  1. Removable base pads 1911 Single Stack Mag have always been hit or miss. Yes, Tripp Cobra, Wilson and a few others but its been inconsistent at best. So for you anal inter stage mag cleaners like here try this for any claiber including: 9mm, 38 Super, 10mm, 40 sw, 45 acp. So if your preparing to shoot provisional Single Stack (Please do, we really need this class, so I am setting up two STI single stacks. one an factory Trojan STI 9mm with STI's new TAS fully adjustable sight, excellent product, (it was a classic Bomar cut STI's std dimensions) and a custom single stack (STI) .40 that runs well - finally, this gun was the ultimate gunsmith nightmare starrting a a caspian frame that literally has been thru 3 total rebuild, and I no doubt have at least $2700 into a guin that should cost about $900-1100 dollars). The below especially applies to any gun with a single stack magwell, but helps mag changes either way. Steps: 1. First buy Metalform removable base mags in your caliber of choice. With these good to excellent mags, the metal base pad are not functional with any sort of mag as permitted by the current Provisional rules (by the way although tungsten guide rods are not permitted both Sprinco and Recoilmaster are legal, strongly prefer Sprinco for any single stack gun, or anything besides a widebody STI for that matter where I prefer a R-master. Order direct from the Metalform Werbsite to spec every component of the mag with great turn around or Brownell's) http://www.metalformmagazines.com/index.html 2. Buy the appropriate number Wilson polycarb base pads in the length you prefer. They will require some removal of material on the front, top shoe so that the vertical protrusion is completely level to the rest of the base pad (Wilsons come with an illustration on this, but exceed what they recommend until the pad flat across the top. Wilson part number 47BN Base Pad, (A) Standard .350" Black (3/pkg) Price: $6.95 3. Install. The existing sub-floorplate that comes standard in the removal base plate metalforms stays, then the slightly modified Wilson basepad slides over it and the detent fits and aligns to lock the base pad in place. Just throw a metal or plastic punch of proper size in your bags to aid quick cleaning. Thanks, Jon
  2. Okay .45 acp is out for me, of the 15 1911's I have only one left in .45 and its Sig GSR - tac rail not allowed. I have a steel/pin gun in .45 with optics. I also load a 155 gr .45 acp swc that barely makes minor for static steel (8lb recoil sping). Now since the mag can't protrude, 9mm is eliminated, somebody can make some $$ here with 10 rd flush fit 9mm s/s mags. So its either wilson 10 rd 38 super mags in one of my two colt 38 supers, both have magwells, one was built in 1998 "Colt Custom" and one 1953 pre-series 70 but all revamped - guess which one shoots better. Anyway, I have a an STI trojan s/s in 9mm but again limited to 9 round (plus one to start) or 8 rds .40 major out of an STI s/s custom with flush fits - I'm going major (200 grain Zero TC's with 4.9 grains of WSF not WST makes about 168 PF). load em a litttle long and along with the Sprinco Rod, the gun shoots soft, Sprinco and Recoilmaster are legal in Classic S/S, but not Tungsten ?. For the record, my choice of mags that fit flush for 9mm and .40 are the Metalform removable base pad (anal mag cleaner) and flat steel follower models - I always get lockback from them, even with the Trojan and have the little slide on shoe for each mag also from Metalform which is soft on the hand (not the boot, that thing is huge) These mags run 100% for me, going limited 10, I have the Cobra Tripp .40 10 rounders, great mag but not allowed in C/C Class. TY Jon
  3. Just rec'd this opinion from Mr Amidon on whether Sprinco or Recoilmaster are legal for Production: Sprinco Recoil Reducing Guide Rods and Recoilmaster are Legal for Production ! Plese see the dialog below and response from John Amidon at the USPSA From: John Amidon [mailto:jamidon1@twcny.rr.com] Sent: Thursday, March 09, 2006 10:12 PM To: Jon Kushner Subject: Re: Question asked on USPSA Forum - Rules section, Vince Pinto recommended sending to you. Hi Jon, The rules do not address internal parts, just external, which have to be OFM, there is a weight restriction on the Production guns of not more than 2 oz over mfg listed weight, you are allowed action work to enhance reliability, this could include a different guide rod. Regards, John Amidon

Mr. Amidon – please see below. This mainly just a question in that I truly don’t know that I can can shoot faster or better with a Sprinco or recoilmaster guide rod, but have them for my Pd division CZ 85’s: USPSA Forums > Rules Discussions > Production Division - Guide Rod Question Posted by: jkushner11 Feb 27 2006, 10:52 AM Gentlmen: I know these are completely different divisions, but John A. indicated in a response to a letter from a member that although Tungsten would not be legal in Classic S/S, a Recoilmaster or a Sprinco would be. My question, is now jumping to Pd, where I spend most of my time, I have operated under the assumption that the OFM guide rod or a factory manufactured alternative (also OFM) are the only legal choices for Production. Would a Sprinco or a Recoilmaster have any chance of being legal in PD ? Thanks,. Jkushner11 Posted by: Vince Pinto Feb 28 2006, 10:18 AM Hi there, I really think you should pose this question directly to John Amidon on jamidon1@twcny.rr.com, because the rules do not specifically cover guide rods.
