  1. thegunsource.com had one in stock a couple of days ago, like grabagun.com they are currently out of stock again, but keep en eye there, free shipping.
  2. Im still trying to wrap my head around why you guys would opt for the 22" gun over the 24" gun and then strive to turn it into a 24" gun after you have it. wouldnt it just be cheaper to buy the 24 to begin with? i guess it could just be catering to the sickness that most of us possess......anything works better with a little modification.........
  3. anyone running a sling on their shotguns for the Ironman? I currently dont have one, all the stages i have shot in other matches, you started holding at low ready, or the shotgun was in a barrel or on a table, no slings were needed or required.
  4. yes, carrier is the lifter, seems that diff manufacturers call the same parts diff names. I have referred to it as the lifter several times and depending on who I talk to, they either correct me or ask for clarification, sorry for confusion.
  5. dont have any good pics of the before, i have one that is off angle and doesnt show it real well, so far no after pics, and im not good at posting them, if you like, I can send it directly do you. the back of the carrier was over left, near the trigger guard, and pushed right towards the barrel, if it was resting withough any force on it from the bolt catch, it ran down the entire left side of the loading port, heavily engaging the bolt release bar. When I got done tweaking it every which way, the entire carrier is now centered and just clears the bolt catch bar at rest. I can push the carrier in and it does not touch the bar anymore. truing it up cured the off angle feed problem. Originally, it was so far off, it was leaving a mark from dragging on the inside of the receiver. it also was dragging so hard on the bolt release and the side of the bolt, that it was slowing down the cycling of the gun. I couldnt believe how much snappier the bolt was, when I hit the release. curing the left/right thing seemed to minimize how far the carrier stuck out the receiver also.
  6. after two emails to Mossberg with no response, I was able to look at another Mossberg 930 and compare them side by side, my carrier stuck out the bottom a little further than the SPX model I was comparing to, and the carrier in mine was obviously sitting off to the left, looking at it with the gun loading port up. it was hitting on the bolt release. After playing with the SPX, his didnt touch any part inside the gun. My JM was jamming about every 3rd rd. Frustrated, but at least with a solid direction to go in, when I got home, I tore the carrier out and started tweaking on the arms, moving he carrier to the center of the loading port, it was still brushing the bolt release, but took it outside and shot 40 rds. Initial jam on live rd tossed into the ejection port and hitting the bolt release, but only one and I tried 20 after that, then fired all the shells, various kinds, and not one jam while firing. I only had about 20 min to tinker with it at the time. This morning, spent about and hour fine tuning the carrier position by a series of bends in the carrier arms, now the carrier misses the bolt release, and moves freely. the bolt cycles faster. I tried dozens of manual loads, tossed the rounds into the load port at various angles and could not make it malfunction. shot 75 rds of various types of ammo. the only malfunction I had, was a fail to eject with the previous problem ammo, bulk back winchester universal 7 1/2 1 1/8oz load @ 1200 fps from wally world. it just didnt come out of the chamber completely, all the federals and remington cheap ammo, ran without a hitch. so i went and bought 10 boxes of Remington 1oz, 7 1/2 @ 1290fps and am comfortable that I have corrected the problem.
  7. Mine is still jamming ocassionally, tried some expensive shotshells, less problems, but still hiccupped. looking at the feed ramp area of the chamber, looks like maybe some of it was missed. good angle from 8oclock to about 5 oclock, but pretty square from 4 to 5, thinking about trying to clean that up a little and break the edge and smooth it up some. just hits the bottom of the shell on the bottom of the chamber and catches. Anyone have a good pic of what that area looks like on theirs (that runs good anyhow). my round count is about 140 now.
