  1. I am shoooting a CZ SP-01 in PD and L10 is a CZ 75 SA .40; My Ltd gun is a Canyon Creek XDM .40. Federal definitely ignite when others dont, I have a SA/DA Tanfoglio with a 12# main spring and it ignites regular (non Magum) primers. Thanks All !!! For all the help. Jon
  2. They'll be fine, I would call vendor though maybe you can get a discount on your next order; Joe: How about for a major .40 load making 168PF, same recommendation hold, they'd be okay ?. It was Grafs, they're usually really good. TY Jon
  3. I got a call from one of the bigger supply houses that they had the Federal #100 small pistol primers I had ordered (good price). I okayed the shipment. Today I receive Federal Small Pistol Magnum Primers #200 - this is a mouse power minor load (130PF) for USPSA production - can I use these primers, or should I return them asap. Thanks, Jon
  4. Is there any easier way to change mag release on single action Tanfoglio's? Hello Henning and all: I just ordered the new design mag release button, I have both small and large frame Tanfo’s. Specifically in regard to single action Tanfo’s, is there a way remove the plunger to change the mag release without having to remove the trigger pin and bow ? Thanks, Jon
  5. From another web site: CZ's are definitely my favorite 9mm pistols of all time. They'll never get as big a hearing as they deserve in the U.S., because they were originally viewed as a "commie pistol", but their reputation is still growing steadily as more shooters realize what an undiscovered jewel they are. Colonel Cooper said the CZ 75 was the best DA/SA-type auto-pistol in existence. He also liked that you could carry it cocked and locked, like a 1911, so that you could shoot it entirely in single-action mode if desired.
  6. For Limited only (not Limited 10 or otherwise) All my CZ buddies, put your non electronic hearing protection in, I will say that a 21+1 Canyon Creek built XDM .40 with three mags, with Bomar melt rear sight and Rich's trigger tuned to your preference. Dollar for dollar, my hand passes right over my large frame CZ Tac Sport, my STI Edge, and my other guns that load to a minimum of 20+1, and picks up that Dettelhouser XDM .40 custom, there may be better guns, but no chance to justify the extra $1500 you'll spend, just call Rich if it's a Limited gun - otherwise for L-10, Pd, etc - ot's CZ or stay home. Jon
  7. I don't know about parts, but I can tell you that the up and comer to challenge LPA is Champion Sights, now named KenSight. Dawson is really offering an alternative and darn good but as far as true Bomar style sights, but with the best production control and the art of knowing when not to use aluminum but use tool steel, this company can't be beat, all it takes is to buy a few and spec and measure, clicks are so crisp its scary - I don't work for them, in fact the person that has exclusive rights to distribute a competing sight, is a personal friend of mine (or was). Champion has the potential to become a new standard, They have LPA and other dovetails beyond the Bomar dovetail offerings. TY ! Jon www.championgunsights.com/products.asp
  8. I am glad I asked. Thanks guy's. My extension looks to be about .5" - .75" shorter than the 11-87 pictured. I'll post a picture of the Mossberg tonight. Thanks again ! Jon
  9. I just added a Mossberg 935 SPX to my USPSA / Steel / IDPA shotgun line up (also a Rem 1100 Comp Master and a Benelli/HK M1 S90). Anway, I just installed a Nordic +4 to get my mag tube capacity to 8 (eight) plus one in chamber. The mag tube extension is about 3.5" loger than the Bbl. I am not worried about slugs and buck shot, but will I be okay with say #7 shot so that it won't hit the mag tube, Common sense tells me I am good and this is a dumb question To ask. But I decided I better ask it knowing that guys like Benny Hill, Ben Cooley and other shotgun guru's frequent these pages. Am I in good shape with #7 shot or even #9 shot on this Mossberg. Thanks, Jon