  5. *Thanks George - See you in April, probably before. Also, Max, Jr emailed me back that is was fine to bring a PD gun to the Course.

  7. Emailed with Angus Hobdell of CZ-USA, he said he and Sevigny were battling it out in Production. He said he was talking to a Columbian shooter, reloading is Illegal there. He also said that Panama is expensive, $80.00 for 1,000 fed primers and a used Glock costs about $3,000.00. They are shooting then tearing down six stages per day, which allows no shooter to reshoot the same stage, he thought that was interesting. Anyway, does anyone have the current overall standings by class ? TY ! Jkushner1
  8. Kyle: Yeah - I'll keep the comments narrow and really along the line of reporting progress with respect to the donation. We'll worry about accounting later and limit color commentary to nil. Thanks, jkushner1
  9. He is Someone who regularly shoots Area 8. And the idea of this sort of thing creating some precedence also plays into it. Regardless, I am only the messenger, but know this person very well. I have seen him do similar things on more than one occasion. Thanks, jkushner1
  10. I' assuming that the lovely recent State Law changes that were made adminstratively yet are an outright constitiutional violation (2nd Amendment) are NOT the cause of the matches demise. And assuming that Money might help get a willing club and Area Director to move forward with 06 Area 8 Match, see the following: I know an induvidual who doesnt joke around, and he has promised me that if Old Bridge and Area 8 can come to terms - he will contribute $2,000.00 immediately no strings attached. Although not a condition whatsoever, he does challenge other shooters who have available funds to join the cause, if the almighty $$ was at all involved in the matches cancellation. The money is there, it can be budgeted as "available cash" specific to the match if the same can be ressurected. Thanks, Jkushner1
  11. Good luck John: You might want to consider sending the gun to Jim Anglin for a Trigger job ($125-150). He'll remove the FP safety as Bob Hunter prefers not to. But Jim does the best triggers out there, 2.75 break plus shorter reset. He is not the softest hand, he doesnt baby a gun. If you want that, go to Bob Hunter - each of these guys did my two 18.9 LDA Ltd's. I also own a Tac Four and the P16-40 as mentioned. These are good guns, IPSC guys like to dislike them, but Glockers like to dislike CZ's (and I have a worked G-35). Btw, I lve in the gun freindly state of PA, I just bought a Kahr CW-9 for carry in 9mm, sweet. I also like Kel-tec alot. But I have a little of everything including 15 1911's Take care - Anglin and Hunter can both be found via search on Enos.com Take care.