  8. shot my 22" JM today, box of Winchester wally world 7 1/2 1 1/8 oz, had 3 fail to feed while firing. that stuff would not pick up from bolt back, drop shell in ejection port, hit bolt release to load, would catch the top of front of the shell on the bottom of the chamber. I tried this about 5 times, got 5 failure. I switched to Federal target load 7 1/2 shot 1oz loads and had zero failures except one with the bolt release button after throwing a single in the ejection port. about 40 rds total today, decided to tear it down, clean and oil, try again with some more various types. i didnt expect to have the lighter loads give me less fits. both are the aluminum base. im wondering if , its a crimp thing or the extra shot is widening the mouth of the shell enough to catch? Or if the lifter is not holding the shells high enough? anyone else have similar probs?
  9. Picked up my 22" yesterday, got it from grabagun. all looks great, feels right, shoulders well, I only shot a few rounds, functions fine, they were bulk pack winchesters 7/8 oz 7 1/2 loads. Not enough to tell anything, but so far so good. first rd I loaded though trapped my thumb, made a believer out of me that I either need to change my technique or get added to C-Rums list. My 3gungear saddle is due any day and iill get it on. picked up some cali-comp works 4x4 caddies, need to figure how to set them up, nice quality overall. More reports to come.
  10. i dont have mine yet, but on one of the other posts, one person had some trouble with over lubing the gas piston, might be worth looking into.
  11. Low recoil slugs and buckshot. im about 50/50 on what I have on hand, some older winchester full power, fire breathin stuff and some newer Federal Low Recoil, my luck, the Winchester will shoot POA, and not so much with the softer shooting stuff. Im going to test and whatever shoots best, will be what I buy more of.
  12. I think im going to order the 3gungear side saddle for 930 JM, im still kicking around the extra two by the loading port. Im looking at the GGG sling mounts, the HK style ones, they are not that obtrusive when not using a sling. its not often I have needed a sling for shotgunning, I have a couple already that would work well to attach when I encounter a stage where transitioning from shotty to pistol is acceptable with a sling to save time. Whats the consensus here on slings on shotguns? I sure hope my gun shoots slugs to Point of Aim when I get it. Any comments on the stock recoil pad? is it good, can it be upgraded easily? The Ironman has something listed like bring 125 slugs, plus 25rds of buckshot, case of bird shot. That sounds like a bruise fest to me, so trying to get ahead of the curve. Does anyone make a 5rd buttstock shell carrier other than uncle mikes?
  13. good read on the subject. http://www.specializedarmament.com/content/skins/flat/popup_issue_100.html
  14. got mine ordered finally this morning. too many days of internet surfing, finding one or two in stock and by the time I get the FFL on the ball, they are sold out. Found two this AM on a sight and called my FFL, he was right on it, within a few minutes of hangin up the phone, the status went from 2 in stock to one in stock, then just to "in stock" he called me back two minutes later, said it was on its way, I checked the site again as soon as we hung up, "out of stock" whew, barely made that one. Im stoked, cant wait now. Hope its as good out of the box as the rest here on the sight, I always seem to get the duds when I order stuff.
  15. went to town, checked with my FFL, he called two of his suppliers, they told him to call back in a week or two, nothing in. I got online and checked couldnt find the listing one one of the sights listed above, then got buds up and located, FFL called to order it, guess what, they were closed, damn Kentucky time zone. FFL said he would call Monday morning and order it up, probably be sold out by then.
  16. so whats the name of your FFL's distributor, I will visit my FFL today with that info. What was your price if you dont mind me asking. Sometimes I have to negotiate with my FFL a little.
  17. I have a CR Speed Rig that I love, but am going to shoot the MGM Ironman this year and want a little more holster security while doing that much running around. I have a custom STI with full length dustcover and a brazos slide, I have found that Dawson Precision sells a DOH Bladetech holster for the STI Edge, which should fit my gun, they have some different options on their bladetech's for those guns and I dont know much about them. I think I would like to also get the paddle attachment in case I wanted to go chase jack rabbits around the desert and tote my STI along. I am looking for something that covers the gun completely, so no trigger guard holsters, I already have the CR Speed WSM and like it for regular matches. Looking for opinions on the DOH, or the various options that Dawson has. Thanks.
