I'm a young guy, but in that short time life has not been easy. I'll try not to drag on here, we'll see how that goes. Most of my early years of life were actually pretty normal and I never went without. However about the time I turned ten I dealt with my first traumatic death. I had a first cousin who was born with a hole in her heart and a list of other problems a mile long. One night we get a phone call to go to the hospital that Courtney was having some problems, when we arrived we found out she had passed in her sleep at the age of three. We all have to deal with death at some point in our lives but rarely do you witness a three year old pass and it was rather destructive on my family. But with time the wounds healed and things were finally getting back to normal. Now I show up from school and wait for my parents to get home and when my dad shows up he explains that my mother is sick and would be in the hospital for a couple days. No big deal she'll be fine, after two weeks we start prying on what is actually wrong. My mother was admitted to a psyc ward from a mental break. As troubling news as this was the cause is what really had the most dramatic effect. My mother from the time she was 10 till 18 was molested by her father. My grandfather who up until that moment I was at there house at least once a week. No one knew including my father till her break down, well the bad news hadn't stopped yet shortly after my father lost his job. In a short couple of months I went from a normal childhood to this and bankruptcy shortly thereafter. For the next four years my mother was in and out if hospitals sometimes checking herself out and disappearing for months at a time. She suffered from bipolar disorder, schizophrenia and extreme depression. So in that time I had a lot of growing up to do since I had to younger sisters to take care of while dad was looking for a job. Eventually dad found a job, mom was released from the hospital and things were looking up. My parents did end up getting a divorce but both are remarried now. I told that long winded story for this, the one thing that really kept me going was the realization I still didn't have it that bad. I knew somewhere in the world there were people still worse off than myself. I had plenty to complain about, but it served no purpose. What it did do was mature me quicker than most of my peers, I graduated high school and went and joined the Marines. But two months before leaving I started dating my now wife. That was not part of the plan, but I'm glad it worked out. I excelled while in the Marines and was promoted quickly and received much praise from my superiors. This is when life was flipped again, I had made a very close friend who really made an impact on me. We lived together for a year before he was promoted and had to move, he had recently stated dating a girl and had fallen head over heals. He was not an emotional guy very reserved in that manner so this was a big deal. Well one night he left his new room to talk to his girlfriend and on his way up another Marine snuck up behind him and bludgeoned him to death. This guy was drunk and on several forms if drugs and decided he wanted to kill someone. So my life that was going perfect has come crumbling down around me again. So after dealing with the funeral, testifying for the trial and watching his family fall apart I swore I would never take anything for granted again. This past November was 4 years since Josh past and I have done my best to make the best if those years. I well never take for granted those calm "boring" times again because in those times there are plenty if little moments that make life awesome. If you van find one it is not a bad option, but the gun industry doesn't have a lot of standard threads. So finding one may be difficult. A thread file is probably a good bet for a diy project, hopefully you can get the threads at least cleaned up enough to run a die on it. Now go price all your tools if you don't have them already and then find a gunsmith and get a price quote. I'm not saying one will be cheaper but probably a good idea to check both options. If you can't get it any gunsmith worth his salt should be able to chase the threads with a lathe. If that doesn't work he should be able to turn down the bad threads down to the minor. So you can keep your length and have fixed threads. Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk

So I'm just trying to put feelers out to get ideas here. How long does it take for clubs in your area to post scores. There is a club in my area that takes on average 2 weeks plus, I know people have lives and I don't push or complain but it frustrates me to no end. I think it's mostly because most places I shoot usually have it posted by the next day if not that night. The club is around two years old and at the beginning had great numbers, but I've seen a decline. The stages don't seem very well put together and for a 4 stage match it takes about four hours. There is actually plenty of help on tear down and set up, which is what usually kills it for a MD but that isn't really a problem here. It just seems as if their in a rut, I still support the match and shoot it every time I can (since it's local) but it's getting harder and harder to go. I think they are content with how things are going, but it has become a sad sight. So how do you encourage a club to do better? Or do you just stop going? I'm up for helping myself, but I also don't want to step on any toes. It's a IDPA club and the only IDPA match I shoot regularly. So I'm not an IDPA member, which brings another point do I have a leg to stand on with my complaints/concerns? I really would like the club to succeed since it is local, but without change I see it being gone in another year. Like I said I'm not going to be that guy who complains and does nothing about it. But if I'm going to help I need to go about it the right way, so that's why I'm reaching out here. Who has dealt with this and how do did you help a club help itself? Seriously? Cobra you have been here since 2008, you haven't been all that active in that time but you still should have figured out that that is not how things work on here. If you disagree with someone that is fine, but there are better ways to convey a message than telling someone to stfu.

