  1. Good to know. I have loaded up some from 4.2 to 4.8 but they are with winchester mspp (all I could find) so I'll find out how they do. If anyone has any other suggestions for a soft load for major let me know. I just keep hearing good things about WST so I'm going to give it a try see how she likes it.
  2. Congrats! My father made that same trip six years ago, hopefully I'll be making that trip one day as well.
  3. Did some tinkering today i can get my oal out to 1.165 does that make my goal any more attainable?
  4. Good to know. I appreciate the help. I really thought WST is what I wanted to go with but it just doesn't seem to be very well suited for my shorter OAL. The recoil is what I'm really most concerned about it’s my wife’s gun so the softer the better.
  5. Good to know thank you for the info. Do you have any load data that would be useful? I'm not necessarily looking for an exact match to my gun, but someone with a similar oal. If someone has data from a 5" barrel i could work with that. This is assuming that they a aren't pushing pressure limits themselves. chrono today 171 pf 60 degrees180 bear creek moly 1.185 oal 5.0 wSt 5inch gun Thank you very much for the info. I'll see if i can stretch my oal a little thanks again.

  7. Sorry for another WST thread I know there is a bunch on here about wst but there seems to be big differences in load data. Shooting a xdm 4.5" loaded with 180gr Moly at OAL of 1.142 I might be able to extend that a little longer. So my question is how much powder am I looking at for a summer load average temp. 90 and fall winter around 50. Obviously I'll start below recommendations and work up but just want to get an idea of where to start. Thanks for all the help everyone.

Thanks guys it was really cool to see it come back from paint after all the work we put in. He just kept saying I'll never forget this.

