  1. Couple of Smiths on another Forum posted that they have been working with Kensight's owner to produce a "No Mar" Bomar style sight that includes a base that will fit existing dovetails; and along with some minor machine work will be bedded in the top of the slide.

As one who despises fixed sights on a range or competition gun, this is very exciting news IMO!!!!

I have a desire to learn so I would like to take a current 1911 and clean up the trigger and make is slightly lighter.

I am looking for advice on jigs, files, stones.

I am pretty mechanically inclined so I am not afraid to take this job on but I am defiantly looking for anyone's input that has done a trigger job or does this for a living.

Installed the EGW kits in a 2011 and a 1911 along with Colt sear springs.  Ended up with 3# in one and 2 3/4# in the other after sear spring adjustments.  And, I did not have to replace the thumb safety in either pistol!

    Very pleased with the results!

    Hi All,

I'm relatively new to loading with maybe a couple thousand .38 p+ rounds.  I recently switched components to load the large magnum primers in .44mag, but am encountering some primer seating issues.  Using Dillon 650 with Dillon dies, Federal Large Magnum primers, Starline brass (new brass now).

Once every 3-10 rounds, when I push the lever forward to seat the primer, I feel the primer "catch" and not want to go into the case.  After inadvertently setting off a primer when I pushed too hard in this case, now I go very slowly and if I feel the "catch" I simply remove the case to avoid that happening.  Normally when I remove the case the primer hasn't entered at all, but one time I saw that it was stuck at an angle going in.

This didn't happen before so any ideas what would cause this?

    Thanks,

    Steve

    Steve:

Take a look at the 3rd page of this document.  This is the alignment tool that Dillon will send you for free.  Their latest set of alignment tools includes a #62167 PRIMER ALIGNMENT TOOL 2 PC and a #13713 ALIGNMENT FIXTURE.

If you take a close look at the procedure on the 3rd page of the pdf, you can get a feel for what is being accomplished.  You may even be able to "eyeball" the primer punch to shellplate orientation  by adjusting the index cam until you receive the Dillon Alignment Tools package.  Definitely worth having on hand!

I am about to say screw it and never load 9mm again.  Here is the deal and photos lets see what we can figure out.

I am currently loading 147 gr Ibjehead coated bullets (but have loaded extreme plated, rainier plated, BBI, and Bayou Coated)  all have had some of the same issue.  With the coated, I scrape the coating off, and with the plated I "ripple" the coating to the essential same effect, leaving muffin top on the case where it meets the bullet.  This is all once fired indoor range brass sorted to keep out the weird internal stepped cases.

    Loading Process on  a 650:

Size and decap using Dillion Carbide Dies,  Turned 1/4 turn past touching the plate to get a little cam over effect and try and decrease the "glock bulge"

Prime and drop powder using dillon powder die.

(I have used extreme bell, no bell, and the perfectly measured 3/thou bell on the case and it does the same on each type of belling)

Seat using a dillon 9mm Seating die

(Again, tried seating deep, and shallow, but typically at the 1.10 length to shoot in my glocks, and PCC)

    Lee Factory Crimp die.

(Set to extreme crimp, proper crimp, and no crimp)  makes no difference.

Now as I load, I will get a full 25-30% muffin top on all rounds.  This is simply unacceptable.

At first I thought it was a bell issue, and therefore adjusted that, then thought it may be a seating issue, and then finally a crimp issue.  I have adjusted all items independent of the any other changes and still get about the same result.

Then I thought I might be "undersizing" the brass, and thus "shoving" the bullet into an area that is too narrow.  I remembered having a lee undersized die, and thought that was my problem, but when I checked the dies, I have the dillon, and must have the lee in the box somewhere.

Any Ideas?  Please help before the 9mm toolhead takes a dive off the end of the boat!!!

in a pickle here looking for reloading data for CAMPRO 147 and N320, need to reload some for tomorrow and my current load seems off and want to make sure I have the right ammo.

    CAMPRO 147 and N320

    Thanks

    Avenida:

Not familiar with the CamPro 147...........however, I was shooting a Montana Gold 147 CMJ on top of 3.6g of N320 with an OAL of 1.142 for a 133.48PF.  Avg for 10 shot group was 908fps.  This was out of both a Glock G17G4 and a G34G4.

    Excellent performance and accuracy!

VV has a ton of reloading data available on their site:

Looking at STI's website they are no longer making the Edge.  I'm glad that I picked up one before they made the change.  Now the only full size (5" barrel) pistol that's setup for Limited (.40) is the DVC-L, which has a list price of $3K.  So no more $2K entry type limited guns from STI.

    Patience.........

According to Pignato, the Edge's replacement will be released at NRA Indy.  The Staccato L.

    Hi,

I just picked up a used SVI infinity and it came with the old style guide rod that you need to use a tool on for field stripping.

Can I run the Dawson toolless guide rod without any fitting?

This pistol has a 5.4 inch traditional bushing barrel.

    Thanks

Call Dawson as they are making a toolless guide rod for the John Wick 3, 5.4" gun:

To follow up, I used a ty-wrap and secured the rotating cradle to the top of the lula.  Grabbed the Dremel and 10 minutes later I'm loading those gen 2's perfectly!

Thanks again for posting the pic and instructions.

My wife has the maglula at an NRA class right now, so can't take a picture at the moment.  Basically, just due to the shape of the STI mags, the part that goes down over the top of the magazine sort of grabs onto it.  You can drop a round in like normal, but the maglula doesn't pop up so you can push back in/down for the next round.  I just Dremeled a bit off on the sides where it goes over the magazine to prevent it from grabbing on.  Still works with my other mags and doesn't give me any fuss with the four STI mags I have anymore.

fbzero and/or anyone else with maglula mods:

Was using the uplula at my first range session with the Staccato P 9mm, and was experiencing minor issues.  Like yours, the loader didn't want to "pop up" off the top of the magazine.  126's were easier (to load) than 140's as the 140's also wanted to pull back out the last round I inserted in.  Most I was inserting were 10 rounds at a time.  Hope all this makes sense......

Would appreciate anyone elaborating on the specific mods to the maglula.  Details would be a plus!

    Thanks again!

  10. My Staccato P is shipping tomorrow with the Costa/ Tree Bark grip.  If I change it anytime soon, it will be for the DVC grip.  But I'll spend some time with the Costa before jumping to anything else.

Supposed to ship the stock grip when they're available; but I'm not expecting to swap it anytime soon!

    Are they plastic?

Most companies refer to the grips as "polymer"...........

Brownells description of the older Gen1 grip:  https://www.brownells.com/handgun-parts/grip-parts/grips/2011-modular-grips-prod24672.aspx

Lightweight, one-piece, fiber-reinforced nylon composite grip assembly provides a drop-in fit on all STI 2011 modular frames. Keeps overall pistol weight to an absolute minimum. Checkering on the side panels, front strap, and triggerguard ensures a positive gripping surface when hands get sweaty.

  12. My Son inquired as to when the new Gen2, factory stock grip would be available for his new Staccato-P that came with the Costa/tree bark grip......received email from factory that they were still in "production" and he would send him one as soon as they were available.

Pignato stated recently they decided to make some changes/updates after the feedback they received from SHOT Show.
