine off of the fact that I've spent a ridiculous amount of time with both systems. You don't have to love the ACR but I'm not basing it off of looking at posters and playing airsoft. I know it's not ideal right now but from what I've experienced, the base platform is significantly better than the base platform of the AR, and it has potential to do great." I have 6 years in service of this country with the AR, and while i have not been in combat. i have many friends that have many tours under their belt and all the front line combat vets I know of that compete in 3 gun run AR's....their "fighting" rifle is the same platform as their comp rifle, and that is for good reason. When ever threads start like this, with a weapon competing with the AR platform it always boils down to "this is a new system look how clean the bolt is!!!" If that is the only positive of the new system its not worth talking about.
  18. I did the math and gamed it!The RO was very consistent. His range commands were shooters ready, 1, 2, 3, engage, engage, engage, beep, engage, engage. You could get up anytime after the beep with no penalty. You could shoot the prop gun after the first engage. If you got up like I did before the beep you received a 5 second procedural penalty. I watched the squad ahead of us and calculated it took 3-4 seconds from the first engage to the beep. Then it took 4-5 seconds to get up and start shooting. I was shooting at the beep. So I figured I saved 3-5 seconds by taking the penalty. I shot the stage in 55 seconds. I had a 5 second procedural and I took a 10 second miss on the 389 yard target. Total time was 70. Stage winner was 64 or 66 clean. He ran the rifle cleaner than I did but I was cleaner on the pistol. It was a great way to incorporate a stage gun into a match without it bring in the clock but the penalty was too short so it actually did matter in the match time. I love shooting prop guns just not right before I have to run a stage. I just don't get to enjoy them at all when more pressing thing are in my mind. Is like to see a prop gun as a side deal where you had to go shoot it or you got a penalty or something like that. Everyone shoots it so the sponsors happy and we all get to enjoy and savor the experience cause it's not hurried. Jesse, watching the video of stage 8 it looks like you did not engage the 389 yard target...would that be a FTE 15 sec penalty?