  10. I own 3 STI's and theyre great, but the CZ will have you 30-40% more competitive the day you get it. Advice, dis' the Phantom and just buy a $525 all stell, sa/da non deckocker version from Angus Hobell - Ghost Products or Matt Mink of Automatic Accuracy (a 3 slot, then for $175, have either do a trigger job, install an 85 Combat trigger and competition rear fixed and f/o font sight, and get youself some grip tape. You will have one of, if not the most competitive legal production gun out there (I own 12 tweaked CZ's) - in your going to shoot IDPA too, then get an 85 Combat with the same work. You wont regret it. Jon
  11. Delta: Odds are that you'll eventually shoot steel matches and eventually USPSA (IPSC). The 45acp is out as it limits you to one division in IDPA, is very uncommonats Steel shoots and gives you one division in USPSA (Single Stack). A 9mm is perfect for IDPA SSP and ESP, Steel and USPA Production. But a .40 that you either load or buy both major and minor ammo for is your best bet, minor for IDPA SSP, ESP; steel, and USPSA Production, Major add both USPSA Limited 10, Single Stack and Limited. The HK P30 HK Expert in .40 is sweet, so would be a CZ 75 sa/da in .40 or an CZ 75 SP-01 in .40 with decocker. A Sig is good or excellent, but dont have alot of people smithing them or making parts for them (I have and Elite and X5 All Around). Also dont forget about a Smith & Wesson 5906 series or Bertta PX4 Storm. Match qulity Ammo in .40 both major and minor reloaded is available from Precision Delta, Atlanta Arms, Georgia Arms and Zero at very good prices (relatively speaking). I shot IDPA today, usually shoot USPSA production or L-10 2-3 times a month and shoot steel once a month. The only drawback of a decocker gun is for USPSA L-10, Limited and Single staack, these are SA start divisions, but you'll have to start DA. But remember in a 6 stage club match thats 6-8 DA shots (depending if multiple strings are part of the plan) versus 152-154 Sa shots. Good luck, and don't forget three gun as you mature over time. One final note for the first year, unless your an exception, I would stick wth one discipline like IDPA, then you can add in USPSA aafter a year or so. Steel is the easiest to add in as it doesnt require understanding a complex new set of rules. TY Jkushner1
  12. My apologies, it is an All Around, not a Tactical. That's what I was thinking when I typed it - my mistake. Jon
  13. Sigwolf: I have X5 Tactical (DA with decocker) in .40, are you having any trouble with the gun getting back into battery, especially if you cycle the slide softly by hand ?. Anyway, my gut is, given my experience with this brand and other custom shop type guns is because the gun is shipped with very tight tolerances, you will either have to shoot your way into a well running gun (1,000 + rds) or do what I did (see below), I think your extractors is fine. If the last 1/8" - 1/4" inch of slide return is also sticky, eg, does the slide sometimes needs a nudge into to battery, I would probably do the following (this is what I did w/my .40): - replaced oem recoil spring with a Wolff progressive spring in 16lb for the .40, I'd use no less than a 14# progressive for the 9mm. I very rarely use progressive springs, but do sometimes for break ins. - during break in, use militec or fp-10 oil on rails - clp with detergent. - polished the frame rail with a dremel buffing wool attachment (the yellow/gold is much finer which I used, the red/grey material is much more abrasive, don't use), probably 6-8 passes, very softly on each side's frame (male) rail. That seems to have cured it. Thanks Jon !
  14. A response sent back to Linda: The end of a great legacy, many Shooters inclding myself considered the "Blast" a better match than many if not most Area matches. I hope someone or something occurs that would equate to almost divine intervention to keep the Blast alive ! Linda, thank you for all your years of thankless service. Jon -----Original Message----- From: Linda Chico [mailto:lchico@msn.com] Sent: Wednesday, January 28, 2009 8:57 PM To: Jon Kushner1 Subject: Cancel Summer Blast Match JONATHAN KUSHNER I have received a message from Larry Houck that informed me he has accepted a new job which will involve moving to New Mexico .......................