In 1963 my great grandfather purchased a farmall 450 tractor new. This would be his first tractor he ever bought for the farm. In 1987 he retired from farming auctioning of the tractor leaving the farm to my grandfather. Well in 2010 my grandfather tracked down that very same tractor and began a project. This thanksgiving my grandfather revealed his project to my great grandfather getting him on the tractor for the first time since 1987. It was truly amazing to see a 90 year old man with such joy on his face. His time is winding down as his health is not the greatest but I don't think he'll ever forget this and really brought a tear to everyone’s eyes.
  10. It appears that you have a similar bullet profile to what I loading for my XDM. Have you figured out what your max OAL that you can load is yet? Also what is your crimp at? My load is at 1.132 OAL and a crimp at .420. EDIT: With a crimp at .420 I do have the occasional round that will hang or stick when I drop check them in the barrel. I have yet to have one not function through the gun having said that. What I'm saying is I don’t think your OAL is the issue. You should be short enough as it sits.
  11. If you have a problem with the LSWC I would give black bullets international a try. They make a excelent 200 gr TRN and it seems to feed through anything I put it in and you get the big holes of a SWC. Plus the price is right.
  12. Don't you say that dont do it. I will not be able to get ahold of anything now! All it takes is one post and we'll have a "shortage" and distributors will be jaking their prices up ten fold. NOT AGIAN! Not saying I disagree but lets keep it under raps so we can get ours before everyone else finds out.
  13. At about 5-6 my farther gave me a little 410 cap shotgun. I was young and gullible and he told me it was real so I believed him. It was an excelent opertunity to work on gun saftey without risking the saftey of everyone around me. I believe two hunting seasons later I was told the truth and awarded with my first real firearm a youth .22. So somewhere around 7-8 I was trusted with a firearm of course still under close supervision and with plenty more to learn. As far as pistols go my family never really shot pistols, we always just used guns for hunting so pistols were never really around.
  14. Welcome to the Enos. Your best bet to get loads would be to go over to the 44/45 section on reloading. There is a lot of info there but we'll see if I cant help you out. With plated they will be fairly close to lead but might need to be bumped up a bit. Obviously take your time and watch for pressure but if you start at 4.8 and work up you should be fine. Now my wifes 1911 would take about anything as long as it was loaded at 1.235 or longer. I normally loaded to 1.250 for it and it ran great. Obviously your gun will be different but these are some starting points. Edit: Just noticed you had it placed in the right section if you look around a little in here you'll find a fair amount on 231.
  15. To be honest with you I would say you will be happy with any of them. Springer does theirs through a change in trigger bar, where as Powder River does theirs through striker safety lever and their own trigger. I can’t speak on behalf of rich at canyon creek but I will say he does a great job as well. I think your best bet is to call all three of them and talk to them. They are all three great guys and all stand by their work and you will be happy with any of them.
  16. I don't know how your dads vision is but it has been my expirience the older gentelmen love the big bright fiber optics. Dawson is what I have on both of mine but is a smaller fiber. HiViz seems to gave some rather large and pretty bright sights. I haven't seen anything but good reviews about them. Congrats on your dad getting into it I would say these are probably my favorite new shooters. I'm a pretty young guy and only been shooting about a year but run into these older guys shooting and they are a joy to shoot with. They are just out there to have fun don't have an ego about them and are willing to help with anything they can and will take advice without the attitude seen mostly with my generation.
  17. See my thoughts were more along the lines of a team has an average Hit Factor. That would be their "Par Hit Factor” so every team has its own hit factor and the team closest to their own hit factor or above would be the winner for that match. This would allow any level of shooters to be shooting together and push competitors to do better. As they do, their Par Hit Factor will go up keeping the playing field level. Another thing that I've noticed is if you look at professional sports the most watched, successful ones are team sports. I think if it was properly covered they could get the viewers; just look at American Guns, and Sons and Guns. Like them or hate them there is a reason they are on TV. People have a fascination with guns, but also ignorance with them. Look at what the average gun owner has for a source of info, local gun shops. I'm not saying all are bad but there are more than enough stories to show there is a legitimate problem (See Gun Shop Experts). Making this a team sport plus quality TV coverage could make USPSA, IPSC, Steel Challenge, ect. a common house hold name. The best part is we can do all this without sacrificing our safety, and actually putting a better image out there of us gun owners.
  18. I have read some great ideas on here and was glad to see this thread up and going again. There was something that I never did see mentioned but I thought might help out with attendance, cost, and commitment. How about teams? I know it sound complicated but really isn't that far fetched. The teams wouldn't have to be all the same class shooters. It could work on a handicap system. Now where this helps on cost is pretty much everything can be bought in bulk at discounted prices saving money there. This also works for reloading equipment so the price of a press and setup isn't so high when split between 4,5 people. Not to mention a transportation a team of shooters car pooling together saving money on travel expense. Now that you have a group of shooters that can shoot more and really push each other to do better. Where things get better for the clubs mandate each team has one person there for set up and tear down saving the club staff a lot of work. Now I know this would be a lot of changes but it's just an idea something to think about even if it was done at local level I think the competition would be better and really help out the clubs. I apologize for the grammar and spelling I will edit in the morning when I'm not so tired.
  19. Good catch on that. I suppose I should have mentioned that. It can be done but should be done with considerable care is more appropriate.
  20. Sorry couldn't be much more help just sounds like it has to be mag related expecially since thats the only change. But like I said earlier not first time I've been wrong keep up posted on what you find out would be interested to hear what the problem is.
  21. Yes you can polish a barrel fairly easily, but depending on the finish you could have rust issues if not kept lubed. Like I said that depends on the finish. As for how to a dremel with a polishing wheel and polishing compound which can be found at local hardware store. Generally they come in a pack of three with different levels of abrasion. It will take some time and patience.
  22. I changed the springs in my three 16 round mags, none in the 10 rounders. I had been getting occasional failures to lock open on empty, and FTF's once in a while before that, but zero jams. I had loads of trouble yesterday with two 16's and one 10. Chuck Ok my next thought is spring facing the wrong way in your mag. I'm not trying to insult your intelegence by no means, but that would just be easy to fix and fairly easy to put in wrong. Open end of the spring facing the front of the mag is how they should be in. Like I said not trying to be offensive just that would be the simplest other than follower facing wrong way but that would be pretty obvious.
  23. Depenends on what you wan't and how confident you are. If you pick up a drop in it will be a huge improvment but if you wan't it down to the 2 1/2 lb mark you'll need to send it in. I would say you could with some knowledge of how everything works you could probably get down to 3 1/2 lbs by yourself. If your trying to figure which comany to go with just give them all a call they all have a different methods on how the do things but are all great guys and all stand by their work.