  18. I had a Casio G-shock that I got as a birthday present in 1985, wore it every day until 2009. Went through several bands over the years, I think it was $60 back then, I think its still close to $60 today. I ran into everything with it. What finally made me quit wearing it, was the plastic casing all around the edge, finally cracked and fell apart after my 3rd superglue fix in 7 or 8 years. The most amazing part was I never put a new battery in it until 2008, thats right, 23 years on the original battery, 10 years of my life was on graveyard, so I used the light to see the time quite a bit. When I went to replace the battery, I could not find a direct replacement, the closest I could find was only about 3/4 the size of the original. I emailed Casio to see if they wanted it when I retired it, but they never replied, so it sits in a drawer. I looked at buying another, but the same model didnt feel like it was the same quality and frankly, I was tired of looking at it. Got a Casio Pathfinder with solar face. Didnt realize it didnt have a stopwatch, which was dissapointing and the internal battery went to crap after 2 years, now the barometer, compass and such wont function properly because of low voltage, so now im in the watch buying mode again.
  19. I thought about the gas rings, but forgot to type them into my last post, thanks for catching that. If the bolt carrier is truly the culprit, then its probably the gas key that is giving you fits. you might try swapping bolts into your old carrier and see if you can eliminate it further, you still dont know if its a bolt/gas ring, or carrier/key issue.
  20. Short stroking is generally always a gas issue. Since you have done quite of bit of swapping parts, I would give your gas system a thorough once over. Make sure the roll pin is in place on the front sight base that holds the gas tube. see if there is evidence of leaking around the pin area. Check the back of the gas tube in the upper receiver, does it look deformed or different than your other two guns tubes? Next check the gas "key" on top of the bolt carrier, is it loose? If its not properly staked, can you tighten the allen head fasteners? If its loose, that would definitely be the problem. is the gas tube or Key blocked by anything? make sure there is no q-tip head or anything like that blocking the path. Aside of that, 90% of all AR feed/cycle problems are mag and ammo related. I have a couple that will run even most junk mags, but one of my AR's is very picky about the mags it likes. Make sure your bolt and carrier are well oiled, especially when new. Run standard carbine action springs and the correct weight buffer if you built it. A lot of people buy buttstock kits that include springs and buffers, most of those buffers and springs are either non-standard stuff or cheap and dont weigh what they are supposed to. Not sure what your skill level is with AR's, but if all of that passes, I would be looking at the port size and hole line-up on the front sight base, the FSB is usually considerably larger than the port hole in the barrel, I would have to look up the port hole size to give you an accurate spec, but anything less than minimim specs, would definitely cause probs. The last AR I put together for a friend that had bought a "bargain" parts assembly, short stroked most every round, I ended up locating the problem after several tests, it ended up having an out of spec FSB, swapped it out and it ran fine.
  21. I see that Dawson Precision sells Bladetechs for STI Edge, which should fit mine, Ill look into it, thanks.
  22. thus the confusing part, looking further into the "rules" I find this, which lists the 140 as standard length, so perhaps just a more secure holster for the 2011 rather than CR Speed and good to go. 5.2 Handgun - Limited and Scoped Tactical Class 5.2.1 Firearms must be of a factory configuration. 5.2.2 Internal modifications are allowed providing they do not alter the original factory configuration of the handgun. 5.2.3 Firearms with custom or factory installed electronic sights, optical sights, extended sights, compensators or barrel porting are NOT allowed in this class. 5.2.4 Magazines used shall not exceed 170 mm OAL (overall length) for single stacks, and shall not exceed 140 mm OAL for staggered magazines.
  23. yeah, thats what I thought I read, just didnt seem right that the rest of the world, Limited division allows up to 140mm mags, which is what I built my 2011 to shoot in, but limited at the ironman seems more like production rules. so since I dont have "standard" length mags, Glock it is I guess.