  12. Welcome John ! Guys am I missing something, its briefly mentioned but John is buying P16-40, great gun, especially the new limited edition Todd Jarret 16-40. But the 16-40 is Para's SA high cap .40 sw, he can shoot minor but it won't be in Production, John you are buying a wide body single action 1911 Limited gun - Production guns must be DA/SA or DAO, etc. You should load to major 165 PF and get some high caps (should be able to get close to 20 rounds .40) and shoot limited. Plus in Limited you can checker to your hearts content. Good luck, I have a 16.40 that is worked pretty good, its a great shooter, runs as good as my STI Edge any day of the week (once a match grade barrel bushing was fit by a good 'smith). But then one day, I picked up a CZ (at that time I was shooting a pair of Para LDA 18.9 9mm's which ARE legal in PD) and havent touched a 1911 since. But thats just me - and I aint never going back, even got me da big CZ for Limited (both my original IPSC and new Tac Sport both in .40). Have fun - I like the guys at Para, they truly try to help when they can. Good to Great Para smiths include, Jim Anglin, Hunter Customs, etc. Take care, Jon
  13. SRT: Sounds like you have an older Tanfo Long Slide Sport (probably 1992-ish), a world class gun that basically was the cause of the P-9 craze in the early days. I am a 100% CZ person, oh yeah, I own 1911's and plastic guns but for competition its all CZ for me - with Matt and Angus out there to help you can't go wrong. Your gun is whats referred to as a small frame tanfo, won't take the hi-cap .40 mags that the "stock" uses. When these guns are dialed in, you will love yours. Here is the Problem, EAA, they really, truly stink, they have no commitment to IPSC or bringing the true Tanfo line into the states. I have your gun as well as a Tanfo IPSC Ltd an SA version of the same gun, theres no hope for more than maybe 13 rounds .40, but your okay in production. Go to the Tanfo Italtian web site, choose english, and go to parts, they have anything you need listed from sights to magwells to triggers. Pick what you want, they make a great fixed rear sight, which is what I would get If I competed with mine, then you have to email Eric Grauffel - he is a great guy, but the euro conversion rate is not good for us in the US of A. But Eric is your guy for any part from the true tanfoglio web site. Try and stay away from EAA, they are not committed to the sport like Tanfo is in Europeand CZ is in Europe and the USA. Final note, Beretta rubber base pads fits the small framee mags perfectly, problem is they aint Pd legal. Great gun but limited support. Thanks, Jon
  14. Can someone help - I want to shoot it - is it this Friday night ?? Jkushner1
  15. After two years of this, a lot of Reading (Steve A, Brian E, Saul K, all Burkett DVD Media) and a good amount of dryfire practice, I am finally starting to decipher what I need to do (mainly in production 11/10/10/10....) averaging around 10 minutes per stage. I can say that yesterdays match was the first ever where I saw one or two time saving tactics on 6 of the 7 stages we shot. For me as a C shooter the savings were closer probably to 5-10 seconds on some of the stages (not like an A/M or GM where .3 seconds is a huge gain). If IDPA is checkers, IPSC is chess - We need the time, and you will too once the bug bites you.
  16. The X-5 is so single action its rediculous. I've heard there having there share of accuracy problems with that gun - good ergos, big price.
  17. Todd: Any word on Angus' performance - where did he end up. Does he shoot iron sight or his champ at steel events. Just got my new TS .40 from Angus for Limited to compliment my ST IPSC. Angus put on a comp hammer, an alloy trogger, although sweet, the compositie trigger always flexed a little too much for me and a fiber optic front sight. CZ's OFM new fixed rear is the Sh#%t. (I'm done for a while - I have two AH built 85 Combats for production and now the two ST/TS's for limited - I dont compete in open). Thanks, Jon
  18. Just rec'd my new CZ 75 TS .40 to compliment my CZ 75 ST IPSC .40 from Angus Hobdell. Angus tweaked her for me installing the lighter Comp Hammer, Alloy Trigger and Fiber Optic Front Sight (a couple notes - the ofm walnut grips are thinner profile than those that came with the ST IPSC, TS Mag capacity, although the same basic tube as the older ST IPSC 16 round mags, holds 17 rounds via a different spring coil and slightly extended base pad. My question is this. Is it really relevant or damtaically superior for a C shooter trying to make B to have 18-20 rds capacity. I have the Taylor +2 base pads on my ST IPSC 16 Rd mags making 18 round but had to dremel the OFM magwell significatly. I don't want to do that to the new TS. So I'm going out with 17+1 and will try to make "B". I know 1 round mag capacity may account for 1% of what it will take for me to be classified "B" in limited. Things like scoring (a novel concept), accuracy, splits, and target transition and strategy are what will count in my opinion. I guess I have answered alot of my own question, really just wanted to see if any viewer really felt that extra round or two was critical. Thanks, Jon