  15. Fellow Shootists: I am sprucing up my rimfires for steel. Just got my 16.5" bbl Volquartsen 10/22 back and its ready once I zero in my Holosight. My other Rimpincher is a S&W 617 10 shot revolver with 6" Bbl and Seemore Railway up top, I was at a special classifier Match recently in the peoples republic of NJ and a fellow shooter told me that someone either locally or as a limited run made these so I could go to the line, get it done (static 5 plate) and get off the line - the straws are slow and I can see the squad grimaces thru the rear view reflection of my Oakleys. Does anyone know of these, who made them, Ideally, I would like to purchase 5 of them. Thanks i advance for any help ! Jkushner1
  16. My 10/22 is at Volquartsen right now, but basically a Ruger receiver, VQ (Volquartsen) trigger group drop in assembly, VQ bolt, VQ 16.5" graphite tension barrel, Mag Research 'Cuda stock and Holosight up top. Should have it back soon - sent it there as I installed barrel and could not get gun to run right, told them to perform reliability and function check. Been hearing alot of good things about CCI Select Ammo (say vs. Lapua, Eley, Fed, etc) The gun was overly ammo finicky which was one of the reasons she went to Volquartsen. TY Jkushner1
  17. CZ is using Twitter for new releases and clearance sale items: The below link indicates that this gun will make to CZ-USA website in early 2009. It's 9mm, looks to be compact, but more info should be released soon. "https://shop.cz-usa.com/images/site/ice/duty.jpg" Thanks Jkushner11 USPSA # FY 51061
  18. Did a quick scan here, did anyone mention that you should polish the chamber (use a lighter polishing compound and jury rig a caliber specific cleaning rod mop and put into your dremel and take some baby steps w/polishing compound), Extractor is sometimes the culprit, but when you go to Wolff Xtra power and back to factory (btw, in my CZ SP-01, 85 Combat, 75 SA .40) I use a Wolff Xtra Power extractor spring with one coil cut - in my Tanfo's /Stock 9mm/Ltd Small Frame .40 / 1996 DA .40 Witness, I stay ofm on this spring). Both brands, especially CZ can have very tight chamber - so polish them, then chamber brush them when cleaning, always attend to them, alot of your problems will disappear asap. Jon
  19. True testimonial, arrived late (those who know me - I am trying to improve my eta, but didnt do it here), my shooting, eh, but generally safe - AND ITS STILL, BY FAR, MY FAVORITE MATCH OF THE YEAR !! Thanks Larry, Linda, Howard and the entire team - it was great !!!! Jon
  20. Benny Hill, Benny Cooly ? It is the HK version with Tac sights, but is currently 6 + 1 round with 18" bbl. Should I have the recommended gunsmith install longer barrell. Need extended mag tube, etc. Want 8 + 1 cap (Really tired of the finnicky nature of my Rem 1100 Comp Master, which I will sell). Please advice
  21. I have one and love it, it was (and is occasionally still my bed table gun) but lately I have been just taking my carry gun right out of my brief case when I get home with me upstairs, because of a lack of time (HK P2000SK .40). But the Kimber will do you fine, I put a F/O sight up front, and the gun shoots and shoots, and very accurately. The only thing I didnt like occured with 180 PF type home defense ammo, and that was the plastic beavertail delivering a good sting to the hand, again this was Corbon 165 .45 acp. With regular USPSA Major or CDP fodder at 167 PF, I didnt feel the stinging. This gun also stood out in my "limp wrist" test and was superior to most of the other pistols I own, I could not get a limp wrist misfeed no matter how hard I tried. My Vote - Best Bargain !!!! - Not a "cheap gun" Jon
  22. Sorry for the late response, the 4.25" M&P 9mm is shooting Hornady 147gr RN 9mm over 3.5gr TG at 1.15" OAL - they shoot great thu my SPO1 and 85 Combat but as Burwell warned they tumbled and keyhold thru the M&P. My 124's are also Hornady RN's over a lil more TG, they punch clean little symmetrical holes thru the M&P. Now: I have a storm lake installed, I tried the best I could to get the rifling rate, but couldnt find. Hoping the Storm Lake 4.25" has tighter rifling to stabilize the Horndy 147's but havent had a chance to shoot it yet. Also just finshed a Tanfo Elite Stock project and Baby Eagle project, but if I have to grab a gun for a match right now its the SP01 or the M&P, have a pretty trick Sig All around in .40 that just had its trgger done and want to get some trigger time with it minor. But on Match day, the SP01 is choice #1 and the M&P hopefully will remain #2 with the 147's and its new storm lake barrel. Thanks, Jon
  23. OKAY ONE PEICE, THATS POSITIVE IS A START - but there an overly liberal, Anti-Gun organization whoes ownersship is predominantly made up of foreigners who don't necassarily have the USA's best interests in mind. JK
  24. A few things mentioned like the f/o sight are already available - as you know - but you stocking them, would be a major bonus. Tanfo's Tactical rear sight (if name is correct) is an excellent fixed sight. I also have an older model small frame Witness Ltd in .40, I bought thru Eric Grauffell 2-3 yrs ago, from tanfo italy, a decent size ofm magwell, nice ofm metal grips and matching slightly extended base pads for this gun to shoot L-10. I have 3 tanfo's including a Elite Stock in 9mm thats out for its 2nd trigger job with hard sear, new hammer you developed with EGW and over size FP. My other is the Original long slide sport in .40 that I bought from a gun smith, talk about trigger, its amazing - the only Tanfo that ever equaled my CZ's on DA. But the tanfo custom shop isn't what it once was in my personal opinion, inovation yes, craftsmanship ?, so I have not been able to get trigger I can from an SP01 or 85 Combat. Maybe you could work with george on a DA plunger assembly made from hard tool steel. Thanks, jkushneer1 J9n uspsa # fy51061