Don't know much about the Mec-Gar XD mags I only buy factory but have had that same problem with their M&P mags and it took a lot of work to get them to work. If you need mags Springfield has 30% off sale mags are around $20 just a heads up.

The bottom three on the list have dedicated a lot of time an effort into improving the XDm line. You will not regret a purchase from any of them.

L10, I was in the same boat two years ago. The great thing about L10 you can shoot major pf you get the reload practice much needed by new shooters and with only a couple small mods you're competitive. I put a good trigger in, tungsten guide rod and sights and you're ready to go. People often say it's the Indian not the bow which I agree, but as a new shooter having a gun that you feel competitive with helps the mental game. Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk

Rocky I think this is a fight you won't win. I am also an avid cigar smoker, I've actually probably spent more on cigars than guns in my short life. I am also a former cigarette smoker, having smoked both for a considerable amount of time I will say there is definitely a difference.<br /><br /><br />A cigar is very similar to wine in the since there are very complex flavors that not everyone can appreciate, or will choose to. However the problem with our "hobby" is it does effect other people. In today's society all forms of smoking have been demonized, much like many of us gun owners have. As a society we have a hard time accepting responsibility for our own actions which is why cigarette companies spend millions advertising against themselves, they never made me start smoking that was my own choice. I knew the dangers and I still did it, so I don't blame them. I understand peoples health concerns with smoking, but in all likely ness any second hand smoke will be minimal for most because most of today's shooter smokers are more considerate than that.<br /><br /><br />Then we bring up the children, again instead of taking responsibility for our parenting and informing them if the health hazards with smoking and raising them to know not to smoke we blame the people around us for them smoking. Never mind we let them fry their brains on cell phones and social media sites. I have no problem with a cigar company sponsoring a match, did that mean everyone has to smoke cigars the whole match? No not at all that might mean they put a little money into the sport and give out some good cigars which some here will appreciate. Sorry for the rant but I'm so tired of this mind set that goes with any type of smoking, yet alcohol gets a free pass. And for the record cigarettes don't kill people, people kill themselves with cigarettes. It is a decision they made (including myself) to smoke those cancer sticks.<br />

My plan is to send it off to have it hard chromed. I will be doing the spray on, my plan is to take a standard Caspian slide and frame hard chrome them. I'm going to leave the natural contours of the slide and actually cote them so the top radius and the countered part on the front of the slide as well as some accent pieces are all maroon color. The gun will match a bolt action and AR build that I'm working on for class. Thanks for the help! I'll check APW out.

Ok I know this is going to sound sacrilegious but is it possible to Gunkote, Durakote, Cerakote whatever your spray on of choice hard chrome? I'm working on 1911 build and I want to have it hard chromed then add some color. After watching a couple times I figured they had several squibs followed by a round with powder causing detonation. The detonation caused set back on last round (their bounced back bullet)<br />

I was thinking about it today and I think I'll use a right bcg with left bolt. The right side of the upper will have a slot milled out anyways so that will allow for the gas to purge there. I'm in gunsmithing program down in Mt Carmel, we are very heavy machining based. The first part of course is general repairs then you go to work in machine shop learning general machining skills. Then you go on to build a 1911 brownells comes in for that for a week. After winter break you come back to start working on a AR and bolt action build. These builds include rechambering and rebarrel a bolt action. The AR is an uncountoured barrel blank so you do all of the work involved with that. We also do a finishing including blueing and spray on coating. If you have any questions about the program let me know, I will admit I am a bit biased.