  19. I totally disagree. And those of you who know me know I shoot CZ's so there is an obvious bias. But this gamesmanship at it best. Adam was still shooting the match .... thats where I have a problem. I don't know if a protest would have been invalid if filed after Adam finished, and if such is the case, then, I guess I understand. But if Julie could have waited for Adam to finish the match, approach him and do the same, politely as I'm sure she did, thats the way she should have proceeded. Think about it, these are competitors operating at the highest possible level, you approach a guy who is going to win the most important match of his life, with stages remaining, and ask to shoot photos of his gun, just the subconcious banter of knowing a possible protest is to be filed, even if your as legal as you can possibly be, this action is going to create significant distraction. Looks like the committee determined that Adam's SP-01 was legal, but I don't care about that. Julie interfered with Adam's match by creating a distraction he didnt need. And I also truly believe that if Adam in his heart of hearts knew his gun was 110% production legal, that an unnecassary distraction was created that was NOT necessary. Julie should have waited for Adam to finish his match. We are supposed to be a competitive brotherhood/sisterhood where we compete fairly, honestly and as friends. In my sole opinion, this was either intentional gamesmanship or unintentional gamesmanship - either way it was wrong and handled improperly. There will be residual animosity here that will take a long time to heal. I think much less of it could have been created had Julie waited. I am not going anywhere near the Seveigny/Glock connection on this topic, I am commenting solely on Julie's timing. Even the Zen master who makes available this beautiful forum for all to air opinion knows what importance concentration plays at this level of competition and that distraction is possibly a shooters biggest enemy. How could anyone honestly state that this didnt create a distraction for Adam. In closing, if her protest would have been negated by waiting until Adam had finished, then I think the rules need to change, if not, I have to go on record as being very, very dissappointed with the choice of timing. It looks like Adam won Pd and it seems that his gun was legal - A testimonial to Adam's focus and skill - congrats Adam !!!!!. As a side note, Three of the US's top production shooters shoot CZ's (Angus, Matt and Todd), I was cheering for the americans the whole way. jkushner1
  20. I have been following Sauls reports. The World Shoot Web Site daily score summaries are confusing. They have Israel's Eli Huttner ahead of Eric. They have 3-4 guys in front of Angus Hobdell who I heard was leading Pd. Anyone understand what I'm missing. Does anyone have the latest standings for production - looked like Seveigny was coming on strong. Thanks, Jon
  21. Although I still believe Eric Grauffel will win Open, I have been saying watch out for the Israeli team (ala Eli Huttner). Remember in Israel, the gun is carried like we carry a wallet (or purse for the females). We call it Practical they call it day to day life, except their poppers shoot back. No insult intended to anyone of any nationality. I wanted to shoot IPSC last year when I was there but time didnt permit - The Bul STI clone is a pretty truck rig. Saul Kirsch is no slouch either. JKUSHNER1
  22. Tried to search for this answer first, got bits and pcs, To fit in the box, what are the length limits that I need to adhere to. I have to order some .40 sw STI mags, and I am going on memory that what I need are the 17 round 126mm STI mags, then add Arredondo followers for an extra round. What about the Arredondo Internaiotnal +1 base pad, shorten tune spring. JK
  23. I began in production with a pair of worked Para LDA 18.9's, tried (and still own for GSSF purposes) a Glock 35 and then fell in love with CZ's. I had competed in Limited with a slightly modified CZ ST IPSC (which is in my opinion the best Limited Gun your money can buy - It always ends up in my gun bag when I shoot Limited before my STI Edge or Para P-16 ever get a chance to leave my safe). I own two 9mm twin 85 Combats that Angus built for me and wouldnt shoot anything else in production (uspsa). For me, it all came down to a weak hand/strong hand virginia classifier that I had never conquered without a mike or a NS. I have shot it twice since the first time I cleaned it in decent time with all the holes where they were supposed to be. Go CZ, you'll never go back - and make sure you have Angus or Matt or one of the top CZ guys do your work.
  24. EERW: We meet again (what do you think of CZ Shooters forum ?). I am almost positive, that Angus brought and shot his matched old pair of CZ 75 C's and that Matt that shot his 85 Combat. Angus built both of my 85 Combats, and they are sweet, and you know he left a little more pull and spring for me than the gun that he and Matt built for Matt. I think becuase of the conditional approval subject to General Assembly vote, they didnt want to chance it. Roger left the world of Para LDA's in production for Sig (I was an LDA guy before I met this girl from the Czech Rebpublic, her name was Combat). It seems like Seveigny could have been shooting an revolver, it aint the gun my friends with Dave. This was Angus's year to do it to, just like the coming season form my Phila Eagles. But lets wait for the world shoot. By the way it was nice to see to guys who I shoot with every month place well in Prooduction, Dave Olhasso (5th) and Dave Marques (20th) and Bob Aramityr (30 something) Thanks, Jon
  25. As unofficial reporter to the CZ community, does anyone know where Todd Sindelar ended up ?. Thanks, Jon
